QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:18 AM) Giants get desperate for a starter, trade Susac for Shark. E. Johnson replaces Shark Sox send prospects to Reds for Frazier profit This wouldn't make sense if the Sox want to contend.

QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) San Diego looking to save some money. Kemp plus cash (LAD paying 3+ per year) SD pays additional 8 mill in 2017 and 18 and takes Danks. Danks due 15 million plus next year makes up difference for rest of this year and 2016. Danks could succeed in that ball park. Kemp doesn't really have split differential plays right. Avi platoons at dh with La Roche. Johnson comes up from AAA to take Danks spot. We don't lose any prospects and last years of Kemp may not be pretty but if our cost is 10 per not bad. Last couple years could even be lhp dh after LaRoche gone This is an amazing idea. We unload Danks, let EJ replace him (and he would be better by default), and get Kemp to improve the offense.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) One name I haven't seen mentioned in rumors that make sense for the Sox... Brett Lawrie I wonder if he would be in play? He hits arb next year and has a couple of more years of control til free agency. He's too injury prone for my liking.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) Yep you got it that was exactly what I was saying. This is what's wrong with our society these days I say something innocent and someone jumps down your throat will some racist or prejudice thing. All I was saying is they are similar, they are intense and like to have fun while playing. Never related it to them being Latin but clearly u did. I agree. I didn't mean anything racist by it, I was just pointing it out. You can tell that Abreu, Alexei, Melky all have the same sort of makeup/competitiveness to them. They all happen to be Latin as well, so that's why I pointed it out. I didn't mean it in a bad way.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) I'm sure Sale also wants to win, and would accept an upgrade. This. Like I've said a trillion times, Sale is good enough to pitch to anyone. He might be more comfortable pitching to Flowers, but COULD pitch to anyone.
-
What about the Sox buying low on Julio Teheran? He's a wreck this season, but he's shown flashes of being good in the past and Coop could probably fix him. Not to mention that he's young and cost controlled.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) You are letting their offense influence your judgement of their defense, just like Gold Glove voters. If Soto is OK defensively, Flowers defense shouldn't be described as anything but stellar. How is Flowers stellar defensively? Sure, he might be a good pitch framer, but he's not good at throwing out base stealers, which is important as a catcher IMO.
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) Adding AJ and platooning him with flowers and moving Soto to a DH platoon with LaRoche would be almost as good as adding a top line bat. Wouldn't LaRoche still get most of the AB's in that platoon since he's a lefty?
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) Having Saladino and Sanchez both able to play 2B/SS/3B makes carrying a third catcher realistic. A utility infielder like Bonifacio was more necessary when the roster had Gillaspie and Johnson, who could each only play one IF position. That doesn't even include Beckham who can play all three of those positions too.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) We already have out dirt bag lol. I wonder if he'd clash with eaton. He might, but I think Gomez would get along great with Melky and the rest of the Latin players on the team. They all do those silly shenanigans, and I think Gomez would enjoy it here.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) He is on the market and we have a history of him. Technically he's a great platoon fit with one of our other catchers. He also brings a nice presence with him. I'd say it probably is, but I can't see the Sox just dropping one of Flowers / Soto and I also don't see us carrying 3 catchers (unless they plan on DH'ing Soto a bit in a platoon with LaRoche)? I'd drop Flowers honestly. Soto can hit at the very least and his defense is ok. Flowers isn't particularly good at anything besides being Sale's personal catcher.

So is Pierzynski coming back a realistic move? If so, I'd LOVE IT!

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) This game feels like as close to a guaranteed win as you can get in baseball, we can't afford to blow this. Which means we'll probably lose. -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) People arguing Gomez over CarGo are nuts lol. When healthy CarGo is a superstar. Gomez is not. This is 100% wrong. Coors inflates CarGo's numbers by a lot.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 12:46 AM) Since they're starting on a Thursday, one would guess that's 4 games at Minny. Bad luck for the White Sox here, no Felix Hernandez in a four-gamer. JA Happ vs. Hughes T. Walker (rough last four starts) vs. Milone Montgomery (also rough the last four after dominating) vs. Gibson Iwakuma vs. Pelfrey Yankees FRI-SUN Rodon vs. TBA Danks vs. TBA Samardzija vs. TBA Most likely scenario, Twins split and the White Sox take 2/3. Twins leading by 2. However, with how hot the Yankees are (yes, so are we) and Rodon/Danks both going, anything's possible on the positive or negative side. About the only thing we can predict ahead of time is that Samardzija will go 7+ innings for the 10th or 11th straight time. The starters for the Yankees are Sabathia, Eovaldi, and Nova in that order. The Sox should be able to take the first and third games in the series, while the Yankees take the middle one.

Where would LaRoche go?

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:15 PM) Mets backed out of the trade because of concerns with Gomez's hip. Per Rosenthal I'd still trade for him anyway. Herm Schneider could work wonders on him.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Gomez is a f*** stick. I would rather not have to root for him. He might be, but he's a hell of a player that'd make this team better.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:59 PM) I wouldn't give up Montas and Micah. Why not? He's already an established, solid player that would fit great on this team.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:52 PM) They wouldn't bite. Not even close How is that offer any worse than Wheeler and Flores? If anything, the Mets proposal is more risky since Wheeler is coming off of TJ surgery. I'd give them Avi too if that made them do the deal.
-
Now that the Gomez trade has fallen through, he is still available to anyone on the market. The Brewers have already shown their hand on what they'd need for him. They wanted a young pitcher and an infielder. Why don't the Sox offer Montas, Micah, and a lower level prospect for him? I think the Brewers would be interested. Imagine how good the Sox would be with Gomez behind Eaton? Plus Gomez would be here for 2016 as well. Let's discuss. I think Hahn should try to get him.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:06 PM) 55 runs in 7 games Gotcha. It was just unclear.

Make it 8 tomorrow with Sale! Go Sox! WOOOOOO!
