  1. They were saying on the Score that Matt Holliday has an option likely to be bought out by the cards after this season. I could totally see us signing him to like a 2 year deal to be the DH.
  2. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 05:43 PM) I'm going to root for the Red Sox to fall apart Me too! Would be comical if Yankees pass them in standings.
  3. Not going to be disappointed until I see what they do this winter.
  4. One can argue the Yankees being mediocre this year hurt the Sox this week.
  5. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) Get ready for a few off season tweaks and taking one more run at it in 2017. If they actually found another big bat somewhere, and the old Abreu came back, maybe it works, but otherwise we'll be in this exact same spot a year from now. Castro and Gomez. Book it.
  6. We don't know what they were offered guys. Get off the ledge.
  7. Time to start looking at pieces they can add in the off-season to try and compete next year. Sigh.
  8. Tate to Yankees huh? Hmmmm
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) They all are aware of the cost. A deal could get done as fast as they can say yes. Kudos to the White Sox for not budging. No one should be mad at the Sox if Quintana and Sale aren't moved.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) "We discussed several deals, we were very active, but ultimately, we were not content with the packages we would receive. In all probability, standing pat with our current roster could result in a team that puts up a competitive final two months of the season." -Rick Hahn, later today probably Almost word for word, he will say that.
  11. What a quiet day so far.
  12. One thing to consider is Dombrowski wasn't there when Moncada was signed. He wasn't part of the group that invested $63 million into him. He may be just using that excuse as leverage.
  13. There's gotta be a way to work around the fact they paid $63 million for Moncada. Include Robertson or Melky and be willing to eat some cash?
  14. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) Complication w/Moncada is @RedSox having invested $63 million in bonus and taxes to sign him. Puts him in separate category. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/760129399568101376 QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) You should have listened to me last week. I stated the very same thing. I kind of had a feeling this might be a reason.
  15. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 2m2 minutes ago The Boston #RedSox had late-night talks with the #WhiteSox about Chris Sale. If Sale is moved, #RedSox and #Dodgers are likely destinations. Come oooooon, Dave. Come ooooooon.
  16. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:20 AM) whitesoxdave ‏@barstoolWSD 3m3 minutes ago Chicago, IL Just texted my guy. "It's crazy how quiet it's been... I got nothing" Life is awesome being a White Sox fan, said nobody Maybe his contact just isn't leaking him info today.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:28 AM) If someone claimed Shields off waivers, the Sox wouldn't owe him a dime and still would have about $27 million coming into their bank account from SD. They would take that in a heartbeat. Any trade would require the SD money to move along with Shields. They would likely. But I just don't see a team claiming him for the full amount. I think it's more likely he'd clear waivers and then a team would try to make a deal even though teams also have that option today still.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:08 AM) I don't think people should get their panties in a bunch if guys like Shields and Melky aren't moved today. These are guys, who could be moved next month. Shields would clearly clear waivers as any team that claims him would be on the hook for his entire contract, not just the White Sox portion, and the White Sox would still get paid by SD. Melky is owed a decent sum next season, and it is doubtful a non contending team would claim him. For today, Sale, Q, and Robertson are the guys who if not moved today, aren't going to be moved this season. I don't think sox would just let him go for nothing. I guess there is a chance they could just to receive money from SD. I think a team would consider that though before placing a claim so it's probably a moot point to even talk about.
  19. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 07:56 AM) Think I'd rather have Profar over Gallo.. Not at all impressed with Gallo QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:06 AM) Exactly my feelings. Gallo has a huge bust factor about him. He's only 22 and could turn it around, but MLB results are scary so far. I know people hate on Profar having 3 years of control, but that doesn't mean we couldn't use him. And if they are in a rebuild mode, they, could also deal him in a year or 2. It would just depend on what else comes over here.
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:20 AM) They... Have... Outfield... Depth. This. Nowhere to play him.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 07:47 AM) There isn't much of a difference in quality of hitting, just different styles. And defensively, Melky has actually been the better player by advanced metrics. Yes, Bruce is a couple years younger, but I'm not sure why that matters when both are only under control for one more season and Jay has been the one unable to stay healthy in recent years. The difference is salary is $2M, which is pretty meaningless. Unless you are desperate for power, I would personally take Melky over Bruce, especially if I were an AL team. Agreed 100%.
  22. Hopefully rumors pick up soon! (Sorry to all those who open this thinking there's an update!)
  23. We may even wake up to deals (not necessarily our team). But I remember getting up for work at 3am to go to my retail job when I was in college and just reading rumors most of my shift.
  24. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:45 PM) Man I thought there'd be more action around Quintana at least. Disappointing. There could be. We don't hear everything going on.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) I would be really curious to see what is actually being offered before really judging whether the Sox screwed this up or not. Without knowing what was on the table, it is all assumptions. This. If we don't trade them, we didn't get a good enough haul.
