  1. Which is another reason I will be psyched to see Braden in RF. He's better defensively in RF than any other option the White Sox have right now. And he's going to hit with power. I am impatient, watching talented athletes have to go through the grind of mastering every successive level of the minor league hierarchy before being promoted. If the best predictions by the experts have the Sox finishing with a 90+ loss season, what difference will it having a few blokes serve as placeholders?
  2. I'm not sure where on the diamond that certain players end up, especially after Chowlowski enters into the mix. My own opinion is that Shortstop and 3b require unique skills and that not every infielder can become proficient at both positions. IMO, Miguel Vargas was the only infielder we had last season that showed us that he can play the hot corner - lightning reflexes coupled with quickness. After Roch comes up, a few infielders might need to show they have the ability to play OF. Not enough starting infield spots for all these players. For example, if Baldwin is the starting CFer, where does Acuna play...2B? or does he even make the 26 man roster.
  3. If Braden Montgomery rakes in ST, does he have a shot at making the opening day 26 man roster ? I was hoping so because he looks to have all the tools needed to be a great defensive RFer - quickness, speed, and a strong throwing arm. Braden reminds me some of Jermaine Dye when he patrolled RF for our '05 WS champs. IMHO.....Braden has more upside than some of the players that are currently competing for OF spots...like Kelenic, Acuna and Baldwin.
  4. "I know the "fans won't drive" thing is going to be repeated ad naseum like soil samples and ingresses" Environmental testing and soil borings confirmed the issues that some anticipated. Stop repeating the old arguments that you lost. Oh sure, ingress and egress is no problem at the Chicago Fire site. Maybe build another stadium on the surface parking lot shown in the approved plan. No, that ship has sailed. And why even suggest that when Rate Field is right off the expressway and the White Sox 35th street train stop and is the White Sox historic home for over 120 years? Why do you keep banging on Bridgeport? I doubt you know much about it. The area to the West of Rate to Halsted has really gentrified over the past several years. You would have to drive or walk through there to get it. Did you go to the Ramova for Sox Fest? No. But you know all about Bridgeport. And I doubt you have driven down to the Chicago Fire site based on your oversized opinions on this site (want to compare the amount of your posts to mine? Talk about ad nauseam.)
  5. They would be happy to sell it I am sure based on all of the buildings that still need demo (and haven't been) at whatever paltry amount they paid for it. A lot of work and huge costs ahead for whatever entity develops that. Boarded up buildings that should have been taken down when that facility closed decades ago.
  6. I would think Tinley Park, in the heart of the White Sox South side fan base, might be better than a NW suburb. The 280 acre former Tinley Park Mental health property currently owned by the Village of Tinley Park would be one option. Needs some demo and environmental clean-up but Tinley only paid $1 for it. https://www.tinleypark.org/government/current_projects/state_campus_property.php Perhaps a deal for the Credit One theater property beginning in 2030 might also be brokered. Both locations right off I-80 and easily accessible to most Southsiders. Then the former Nascar race track property on Laraway in Joliet. Or better yet, just build it at the site of the White Sox historic home on 35th, site of two World Series championships and hopefully another. "Go ... you ... White Sox" (Andy the Clown).
  7. Ingress/egress for vehicles at the Fire Stadium site is quite restricted, at least as depicted on the site plan approved by the Chicago Plan Commission. The main access is from Roosevelt directly into a parking garage connected to the stadium. No ingress across the Metra tracks onto Clark, only a single Southbound right turn only lane for egress. (you can't cross Clark street there). The Wells street access from the North is a single narrow lane thorough a congested area. From the South, the Wells/Wentworth connector might be the best way to access the site, if as presented in this approved plan, they follow through with the surface parking lot plan. 8. tray replied to poppysox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Now that ESPN has taken over MLB.TV, I am not certain how to proceed in order to get WSox games unless I subscribe to CSHN... I have T Mobile but I am not sure how a VPN could get around that when the area code of your phone obviously reveals your appx location.
  9. Wait a second. You have driven this topic single-handedly and the amount of your posts dwarf all others. You have cast your negative opinion about Rate field often, comparing it unfavorably to Wrigley Field, once complaining that fans cannot "make a day of it there"..when the fact is that most Wsox games are night games. WSox fans, like Bear fans, arrive prior to games and enjoy tailgating there . For some, there are bars within walking distance of Rate Field and there is a bar attached to the stadium. Fans who want to continue drinking or eating late night can get in their cars and go downtown or wherever they want. It is clear that you don't know much about Rate field and/or dislike it for whatever your reasons. I am among those who actually go to games and enjoy that experience. The 500 level view that you subjected yourself to standing up and leaning over a rail in order to watch a game was unfortunate. That is one of the worst places in the stadium to watch a game. Cheap seats are pretty bad at almost any stadium, including Wrigley. I plan on going to the Opener and have my tickets. I am meeting several friends on the CF outfield concourse which is accessible to anyone who has a 100 level. One cool thing about Rate is that fans can walk all the way around the park and enjoy meeting fans, eating, drinking and talking baseball there. You cannot do that in Wrigley where you pretty much need to stay in your seat throughout the game. As far as the Fire stadium at the 78, I could care less. My prediction about extra costs associated with environmental remediation and special underpinning was right on the money. I I don't know how those costs will be absorbed and whether or not taxpayers will be on the hook for them but whatever, there is going to be a lot of risk to recover those costs. To start with, 30 dump trucks in and out with environmental waste every day for 4-6 weeks and then bringing in stone and solid fill is going to be a large number. And remember the 30 million that contractors lost when UIC pulled out of there for reasons that one can now imagine. The main issues with developing the 78 site, especially for a stadium or stadiums is not limited to environmental clean-up, underpinning foundations, and associated costs. Ingress/egress to that site for a large number of vehicles will be a challenge. I looked at the proposed Fire site plan and wonder how that plan - funneling most vehicles into a large parking garage from a proposed ramp down from Roosevelt) will work. That said, I have the best wishes for Mansueto , the Fire, and Chicago soccer fans. As far as the rest of the site, it will be brownfield forever. Maybe Auchi would consider donating it to the City of Chicago in order to make it into a dedicated green space - a North extension to Ping Tom Park, but on second thought, no way he would. Not that guy.
  10. Maybe you had the cheap 500 level seats, and that was the best view.
  11. No one ever said that that site cannot support a building, only that construction their would be costly (including environmental remediation....30 trucks in and out for a month and a half, then another several months to bring in stone and fill. lol) and then special underpinning requirements as Pepper has mentioned. Your own out-sized opinion is that Ishbia, as a new owner in 2030, will immediately seek to relocate the team from their historic location to what is left of the 78 by that time behind the soccer stadium. Maybe you have ignored the plan the city approved that does not include another stadium there. OK, keep repeating your opinion ad nauseam on a sports talk forum (hundreds of posts promoting that), use Ishbia's picture as your avatar (to what, promote your opinion?) , and maybe you will feel better about yourself or something.
  12. You intimate something that you just pulled out of your ass. I never said environmental remediation was not "a good thing." I did anticipate that it would be a costly and ambitious road to go down, and I was 100% correct.
  13. Pepper is renowned in Chicago and around the world as one of the best commercial contractors for this kind of work. They will do everything they need to do to complete their end of the work on time. I just hope everything goes OK and they and others who work on this get paid. That was not the case for those who worked on the UIC development after they pulled out. The City has restricted dump truck traffic to business hours. Not sure where those trucks are entering and leaving that site since I have not been down there recently. I am sure Pepper has cut and stoned ingress/egress driveways (to S. Clark street?) so that mud is not getting tracked everywhere. Very interesting project for those who like this kind of construction and are soccer fans.
  14. JR was encouraged to go down to Springfield by your friends at Related development for a project that would have netted them millions. Sorry Charlie, not going to happen. Meanwhile at the proposed Fire soccer stadium site, environmental clean-up has commenced - 4-6 weeks of excavation with 30 trucks per day hauling contaminated soil, garbage and waste out of there.
  15. I watched Ernie's 500th home run on a black and white vacuum tube TV. Same watching Brickhouse announce games at Comiskey. After that the White Sox on UHF band with aluminum foil added to the circular antenna to try to get a better picture. Professional sports were just not a big deal for most people back then ....nothing like what we see today.
  16. Yea, Acuna's offensive numbers are not that impressive, but let's give him a chance this Spring. He is still a young kid.
  17. Two schools of thought on making a selection - take the best available talent period...or also take the immediate and future needs of the team at a certain position in consideration. So...the WSox have quite a few excellent players and prospects that play shortstop. Given that, the Chowlowski / Lebron scouting becomes a bit more complicated and interesting.
  18. I saw that interview with Kap where Getz referred to little tuna's 4 HR game. Did he even watch that You Tube highlight ? Three of the four HR show Acuna batting RH against RH pitching....not what a switch hitter would do. This was an unforced error that can be attributed to some negligence on Getz part. Beyond that, it is also possible, even likely as WhiteSox 2023 alluded to, that Getz was desperate to unload Robert's m20 Mil. and get anything whatsoever in return, especially a player that might play Center. So no matter if Acuna was RH, LH or Ass handed...Getz just wanted to get the deal done. He never really targeted Acuna as a trade target from the outset, as far as I can recall.
  19. That was my thought as well. p.s. for hot dog lovers.. I found V sport peppers at Walmart. Milano HD buns at Jewel.
  20. More broadly on the topic of switch-hitting, IMO just speaking as a WSox fan, there are some switch hitters that might be fine if they just focused on their primary hitting side against all pitchers.
  21. Maybe he hit a HR in the Venezuelan league.
  22. Stats are obviously how mlb players are judged, but for some fans, it is also what a player did and can do in clutch situations. So I like Sosa for having been clutch with many hits and homers and never forget that Vargas Grand Slam to tie the Yankees at 4-4. It didn't turn out well for him or the WSox, but what a moment.
  23. Number one, you aren't going anywhere fast. Stay strong my friend. Next, think of all the people, young or old, who count on living x amount of additional years. Life is great, enjoy each day, but it can sometimes upset expectations of longevity.... like everything seems to be going along just fine...until one day it isn't.
  24. Ishbia has proven to be a savvy investor. No way is he going to do anything foolish, like move the WSox away from their historic home on 35th St. and risk losing attendance, knowing that many fans loved the original Comiskey and now the current generation enjoy going to games at the Rate. When a new stadium might be needed 10+ years down the road it would make perfect sense to build it where Comiskey stood. What a golden opportunity to design a new ballpark and make it into something truly special (as opposed to the abomination behind the Soccer stadium that Auchi/Related depicted in their insulting, provocative, and laughable conceptual rendering). Of course the historic location on 35th as well as the architectural history should be honored with a new stadium. The White Sox first started on 39th Street in 1900. Both Comiskey (1910) and a revamped Wrigley Field (1923) were designed by architect Zachary Taylor Davis. Beautiful red brick archwork and details at both original ballparks. Then there is the discussion of the Bears relocating from historic Soldier Field into a Dome. Halas family....Are you kidding us? Again, no idea about of the importance of Chicago architecture, which is renowned world-wide and no respect for the history and culture of Bear fans who bundle up, tailgate, and enjoy the outdoor stadium. The Bears owners may be hot for the additional revenue a new domed stadium might bring and nothing fans can do to stop them. OK, but over time, that might prove to be unfortunate. Just think of a future NFL season where Lambeau Field is the only outdoor venue becoming more unique and beloved season after season. And think of the risk of moving the WSox behind a possible future rectangular warehouse style soccer stadium with all of the known limitations of that site including those that caused many prior suitors (a Casino, Amazon, U of I...) to buck out. There isn't a reason in hell to relocate to that sh1thole which makes one wonder why anyone would want to promote it. Really foolish.
  25. I have gone to a lot of games at Rate field with my family and friends and we always enjoy going. Have you gone to an Opening Day , let's say in the last ten years? If so did you have a nice time? Have you driven to games and tailgated with friends? If you go to games where do you typically sit? You claimed there is something wrong with it so tell us why. Regarding the "dead zone known as the 78". It sure has been a dead zone for 100 years or so. It is owned by Auchi, a convicted Iraqi felon whose past legal issues prevent him from entering the U.S.. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=does+auchi+own+the+78+property%3F Not sure why you keep promoting that dead zone. There is nothing that would justify moving the WSox from 35th street, where our fans love to go, to an area that a lot of fans would not go.
