  1. The worst thing about losing this season is that it provides fodder for some angry people that hate this team and want to drive a stake into the hearts of true Sox fans. You just have to find a way to ignore them and stay positive.
  2. Once Eloy is back I'd like to see Burger get some starts at 1B. We need more HR.
  3. Vaughn is part of the problem - namely, not enough HR from the corner outfield/infield and DH spots. Andrew needs to hit 25-30 HR to be part of the core moving forward because he is a .250 hitter with sub-standard defense and no speed on the bases. Burger might make more sense at 1B to insert more power in the line-up.
  4. Cody Bellinger would have been a much better idea. He was available and the Sox passed on him. Very poor talent evaluation by WSox management.
  5. WhiteSox position players and pitchers were vastly overrated before the season ... almost to a man. I fear an over-reaction by management where they make bad trades just to make them and as a result, this team goes from very bad to very, very bad.
  6. If I was JR I would meet with Theo Epstein and see if he would consider taking control of the whole organization top to bottom and retire/fire KW, Hahn, and Grifo to make way for that. Give him full control of everything and offer wide latitude with the purse strings. JR is fine as an Owner if he basically stays out of almost everything baseball related. In any case, KW, Hahn and Grifo have to go. Grifo is not qualified to be a MLB Manager. Hahn has had his chances and failed. KW is probably worn out with the nonsense and would probably welcome being cut loose.
  7. Robert Jr., Eloy and Burger are the three hitters I like to watch swing for the fences. Vaughn and Sheets also but to a lesser extent. We need all of them jacking HR if we have a chance at the Division. TA seems like he has lost some power in his swing so far. The team is rudderless at this point and Grifol has to shoulder the blame for that. Very poor game planning on offense and defense and a lifeless clubhouse. Shitcan the silly HR coat and hat. You are playing for last place. Get humble and serious and get down to business.
  8. Intentional tanking or losing games is tantamount to cheating. In addition, it ruins the sport and makes a mockery out of the team and the fan base. Wishing for new ownership does not guarantee more wins or a championship. Loyalty to the team, attendance at games, and taking pride as White Sox fans is what will make a difference.
  9. Go root for the Cubs and suck up to the Ricketts because you know, the way they poured profit off day traders and raised ticket prices to fund their stadium and sports network is so much different than what Sox ownership has done to their fans over the years. JR pointed out that MLB is a sport and a business and frankly, it is increasingly becoming more of the latter, especially with the infusion of gambling. Back to the Ricketts... fvk them.
  10. Last 10 games were against the hottest teams in baseball and the Sox were in some of those games. There is legitimate disappointment but lot of negativity comes from fair weather fans and closet cub fans. Sharks are in the water. Start winning a few series and sweep a few series here and there. Sox can crawl their way back. Once hot weather hits Sox hitters are going to mash.
  11. Never stop trying. Never give up. Sox need to just play hard every game for themselves, for the team and for the fans. Do that and a lot of people will jump on the bandwagon. It started out with a small band of loyal Sox fans who stuck it out in the rain to see an improbable comeback yesterday. Prove the critics wrong and make Sox fans proud.
  12. No problem there. You gained a broader perspective on life as well as on sports with age and maturity. I laugh when I see fans at football games with painted faces slamming their hands against padded walls to beckon their team to get a first down, or the more religious fans and players praying for divine intervention in a games outcome. Games mean a lot more to younger people who also tend to consider players as heroes rather than as mere human beings. Winning is more fun than losing, but knowing how to deal with losing is part of sports and other ventures in life. It is looking bad for our boys this season so let's just try to enjoy the games and avoid the hand wringing, faux disappointment, and finger pointing. Sox just aren't that good this season. Accept that and enjoy watching anyway.
  13. Moncada at 3B, Burger/Sheets at 1B , Vaughn DH, trade Eloy for pitching. When that doesn't work, tear it down to the ground.
  14. I would keep Burger who can back up at first base or third plus pinch hit. Trade Eloy who would bring in a few good prospects. He doesn't look motivated this year for some reason. Maybe he doesn't want to be relegated to DH or play for Grifol. Once Eloy is traded start the rebuild in earnest because you aren't going to have a line-up that any team is going to be that concerned about. Anyway once Eloy is traded AV can possibly DH some because he is really a substandard defender at first base. He let a ball get past him yesterday that reminded me how good Pito was at first. AV is a one tool player that has DH written all over him. He has had back issues that would be minimized if he is just DHing.
  15. If the 2023 WSox continue to devolve and they settle in under .500.... perhaps 10+ games back after 30-40 games, perhaps JR will consider giving Ozzie another chance to turn things around with this roster. The return of Ozzie was viewed as heresy by some before the season. However, Grifol does not appear to have built personal relationships with players or at least lacks the ability to motivate some of them. My factually unsupported, purely speculative guess is that some players just don't like the guy. Whatever we think of Grifo, a move will be made if things continue spiraling downward.
  16. Eloy, Robert, Moncada, Vaughn, Grandal, Colas and TA need to hit more home runs....a lot more to cover weaknesses with this pitching staff. Home runs are also what bring fans out to the ballpark. Having other teams bomb the Sox out at home is what will keep fans away.
  17. Platoon Burger and Sheets at first. Trade Vaughn for pitching.
  18. Good for Vaughn taking walks but that might not be enough to stop pitchers from pitching him outside sliders, partially because he can't run once he is on first.
  19. Not surprised if the Sox are 10 or more games out in the next few weeks. The writing is on the wall. I feel bad but nothing we can do so I'll take up some projects to consume my spare time instead of watching close losses with all too predictable bullpen meltdowns. The only games the Sox win will be occasional blowouts.
  20. At some point "the hell of a position" might be to simply move on and seek a more fruitful pastime. Baseball isn't the end of the world. It's just a game. I have only watched two games since the Opener and will increasingly look for other more productive ways to spend my time. We already know the Sox are what we thought they would be...mired in mediocrity. Why spend any more of your time watching this and complaining about it? It is what it is.
  21. Sox got a great start from Lynn and relief pitching was exceptional. Reylo has been insane so far. Many posters here called for him to be DFAed more times than one could count over the last few years. As far as fundamentals. How about Andrus catch and throw, Vaughn snagging a line drive, and that relay from Colas to Romy to Alberto? All in all a pretty solid game defensively except obviously the last play, which probably wouldn't made a difference (Twins would have had a man on third with one out and then if they didn't score, home at-bats in the bottom of the next inning). Tough game to lose, but no reason to reach broad conclusions about the coaching staff or the franchise from it. At least wait until tomorrow to see if Gio gives up the ghost.

    Kopech

Grifol saw no reason to even start the bullpen going while people in the stands were complaining about the fact that no one was even up in the bullpen....even after Kopech allowed 3 home runs. Instead Grifol let Kopech get pummeled which put the home opener all but out of reach. It truly felt like a beat down. At minimum, Grifol /Katz should have made a mound visit and told Kopech to throw high, inside fastballs to back some of these Hank Aarons off the plate. I guess that job is now left for Cease...
  23. That was the worst home opener I have been to ever and one of the worst Sox games I have ever attended. The whole thing started with a strange flyover of what looked like two commercial Southwest airlines planes...ridiculous. If TLR managed this game the way Grifol did, his detractors would have gone apoplectic with fan rage. Why would Grifo leave Kopech in to get smoked and humiliated in front of an Opening Day crowd? Why would Grifo let SF take batting practice in front of an Opening day crowd demoralizing them and embarrassing the team? Yes this was only one game, but it is one that a lot of Sox fans, the players and ownership won't soon forget. Great job Grifo.
