5/11 Sox-Marlins (Happy Mother’s Day)
tray replied to Milkman delivers's topic in 2025 Season in Review
I agree, Vargas should have won the 3rd base job over Rojas. -
IMO, Venable's decision to take Leisure out (throwing 97 mph) and put Eisert in was foolhardy. Also IMO.. some of our pitchers (not Shane Smith) make too many mistakes with their change-up and probably should not be throwing it until they improve on it and get more consistency. It should not be a pitch like a knuckle ball where a pitcher releases it and wonders where it might go. It should not end up center cut, slow and just waiting to get wailed on.

It is maddening that almost nothing is being done so far to change course. -
Chet the Jet. One of the best. I wish he was never traded to Detroit where he was part of a World Series championship. Imagine if he was on the '83 Sox.

4 game sweep in progress. Can't hit their way out of a paper bag and the relief pitching has been a joke. Then there is a Manager who just lacks the feel for Managing. -
GT Sox at Royals 6:40 pm Burke vs. Lugo

The first two games of this series were extremely tough. The errors and poor judgment cannot be overlooked nor can the lack of a legit Closer or set-up man. The best we can take away from these games is our two starters who battled pretty well out there. The Sox relief pitching as it is will put us in a position to have many more maddening late inning losses. Walking the lead-off man when you have a 1 or 2 run lead? What kind of nonsense is that? -
Hee - hee. To paraphrase the Hawk, Stone is so far up Vaughn's ass you would need a tweezers to get him out.
-
It seems like the only thing keeping Vaughn in good stead with management (other than his contract) is Steve Stone's on-air promotion of him. Not sure why Stone continues to back Vaughn like he is a relative but no time to play favorites. Vaughn invariably fails in clutch situations, so much so that it has become maddening. Scouts have had the book on him for years and that book continues to work time and again. Enough already. Give someone else his at-bats.

There really is no down side to this news but leave it to some here to try to make Sox fans feel bad about every single fvking thing. Can't leave anything alone, can't let Sox fans be happy for even one day.

Thaiss is 30 years old. Sox need to trade him as soon as they can given the log jam at catcher. I can't prove that Teel will hit from his stats, but he is one of those players where I just have that sense. I met him at Sox Fest and he impressed me. Same with Braden. Good prospects and nice guys.

It almost seemed like Jake Meyers knew what pitches were called for .... oh wait, that would never happen with the 'Stros. Just walk that sob today, or brush him back. He seems to be on everything. -
True or not true, Osik is a dick for spreading those accusations about another player. As for AV, judge him from his performance at the plate and on the field. Me, I just don't understand why AV hasn't made adjustments to his stance, leg kick, and approach at the plate. He knows he needs to hit home runs to remain in the starting line-up so he often gets pull happy, strikes out or hits into some maddening, rally-killing double plays. I have not seen Elko other than hone run highlights. Maybe he is worth trying at DH, but if it was me, I'd rather bring up Kyle Teel.

It seemed almost obvious (except perhaps to the coaching staff) that Martin could not find a pitch to get Jake Meyers out in the 4th. At that point you intentionally/unintentionally walk him or hit him with a fastball after which the Manager takes a slow walk to the mound to get someone warming up. Of course, who might that be? Murf? Sox need pitching help badly. -
Odd thing to say for you as one of the cabal of sarcastic naysayers here . Dude is not overreacting, you are.

WGN was a broadcast superstation with tremendous coverage across the Midwest. Fans throughout the Midwest loved Harry/Cub broadcasts coming in free over their house roof antenna. Meanwhile, Einhorn tried something else with Sportsvision and as a result, the Sox lost a generation or more of fans. UHF as a broadcast medium was inferior to VHF as many TVs were not able to pick it up without snow and rolling pictures. The neanderthal days of my youth..

The 78 , really? That thing has been dead in the water since the last supposed anchor tenant, U of I, abandoned their plans to build there. That cost IL taxpayers millions of dollars. Who pays us back? Ouch, I mean Auchi: https://chicago.suntimes.com/the-watchdogs/2025/01/31/discovery-partners-institute-university-illinois-the-78-related-midwest-bruce-rauner Now there's your alternate reality.

As older Chicago fans recall, the Cubs drastically increased their fan base decades ago, ironically, because of free OTA broadcast/antenna TV and Harry Carey moving his drunken rambling broadcasts to the Northside, NOT because they always had winning/championship team. As for proponents of the Wrigley experience (i.e., going to eclectic bars after games) they should go there for however many games they attend each year. Have fun. It is a nice experience, especially for North siders. As for old era baseball park architecture, Ricketts destroyed part of that by demolishing and rebuilding taller bleachers with a giant scoreboard atop them in LF, and scoreboards and advertising signs in RF to block the views to and from classic Chicago graystone buildings. I recall sitting down the 3rd base line many years ago and seeing Dave Kingman hit a 500 foot blast over Waveland and likewise watching Ch. 9 as Brickhouse did his "Hey-Hey" as Banks hit his 500th. A new ballpark on 35th street can capture much of the features that made the original Wrigley and the original Comiskey special, including bleachers facing North where balls can be hit outta here instead of banging off a scoreboard. Original Comiskey originally had that (way back when) as well. They can also come up with residential and commercial development including bars for the patrons that like to congregate after games. McCuddy's 2.0 , Turtles, etc. Maybe relocate Armor Park although that is another issue.

The post you quoted was my opinion of a published article. I am entitled to that to as long as an American flag flies over our country and the First Amendment is honored by the Courts. Please stop responding here but if you insist, have the last word. It is obvious you are responding to me reflexively and possibly with a grudge of some sort instead of thoughtfully.

To the best of my knowledge, neither the WSox nor the ISFA have recently expressed any desire to develop land at the 78 or any other land not owned by the ISFA/Illinois taxpayers. The 78 site ? Once again, that site is essentially land locked with no reasonable/cost effective solution to provide ingress /egress along Roosevelt, Clark, LaSalle or through Ping Tom. The Developer apparently wants an anchor Tenant to pay for all that*, and sign a long term land lease. (* Related has done almost nothing to begin work on said access routes for years). It is a bridge too far and may well have been one of the reasons why other potential tenants including Amazon, nixed plans to locate there. It is why the site has remained vacant for over 100 years. An extension of the Lease with ISFA would not preclude building a new ballpark at 35th street or prevent a future sale to a new owner.
-
Cool down. The lie was his allegation that I claimed to have inside information.
-
Another intentional lie.
-
Why? Ishbia has no power to prevent the WSox and ISFA from signing a long term Lease at 35th street that would allow the Sox to remain at Rate field for a decade or more, and, if they can obtaining financing or public funding, build a new stadium and sell excess land to private developers. That would be a win-win for the Sox and IL taxpayers and any future owner.
