  1. Grifol should go after the All Star break. Once the season ends JR should probably make larger changes to the baseball side of management, starting with Hahn. Right now Rick looks like a deer caught in the headlights. I actually feel sorry for him because a lot of the close losses this season have been a result of bad luck, bad moves, and bad decisions by Grifol and Katz plus unexpected under-performance by a lot of players. And then there is this: Hindsight is always 20/20. We call that Monday morni ng quarterbacking in the football world.
  2. Ricketts has owned the Cubs since 2009, and aside from a lucky win in game 7, the cubs would still be without a WS for over 100 years. Why did Ricketts let the architect of that team leave and let almost all the key players go ? Loyalty is a trait that escapes Joe Rickets and his clan. Maybe JR practices it to a fault, but I'd rather see that than the alternative.
  3. That is a non sequitur. I know about the JR quote about ideally coming in second place year after year, but I am sure he was referring to remaining competitive year after year rather than never ever winning it. If you don't think Jerry wants to win, just replay the 2005 parade videos including JR's reaction when Konerko handed him the ball from the final out.
  4. Bad Karma and that comment should be beneath your level of dignity. This is just sports....a baseball team. Death is something that will visit all of us and our loved ones. Any one of us could get sick or get in an accident. You just don't know. You don't know who or how the ownership will look after JR passes away and whether that will guarantee a World Series. It's ridiculous to even go there. In the final analysis JR has NOT been responsible for trading Fernando Tatis, Jr. to get James Shields, trading away Marcus Semien for Samardzia, trading away Frankie Montas, or the questionable to very foolish Draft picks including Madrigal, Vaughn, Carson Fulmer or Courtney Hawkins. Hahn has tried re-building a few times before. It is time for him to go. No more excuses from him. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/03/rick-hahn-white-sox-gm.html It is also time for Grifol to go. The WSox should not be hiring a Manager in training. Ozzie is the logical replacement, but I doubt he will be offered the job and at this point, even if he was, I doubt he wants to go down as captain of a sinking ship.
  5. There is no way that Sox relievers should be walking lead-off hitter when the Sox are up one or two runs in late innings, especially when a home run hitter like Vladdy is in the batter's circle. There is also no way they should throw a fast ball to a home run hitter like Vlad who represents the tying or winning run after walking Belt. Bummer has done this a number of time this season as well. Recall that moment from the 1986 Game 6 of the 1986 National League Championship Series in Houston, bottom of the 16th inning, Mets up by a run and trying to clinch the pennant. Jesse Orosco is pitching to Kevin Bass with the tying and winning runs on base, and he is gassed. He has nothing on his heater, but is still throwing it. Keith Hernandez walks to the mound. “If you throw another fastball,” Hernandez said (he confirmed the exact words on Tuesday), “We’re gonna fight.” I think he actually said he would kick his ass. Grifol lacks the courage to do anything like that. https://sny.tv/articles/iconic-1986-mets-moment-modern-analytics
  6. Bullpen is just awful. Not sure why Grifol and Katz do not tell relievers like Bummer, ReyLo, Kelly and Graveman that they should not walk the lead-off man before they are put in there to protect a one or two run lead late in the game. The walk to Belt ahead of Guerrero was a joke. Belt was taking all the way at 3-2. You have to make Belt hit his way on base in that situation, and you don't throw Guerrero a fastball anywhere near the zone where he can barrel it up. Grifol would be fired if this was my team because I have seen this same thing happen too many times. Give games away because relief pitchers are afraid to throw strikes or just can't.
  7. Agree entirely. Frazier was over-matched by major league pitching. Looked like a wimpy red headed leprechaun up there. Colas has a chance to run into one and do some damage. Sox need to light up the scoreboard for the 4th !
  8. I like the power in our line-up tonight -- Robert Jr., Eloy, Vaughn, Burger, Zavala, and Colas. And maybe some small ball base hits from TA, Benni, and Remillard will set the table for them. I like our chances tonight. Come on... "Go... you... White... Sox" (fond memories emerge of Andy "the Clown" Rodzilsky, a great SS White Sox fan and mascot who was treated like sh1t and disrespected by Einhorn and Reinsdorf )
  9. Trades should not be made and will not be made because fans like or dislike a player for personal reasons. There is too much of that in these posts.
  10. If Hahn is tasked with selling, or blowing it up as some here say, there is no telling how much more damage he can do to the fan base. Instead of being mired in mediocrity, the Sox might be perpetually stuck in the muck with bottom dwelling teams. Sox cannot afford to wave the white flag. Instead, try to make some changes that might make the team better this year.
  11. Try to trade or release unproductive players (TA, Moncada, Grandal) and build on the core....and do that every year. It's really that simple. For now Grifol should bench TA and have Remillard, Bennintendi, Robert Jr., and Eloy at the top of the order. Also bench Grandal or put him on the IL until he is dealt or DFAed. He is toast. Don't trade our star players and Pitchers and definitely try to re-sign Gio. You blow the thing up and the Sox will not be competitive for a decade or more. I am sure that some posters here would love that outcome.
  12. These sell the team threads are distracting and often populated by cub fans and trolls. . Not going to waste my time reading them anymore.
  13. As we know, MLB hitting is a perpetual cat and mouse game with hitters vs. pitching scouts. TA and whoever is advising him on the Sox coaching staff have been on the short end of that game this season. As a fan it seems like a lot of TA's success in the past few seasons was his ability to look for outside pitches and drive them to right center or right field (as he famously did in the FOD game). Now he seems to be off balance from the first pitch - perhaps looking for pitches he is not getting... then when he gets down two strikes he looks like an easy out, not a former batting champion. Just my 2 cents, but maybe he needs to be more patient, or start looking for pitches in locations that he has been whiffing on or grounding out. And no, you don't give up on a former star player even if you don't like him personally or for some, perhaps even hate the guy for whatever reason. A lot of things have to go right for the Sox to get back into the race for the Division, and he is one part of that.
  14. If a franchise wants to compete year after year, they should never get rid of all of their top talent. MLB is a game of stars. It is extremely difficult to accumulate enough players and pitchers with star caliber that will perform at that level in the same year(s). Just WAYYYY too much oversimplification and personal preferences and even some transparent grudges here to take any of these takes seriously. This has been a tough year thus far with too many late inning heart breaking losses. Some changes need to be made, but the Sox are not going to conduct a fire sale and then have a perpetual bottom dwelling team for the next decade.
  15. Tim let it be known that he cares what others think about him. That was a mistake, Fans in general don't give a good gaddamn about players. They don't view them as human beings with the same strengths, weaknesses, susceptibilities, emotions, etc as we all have. They just want to watch "their team" win. TA was a batting champion. No small feat for a shortstop.
  16. If a team wants to win a championship, they need to put together a roster consisting of a lot of star players and pitchers. You can't get away with too many players that are league average. Right now the Sox are close but need at least one more quality starter, a legit Closer, a set-up mn, and another big bat or two. The Sox don't have enough assets to trade for star players so they will continue to lose close games. It's frustrating.
  17. You don't throw a fastball to a guy with bases loaded when you have a 4-0 lead. Better to walk a guy than let him tie the game on one swing. ReyLo has natural talent and is able to throw 99mph, but that isn't enough to be a quality reliever. Grifol is a terrible Manager. He lacks a feel for the game and awareness of situations where he can make a difference.
  18. Better comparison is Carlos Quentin, and he was pretty good.
  19. Moving the White Sox has always been a wet dream of cub fans..and a few trolls on this board. The White Sox fan base is strong, widespread, and unusually loyal. Stop with this nonsense. Sox fans are more loyal than Cub fans, many of whom emerged from parents who were fair weather fans and liked watching Harry Carey's hangover rants (after late night Banana banchis at Gene and Georgettis) and trite quips on free TV every afternoon. Had the Sox won the series against the Dodgers, which basically came down to one foolish grooved fastball by ReyLo and Andrus running error..things would look brighter now. If the Sox ( Eloy, Robert, Vaughn, Burger) keep hitting HR, and multiple HR in games, they are going to start winning more. Usually when a team hits 4 bombs in a game, they win. Not sure why Frazier is still on the roster. Bring up Colas.
  20. Not sure what Andrus was thinking trying a double steal. Was that Grifol's call? Really foolish getting caught on the oldest catcher trick in the book. Probably cost us the game.
  21. Eloy is a stud. Sorry you don't like the guy. He had key at bats again in yesterday's win as well as in the last few series. My point was, you take him out of the line-up and the line-up is weak....maybe sucks compared to what other teams have. We need all our big bats to compete including his. Eloy has been a clutch hitter. Watch the games and enjoy them instead of wasting time searching for adverse stats.
  22. Yoan is not a critical part to of the line-up. Our line-up sucks without Robert, Vaughn, Burger and Eloy. We need those four operating on all cylinders to compete. Romy is fine at second unless and until the Sox pick someone up at the trade deadline. Andrus has just not lived up to expectations from last season. Have to get rid of Frazier and probably give Colas another shot....I don't know....tough call there.
