  1. Can't catch a break. He's the type of guy we should be playing every day for the rest of the year looking at how we're doing right now.
  2. Would that include moving someone like Shields or Gonzalez to the pen? Or since we're not going anywhere, using a 6-man rotation?
  3. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) Might as well find out if he can be a functionable backup. Save yourself several million by having a guy who plays for the minimum. Going rate for veteran backup types is between $2-3 million -- and most are garbage. Yep. Look at the 2 we signed for about that amount haha
  4. Let's keep his son in the clubhouse at all times. No matter how bad it ends up making us look.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 06:22 PM) It has nothing to do with the White Sox cultivating anything. It is about a father and a son. It may just be coincidental he started hitting with authority around the same time his son was arriving. Or maybe not. Maybe it has nothing to do with it. But it wouldn't be the first time a parent struggled with being separated from their child. Did he have his son around last season or in 2014?
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 06:07 PM) In about a week you would probably feel different. No reason to feel differently. At this point, play younger players the remainder of the season to see what you have.
  7. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) Who Levine or Ventura? Both valid questions. Lol I was referring to Robin but I guess Levine works as well.
  8. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) He's gonna make 24 per if he doesn't opt out. He'll get a higher AAV if he opts out. Maybe about the same but definitely more years as well.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) Bruce Levine ‏@MLBBruceLevine 59m59 minutes ago Chicago, IL Ronin Ventura asked if he wants to continue managing . " Lets get through this one first " QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) Haha wow Seriously why does he still have a job.
  10. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 11:57 PM) Well we did get to see a nice April for a change. Yeah that was fun. And then the rest of the season happened haha
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 11:05 PM) That's fine. I'm taking the one World Series win over the multiple good years with no World Series wins. I would rather see and experience that Win than watch the teams be good but never win it. We've seen them win in our lifetimes. I wanna see a run where they are competitive making it fun to watch everyday of every season. Obviously I want them to win the whole thing again, but I just want to see them be good again.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) At least we have a ballpark ranked 29th out of 30 in this week's Yahoo story. (I do realize most people on Soxtalk and Sox fans overall do like the Cell, just sayin). I like the Cell, but it's just so plain looking. I like almost all of the new ones built after better.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) Carlos Gomez is a year removed from being an elite player. I actually think he'd be a great move on a one year deal with an option. Don't see why he'd want an option. I think he'd accept a one year deal in hopes of rebuilding value. Having said that, I think we sign him and also go the cheap route. The Gomez, Castro, Lind prediction is spot on I think.
  14. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 07:18 AM) Sample size. He has barely had a week's worth of at-bats. His minor league track record suggests he is nothing more than back-up catching fodder. With that said, he deserves more at-bats than Navarro. Agreed. Let him play the remaining 2 months.
  15. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 08:12 AM) The batting practice jersey that was given out last night was AWESOME. This was the 3rd shirt/jersey they gave out this year and it was definitely the nicest of the three. I really wanted one but was unable to go. My friend says he would sell me his but it was an XL size. Did they give out different sizes?
  16. I just really don't see them spending on Encarnacion or Reddick or Desmond.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) Navarro is fun like a root canal QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) Dioner Navarro was a hell of a free agent signing Narvaez should literally be playing most of the time the rest of the season.
  18. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 10:04 PM) We needed 2014 Abreu, 2014 Morneau, 2014 Robertson, a good bullpen, and better injury luck. Then we'd have the best record in baseball. Yeah I miss Jackson snagging fly balls in center and Putnam and Petricka are better than what's in the pen now. Avila shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
  19. QUOTE (FT35 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Still not ready to call the Abreu deal a bust. He's been a top-5 1B for 2 years and hit a rut this year (on a team with absolutely no direction). I believe in his ability to bounce back. Even .280/25/100 is a bargain at 6/68. Through this disaster of a year by his standards, he's still on pace for .270/18/87. A hot streak for him could easily put him back into the .280/25/100 conversation--in an off year. I'll take that as a floor any day. He didn't say it was a bust. Just the truth that it's one of the biggest contracts they've given out.
  20. QUOTE (FT35 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) Robertson and cash back to the Yankees for a pair of mid-level prospects. I think this could happen but I'd bet money on the Yankees resigning Chapman. I guess both could happen though.
  21. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) well a few years ago, Stony said Abreu was "far better" than Rizzo, so I don't know what to think. Now, they seem like completely different players.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) K.J. Woods has been a pleasant surprise since we got him. I made a thread about him when we got him. Was a surprising related by the Marlins based on his age and last year's numbers. Guy does K a lot but does also walk a lot.
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) I usually try to go on most bobblehead days and nights but there haven't been as many this year Yeah I kinda feel the giveaways have been worse. But I guess last year we had PK day and the 10 year World Series reunion day (replica ring).
  24. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) Avi has to be one of the most frustrating players in recent Sox memory. You can clearly see that there is talent there. When he gets hot he looks like a potential superstar but when he's cold he does absolutely nothing. He has two months this year with OPSs in the .500's. If he could even manage a .650 OPS during his down stretches he would be a useful player. Hopefully he continues his hot stretch and something clicks for him. Still just barely 25 years old. Since the all star break - .290/.378/.742 The one good thing he has really done is improve his walk rate. It was an anemic 3.9% throughout his minor league career and has improved to a respectable 8.3% this year. Call me crazy but I still have at least some faith left that Avi can become a useful everyday player. While his defense will probably never be good, it has improved each year if defensive stats are to be believed. They might as well play him everyday.
  25. With Dave having an inside source and how ludicrous those offers must have been without any of their top guys, I'd imagine Dave is more correct than Gammons on this one.
