QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) Not really. Outside of Rollins, no one else the team was really relevant in 2010 in the bigs...maybe Melky. Also just so happened to be Melky's worst year of his career. Maybe Austin Jackson. Mat Latos was relevant at that time.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) Will there be a separate thread for the draft when it is live on Thursday with the first post being updated for each selection? I will be busy around the time the draft starts and would like to follow along during the end of my work day/commute on the train. Bump

Honestly ok with the Sox going all in over next few months (in the off-season even to try next year). As long as the fallback plan was to rebuild if things look bad starting by trading guys like Eaton, Sale, Quintana, Robertson, whoever else we may acquire and half season rentals of Frazier and Lawrie to restock the farm.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 07:42 PM) FWIW Shuck is probably looking to draw a walk every time he's up to bat Must have taken a page out of Alex Avila's playbook.

If we only get one run out of all of this...

Wow 7 pitches...1 strike thrown.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 07:34 PM) Swung at ball 2. He would have walked by now not swinging.

I miss the Lawrie that took a lot of pitches and had good at bats.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) AND IT'S f***ING WORKING! WELCOME TO CHICAGO, CARLOS GONZALEZ! Ok you definitely fooled me with this post haha
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 06:36 PM) He is scuffling a bit and knee is bothering him, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him go off In a series facing Mat Latos, James Shields, Miguel Gonzalez, I bet he's he's good for at least 2 homers this series.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) If he opts out, he will have been awesome. True so let's hope for it!

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:21 PM) I'm digging online to try and find something right now. They played a soundbite on The Score a few minutes ago where Hahn specifically mentioned receiving compensation if Shields were to opt out. Compensation or compensation pick? There's a difference.
-
I'm completely ok with this as long as Saladino plays every day.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Thats what I thought, but I'd be pretty blown away if Rick said they would get a pick if he opts out and was wrong about that. Admittedly, I haven't seen or heard that quote - just read it here. As I stated above, I think we would receive compensation from the Padres if he opts out. Think that's what he meant.
-
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) Would the Sox receive a draft pick if Shields were to opt? I know the answer with most players who are traded mid-season is no, but is there a loophole in the rules for players with an opt-out? I just assumed the answer would be no, but Hahn specifically saying they'd receive a compensation pick if Shields opts out and leaves has me wondering. There is no way the White Sox don't understand how the compensation rules work, right? That would be a pretty damning indictment on the organization if they don't know a basic rule most people on here are aware of. Maybe they would receive a PTNBL from the Padres or something as compensation since we are trading for 2.5 seasons of Shields and we would only get half a season.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) I am at that life cycle as well, but the bigger change for me was, I don't let the losses bring you down. Winning baseball is fun and watching good teams is fun, but if they aren't, I got plenty of other things to do and enjoy. Kids, wife, and work are clearly the highest priorities and while I'm still passionate about sports, I'm not about to waste my time on something that doesn't entertain me. I figure when the kids get older and interest shifts, I figure I might find myself adjust as PTACT described. When I was a kid, I had all the time and could practically name every single MLB roster and every single move. Now, I still spit out a lot, but not near to the degree (far more competing priorities). Yeah I used to be able to name everyone on every roster lol playing games like MVP Baseball and The Show, watching ESPN and MLBN every day over the years used to help. Now I feel lost doing fantasy baseball.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) I think it does change though. Prior to having a family, the sports world was important, as kids came along it fell back. As the kids got older and move out, there is less going on around the house and the sports world has begun to climb the daily ladder. Man this is how it feels for me. I am 25 and started my career with a really cool company in the past few months downtown and wanting to prove myself. It feels like I'm not as in to the game as I was despite being a huge baseball and Sox fan. It's crazy and sucks how it happens. Guess it's just a part of growing up.

QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Yep. Rooting for one's favorite sports team should be a hobby, and nothing more. Especially if you work, have a spouse, and have kids. Yeah definitely more important s*** to worry about in life. If how the Sox are doing is your biggest worry, you don't have many problems/issues.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) Bingo. The games are entertainment, not life, death, or any of life's other problems. It is an escape from that. If it stresses you out, or angers you for any real period of time, you aren't getting out of it, what you should be getting out of it. Exactly.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 12:04 AM) I watched it then the one after it where Adi Wyner talked more extensively about pitch framing. Lets just say it made me smile when he finished up by saying he didn't think it was as important as other sabermetricians seem to think. I' ve argued many times that its flawed just from a common sense standpoint without a math background. I tend to agree. I think there are too many factors that skew a call to the point where it isn't just on the catcher like many on here try to blame it on our guys during games.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 05:19 PM) I think if you had a database you could run some vlookups off of with salary / war / etc all, there it would work and that includes a list of all players traded and received, etc. I'm not spending the time to do it, but theoritically a solid blog type piece from someone. There is some extent a difference between pre arb and post arb guys and the reality of what should be expected and clearly there is more value in a guy who puts up a higher WAR than two or three guys who equate that same total, but in general, I agree with your previous post. Theortically, best thing the Sox could have done is trade every positional prospect we had drafted over the past 15 years...only upside QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) God I hate that Excel function. I wish it wasn't so useful. I have a finance degree and have worked a finance and now accounting job...I know your pain.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) Honest question - its obvious you have so much hatred for the White Sox - why don't you just give up caring, or find another team to cheer on? Again, honest question - no sport/hobby should make you as miserable as you appear to be towards the Sox, so why spend so much time loathing over it?
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) If that is what those guys "cost", than I'd argue the trade isn't a no brainer since we are paying "what they cost" plus giving up assets. While Tatis is a long-shot, he is still a very talented long-shot for his age and someone we committed valuable international FA resources to and who has received pretty positive early reviews. I don't consider that a nobody. If it was just Johnson, I'd have less to complain about, but Tatis was what this org had to make strides on (actually getting meaningful contributions from its international front and while he was 5 years down the road, it takes a long time to do things like this) and it takes time to build up a system (something we continue to not do). And this is coming from someone who is all for leveraging prospects for trading and filling other needs. And they will sign many other players similar to Tatis in a month.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) I wonder if one of the reason they got Shields is possible trade bait before the deadline. I don't think so but if they did decide to sell he would at least be a cheaper innings eater option than before for a team.
