I hold certain prospects and players in much higher regard than your do so I think your assessment is way off base.
-
No one knows if/when Benintendi, Robert Jr., Tauchman, Houser or others will be traded or other players demoted in favor of replacements so predictions don't mean anything. Already the current team is far different than the team that accumulated such a poor record to start the season. Most people who actually watch the games are seeing a team that is much improved and fun to watch. Relax...and Go Sox.

Jerry's boys do not have the highest payroll, but they continue to show progress by staying in games and playing good sound baseball. They found a starting catcher in Teel after only one game in the majors and now they may have found a Closer after one inning throwing 101mph. OK, the W/L record for the first 2 months sunk the season but now this team is fun to watch.

This likely does not apply to Grant but I personally would like to see at least a few pitchers with special velocity or strike-out material groomed as set-up men or Closers. That routine probably would have suited a pitcher like Kopech. There are examples of pitchers who had pretty great long careers as Closer (Mariano Rivera, Goose Gossage). Imagine having a guy like that saving games for the Sox. Much more impactful than a starter unless we are talking about an Ace.

Jordan Leasure sucks as well. We don't have a LH or RH set-up man or a Closer so we keep blowing leads and losing these heart-breakers. Maybe send Elko down and put Sosa at first when he comes back and bring Baldwin up to play second. I don't know, it's musical chairs and we are always left standing. We can't have nice things like a sweep of KC or 3/4 from Detroit. Fvck. It would be a different mood in Soxland if a few things went our way for a change.

I have always liked Baldwin's LH swing and his power. He is an infielder yet the Sox tried him in LF where he made at least two errors (two that I saw). That said he also demonstrated that he has a powerful arm. I think he can play any infield position except SS pretty good, but that's just my own opinion based on very little. Bottom line for me is his bat which can be better if he cuts down on the LH home run swing.

Elko needs to hit a bomb during this series to renew confidence in him.
-
Once Lenyn Sosa returns, would you prefer Colson in the line-up over him? I think Montgomery has a lot to prove while Sosa has been hitting the ball hard.
-
There was a postscript to the reported agreement I read somewhere that stated that none of the events necessarily have to happen. That has to be wrong. There must be more solid terms to this that bind both parties.

I love the move bringing Teel up and sending Lee down. Excellent. This team is starting to get fun to watch.

Not 100% certain why the U of I, a much promoted anchor tenant at the 78, backed out after spending tens of millions and leaving the State of Illinois holding the bag. One reason that was reported in the last link I posted was that construction costs became much higher than expected. Not a bit higher, but high enough to leave contractors and the State of Illinois out 33 million. Ah, that ain't nothin'. Look, I'm not biting on bulshit thoughtless sarcastic 78 posts or responding any more to this nonsense. Proceed. -

Make me fuking laugh. A sucker is born every minute but don't count the Reinsdorfs or Ishbias among those gullible enough to buy into this attempted con job. https://chicago.suntimes.com/the-watchdogs/2025/01/31/discovery-partners-institute-university-illinois-the-78-related-midwest-bruce-rauner -
I have been pining for Teel to be called up since I met him at Sox Fest.

Not sure why some are singling out and striking out at me because I pointed out an axiom of the the building industry that all architects, engineers, excavators and concrete contractors follow - a building's foundation has to sit on a stable base. The 78 was largely a former river bed. The "78" location circa 1929 is essentially outlined in the above image. The river was drained and used as a landfill. No one including myself has suggested that buildings and concrete flatwork (sidewalks, etc) cannot be located on "the 78." Almost anything can be done, but costs and timeliness are always an issue. I could not find any historical evidence that the silt and organic residue of the old river bed was ever excavated, only that the old river was drained, filled with available soil and then used for decades as a landfill. Any new construction building including any concrete flatwork might need to be supported via piles/pile caps, etc. or excavated down past the elevation of the old river bed down to a bearing layer. Again, that can be done but ignoring added costs for those kind of solutions and possible environmental remediation depending on what was dumped there, etc., would be short sighted. A lot of the above facts as well as any plan for adequate ingress/egress have been entirely washed over by Auchi and his front men at Related who have promoted this property to any takers since Auchi acquired it from Rezko. Cub fans who enjoy the location of Wrigley and the surrounding neighborhood must laugh at a proposal to locate the Sox in a dead corner of the city that lacks any of the vibrance and charm of Wrigleyville, or to at least some extent the Sox Historic home on 35th street. Go ahead and put the Fire or Sox there. None of my friends and family (and I bet many others) will risk taking their family on public transportation to get there and returning at night on trains or buses from there. Where is Auchi to answer some questions? -

Honestly and as respectfully as I can be, I don't think you know much about this topic so I will not respond to your post. -

It is axiomatic that buildings need to rest on footings with proper load bearing. The prior river bed running through the site almost certainly make construction of buildings on it more costly. I don't believe that is even debatable. The main issue I saw/see with this site is the lack of meaningful ingress and egress. Glaringly, the developer has failed to provide a site plan that makes any sense. I have been down to the site and believe me, it is hard to even get to it. My own personal view is based on my life as a Sox fan and knowing so many other fans over the years. I am sure others have their own opinions and, I suppose, age is one thing that might influence those opinions. From my perspective, I just don't see the point of moving the White Sox away from their historic home on 35th street to get to a substandard low lying lot that only has a tangential connection to the City. -

Don't ask any questions about any of the prior (Amazon, U of I) or current ideas/proposals floated for that site because you won't obtain any answers, at least not here. Related/Auchi have never produced a single credible site plan (drawn to scale with elevations, streets, parking and infrastructure) not an architectural/artist's rendering. OK. I'll play along with the Sox/Fire cohabitating the site. Since the The Sox play 80 home games will the Fire work around that schedule? Meanwhile, I find the Sox statement that they are supposedly interested in relocating to the Related site (owned by Nadhmi Auchi) to be about as insulting and self-serving as Einhorn and Reinsdorf's threat to move to Tampa. They need some leverage in Lease negotiations you know. And why don't the media interview Mr. Auchi about his intentions for the site? He is the decider. -
6/3 GT Brieske vs Smith Tigers/Sox 6:40
tray replied to caulfield12's topic in 2025 Season in Review
The Sox losing so many games regardless of by how many runs is largely due to the fact that they do not hit many home runs. Compare Detroit. When they go up 4-5 runs with a home run or two, their starting pitchers cruise and then their pen has little pressure protecting big leads. Detroit home run power is sick. -
You are right, but at least I didn't suggest that he works out as catcher in Charlotte. My thought about trying Baldy at 1B was that he is an infielder so he could field grounders, he is a tall and flexible athlete that could reach to catch throws, and as far as his offense he had 3 HR and almost a 4th while he was up here. I think if he focused on hitting LH and maybe cut down on his swing after he has 2 strikes, he could boost his average. He is also fast and would be a base stealer unlike some of the big guys. This team is so bad, you have to think outside the box.
-
If there was a desire by owners for parity, they could figure it out.
-
I would rather see Baldwin get reps with a first basemen glove than Teel. Teel might win the starting catcher gig based on his defense and the fact that he hits home runs - a critical element of the offense that the Sox need if they ever want to be competitive.
-
100%.

On the one hand you wanted to give him a shot to show he could stay hot and get to Major league pitching and on the other you said there is a hole in his bat that major league pitching could exploit. The Sox agreed with your latter assessment.
