  1. The Sox Board long ago ceded all decision making to their Chairman without oversight. While the Sox Board were sleeping, Jerry was prolonging a dysfunctional relationship with Ken Williams and Rick Hahn who, near the end of their tenures, were almost begging to be fired. And by the way, what was/were the precipitating cause(es) of their dismissal without notice? Possibly a recording of a little chit chat they had amongst themselves mocking Jerry? You don't get shown the door by Jerry unless they showed some real contempt or possibly were caught in some impropriety. Anyway, those two hangers on played the Reinsdorfs and the Sox Board, bleeding the organization for every dime they could get out of them....money that the team now could better use to hire more competent trustworthy management. I welcomed their dismissal but hoped JR would have taken the time to hire a dynamic GM, someone who possessed some of the qualities of a Dave Dumbrowski or Theo Epstein ....a GM committed to do what it would take, including making bold trades and FA signings to turn this team around. Instead they hire a young man who reminds me of another .. well never mind. This young GM warns that rebuilding will take a long time so you know, he has some self created job security during that prolonged process. And Getz suggests that there will not be any major FA signings as the Sox continue to "develop" players - most of whom will never become mlb players let alone difference makers. This entire organization needs to be blown up from top to bottom. Whether that gets done with a major reorganization and retirement of JR or a sale to a Mark Cuban type, I would have some hope for the Sox moving forward. "The Letter"? Not enough, not nearly enough.
  2. WSox will improve and move toward being a .500 team at some point down the road but realistically, the WSox are one of several (20 or so) MLB teams that will likely never win a World Series during the next several decades or as long as the current financial structure and rules of MLB remain. Cry all you want but it is what it is. And that will be the case long after JR is Chairman of the Board.
  3. Oh you forgot boystown and tattooville. Cub organization is on a sugar high right now with all the Ricketts money thrown their way. Meanwhile, it is still on the Northside where Southsiders seldom tred or park. Bill Melton had some nice comments during an old tribute during the 2005 Sox parade. He spoke about the gentrification that already started back then in an around Bridgeport and the Halsted business corridor. I miss Melton's perspective since he actually knows all of Chicago for decades.
  4. I'd sign Santander in a second if JR would pay. A couple of years hitting 40+ HR would lift the team up from where it has been. Sox don't have any player or any prospect that can hit 40. Sox need a couple of hitters, preferably two or three who can hit 30+ HR.
  5. Sign two or three players that hit and the team improves a lot. Open the pocketbook and sign a few big names like Santander.
  6. If you have any data on what percentage of fans attending Sox games rely on mass transportation to get there, let me know,
  7. DPI Institute (a building remindful of the Helmut Jahn's James R. Thompson Center) will be on a small 1.5 acre site (at the South end of the 78) donated by Related and funded by grants from the State of Illinois, U of I, and private entities like the Pritzker Institute. Related has long been seeking an anchor tenant as aggressively as a strip mall owner. Perhaps a sports facility could potentially make sense there with careful planning for parking, ingress/egress, etc.. However that is not the case here. Ther stadium is shoehorned in to a massive commercial development. The pressure exerted by Related Development to obtain an anchor tenant (formerly Amazon et.al.) and on benefactors including Illinois and Chicago tax payers, is overwrought, ugly and laughable. As a life-long WSox fan, I fear that moving Comiskey into a congested commercial site like that would diminish attendance and eventually destroy the WSox franchise. The public can be gullible and easily taken by grifters like Related Development. Knowing that and evaluating the proposal as it is, I don't want our WSox and our fans to fall for this stunt. https://chicagoyimby.com/2024/03/discovery-partners-institute-begins-accepting-construction-bids-at-the-78-megadevelopment.html
  8. I was more upset when Getz bypassed the best available hitter at that point in the Draft only to have KC select him with the next pick. Sox needed hitting and still do. What was up with that? No matter how talented a pitcher is coming out of the Draft there is a substantial risk of arm/elbow injury. IMO, a better strategy would be to trade for pitchers and Draft position player talent. Obviously that theory goes out the window when you bring up Chris Sale or other stars, but as a general strategy, that is what I would have liked to have seen implemented. But then again, I am just another Monday morning QB here.
  9. Sox/ISFA already own the site of the original Comiskey Park. Build there and for God's sake, this time respect the Architect and Architecture of the original. Don't fvk up again My Savarice.
  10. Well no parking and no plan for sensible vehicular ingress/egress which is complicated by rail lines and the respective grade of surrounding streets. No plans for increased safety measures for fans relegated to using the increasingly dangerous/deadly mass transportation lines...just give us the money baby. Anyway, who designed that abomination? Related? Why show all those 300, 500, 700 level upper decks filled with fans? We know that will seldom or maybe never happen. No walk around as in the current park connecting most fans. What connects all the disjointed decks? Elevators? No center field concourse usable for most fans. On the exterior, what materials and elements? Brick? Split Palladian windows? Any sense of the architectural historical elements of the original Comiskey? Maybe pay sod father to walk across 35th street and throw a sand field in using Comiskey park's original home plate.
  11. Yea they traded Chet the Jet (one of the best center fielders the Sox ever had). The Sox later tried to fill his spot with Ron LeFore. I will let the younger Sox fans Google him..
  12. If the entire plot was sold to the WSox, ISFA , or the Bears, a Sports venue there very well could make sense. However, the sandlot is a gross misrepresentation of what Related has proposed. At the end of the day, they are just another greedy mega developer preying on gullible fans and tax payers while they seek to leverage every inch of real estate and every possible scenario they could imagine.
  13. Sox need a core of good hitters that hit a lot of home runs. Robert and Vaughn can't do it alone. Must add a few guys that can hit 20+ HR. HRs will also bring fans back in the park. Open the wallet and add some key free agents.
  14. On its face, this appears to be a frivolous lawsuit that warrants the sanction of attorney fees.
  15. Benni and AV 0-8 with 6-8 Ks. Put the damn bat on the ball men.
  16. True Ron, but as you know, velocity was never a big part of his game and who knows if TJ surgery will make him a flame thrower. Agree though that he should probably have it sooner rather than later.
  17. Any decision to have TJ surgery or any surgery is and will always be between a physician and their client. WSox cannot force a player to have surgery, even when they might feel it is in their best interests. They can suggest it and even request a second opinion from team doctors, but that is about how far that goes. Give the player some space to make his own decision.
  18. Grady sending Robert to steal second while down by three runs late in the game was foolish and Beckham noted that. Not sure if Sizemore is an effective baseball strategist but whatever, the franchise, as it is, lacks sufficient major league talent at all levels to field a competitive major league team. When Colson Montgomery, the Sox no. 1 prospect, is floundering in the Minors, one wonders how many years it will take to build a competitive roster. Sox Ownership and Management have damaged the franchise irrevocably and cast aside generations of fans who have grown sick and tired of supporting them.
  19. Every third base coach in the league loves Benintendi. He can't throw runners out from shallow left field.
  20. ALL mlb players who have good contracts enjoy the money and yes, those that come from poor backgrounds often spend it frivolously, like Luis Robert's jewelry. The problem with accusing black and/or Latino players with poor work ethics is that it promotes a stereotype that is not helpful. But OK, let's say they are lazy bums. Problem is that the WSox don't have a better DH than Eloy or a better 3B than Moncada and they will not spend to fill those spots through free agency. Getz' plan is long term - tear the team down for two years or more (while he gets the "free ride" you are talking about) and wait for minor league players to develop into major league players. Sounds like an unrealistic plan to build a competitive team on the cheap.
  21. Vaughn needed a single or a walk. Instead he was swinging for the fences. Big leg kick, big swing..final out.
  22. Getz mapped out a long term strategy (and career for himself) by preparing ownership and fans not to expect results any time soon.
