Home Opener Game Thread! White Sox vs Tigers
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 10:12 AM) This is hysterical. This team isn't supposed to contend, how could it possibly be a bigger trainwreck than the 1991 home opener? Opening a new park. Optimism about winning a division, lose 16-0. I was going to mention that as well. IMO, that is way uglier of a loss than a meh bullpen bullpenning all over itself in a developmental year.

Home Opener Game Thread! White Sox vs Tigers
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 09:33 AM) 1)Yesterday was my 48th Opening Day. I've been to good games, and bad games on Opening Day. Yesterdays loss was easily the ugliest loss on Opening Day that I have attended. The bullpen blowing the game and the terrible defensive play by L. Garcia was really ugly. 2)When Hahn Traded Robertson, Jennings Kahnle and Swarzak last season he left the team with one of the worse bullpens in the history of the team. At best I thought he might improve the bullpen this off season. I think its fair to say that this bullpen has not been improved. 3) I can't help but wonder if the game plan with this team is to have another bad season which will result in another high draft choice and a even lower team payroll. The White Sox are 28th in payroll and it could probably in lower next year. 4) One of my major beefs against Rick Hahn is his signing players who are not any good and paying and wasting millions of dollars on them. LaRoche, Keppinger, Holland and now Soria were all acquired By Hahn. All of them didn't produce and were paid millions of dollars. 5) Attendance. It was certainly cold at the game yesterday and I'm sure it didn't make anybody come to the game as a walkup. Still to only have 33,000 at the home opener is not exactly anything to be happy about. Most Opening Day tickets are usually sold out weeks in advance. This tells me more and more people are not buying into this rebuild. Yesterdays crowd might be the biggest crowd of the year. 6) I see this so called rebuild going on for years. I wish that JR would sell the team. Classic post, water is wet.

Logan Morrison to the Twins
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 06:27 PM) Rick Morrissey has a rather interesting column in todays Sun Times. He thinks this so called rebuild is just another word for tanking. He doesn't buy into this tanking. He thinks its bad for sports in general. I happen to agree with him. I think this White Sox rebuild/tanking is wrong. Essentially yes, they're quite the same. You don't have to like it, but you should accept it since it's year 2 of the process. Whining about daily it isn't going to make it go away any faster either.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 01:17 PM) Because championship teams also plug holes. If it's a three year deal on a reasonable AAV something like 3/33 I'd do it That's an entirely different situation compared to the one that the Sox are currently in. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 03:13 PM) Plug the holes..when you're sure they're the right holes to plug. Treat our franchise like a blown tire right now; you don't just start applying patches to areas that you think look weird, you check for the location of the hole first before you plug it. Exactly.

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 02:11 PM) They need to quit having the webcasts available if they can't get them to work. Quit teasing me with baseball, dammit. I had issues before with the webcast because I didn't have flash player running. I ended up using Internet Explorer and it worked perfectly. Here's today's link.

Micker Adolfo out at least six weeks.
Kevin Powell @kpowell720 1m Hahn says there is no risk of further damage to the elbow. So the hope is he can get reps at the plate while rehabbing injury. James Fegan @JRFegan 1m Yes, this decision is the result of the second opinion. Hahn said the sprain in Adolfo’s UCL has been described as a “pinhole tear,” but that it’s a “very robust ligament”

Micker Adolfo out at least six weeks.
James Fegan @JRFegan now Adolfo did tee work today. Could DH in Cactus League but likely to be in B games James Fegan @JRFegan Adolfo could still have TJ surgery if his injury does not improve with rest. If that happens, Sox will try to have that surgery timed so he is ready for 2019 fully healthy. Hahn estimated the recovery for that at 7-9 months 12:42pm · 25 Feb 2018 · Twitter for iPhone

Micker Adolfo out at least six weeks.
Kevin Powell @kpowell720 now Rick Hahn with an update on Micker Adolfo: He will be used as DH this season. Hope is he won't miss full season of at-bats. Still hasn't ruled out surgery at some point down the road. #WhiteSox Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 53s Micker Adolfo could start season at Winston-Salem as a DH, Hahn says. Surgery still a possibility, tho. Get as many at-bats as possible.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 10:41 AM) This post is off the top of my head... and without checking stats. So take it FWIW. What do we really think our chances of signing Machado are? I think like some of players of past that we will make an EFFORT, but one where we ultimately will fall, very short. I can see JR throwing out like an 8 year, $210mm contract and the Yanks going to 9 years, $270mm and then the Sox turning around and being like, well, we tried!! I really think the chances of Machado signing at like 5-10%. At that point is anybody really confident with an aging Donaldson who, as he loses a step loses his defensive edge and probably his pop a bit. Then you wait for Arenado and hope the Rockies don't resign him and also nobody else does too... I can just see a situation where 2-4 years from now we are sitting around plugging in Mark Teahen like we have at 3B for the past 20 years (save for a few Crede years) I'd be okay signing Moustakas as kind of a Todd Frazier plugging of a hole. It's not going to win you a championship in the long term, but it also eliminates a hole. The goal isn't to plug holes, it's to win championships. If this move won't help accomplish that, then why bother doing it?

Logan Morrison to the Twins
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 03:26 PM) Hate to be negative about this but I still think the White Sox will have a much lower payroll in 2019. Low payroll =more moola for JR and his investors. This so called rebuild is going to be a very cheap rebuild. And I don't think Shields or Avi Garcia will be on the team in 2019. Is it opposite day? This is exactly your shtick.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 11:58 PM) Guys, everything printed says Machado loves NY and will be a Yankee. I think you should forget about him. Hence Moustakas. Sox can get him for 4 years 60 million I bet. 15 million a year. Why not? We might improve a lot even this year cause Davidson could move to DH with Mous at 3B. Our infield actually would be very good as long as Mous is in shape. Before advanced stats went crazy, most folks would suggest Mous had a great great season last year. He has WS experience. I don't see the harm. I won't be doing handstands if we sign him but again, why not? Machado is not coming to the White Sox, geez. There's been no hint of that. If it's all over print why even bother to try? That's a bad mindset to have. The Sox shouldn't "settle" for Mous now before even making an attempt/effort at one of the big guys in the coming off-season(s). That falls in line with the old way of thinking. Let the young guys play this year, see how they progress, evaluate where it's looking like we'll be weak, and move forward. Mous would be an improvement at 3B right now no doubt. I just don't understand the mindset of turning down the opportunity to sign a potential difference-making all around talent for a guy, while still better than average, just is nowhere near the level of a Machado/Arenado, even Donaldson on the back 9 of his career. Remain patient, let it play out with what we have this season. No need to rush into something, especially considering the draft implications it would have. It'd be different if the Sox were picking in the 20s of every round this year. As we all know, that's not the case. Bowing out of a mid low to mid 40s pick wouldn't be very smart. It's still important to build as much high quality talent & depth as we can at this point so when the time is right that depth can be used to fill necessary holes. Patience you must have, my young Padawan!
