Harold: The topic keeps being regurgitated here, and often by those who, through no fault of their own, do not seem to be familiar with the area, including some views that are never published by the promoters. Thus the Google map view I posted. Look at the elevations of Roosevelt and Clark street with respect to this thing and the seldom shown railroad boneyard to the East. This thing looks like it is in a hole from surrounding streets, and it is. As long as Auchi pays his development co. to promote the hell out of this nonsense, there has to be some push back. -
I have been a fan of Vargas at 3B and Lenyn Sosa at 2B almost every game, for a while. I'm OK with Lenyn's sub par defense because he hits the ball hard and has plus arm strength for double plays. Please no Colson Montgomery, IMO.

You have to go down to the so-called "78" site to gain some of your own perspective and be able to call some of the heavy marketing of this site into question. https://maps.app.goo.gl/RYj6NALe9WjFz2MC9 -
Taylor has classic Closer stuff. The other thing is, why have a 100mph+ pitcher start games and potentially burn out with so many innings instead of focusing on Closing ? I made this argument with Kopech years ago.
-
One way to cut down on so many close losses in the 8th and 9th innings is to have a legitimate Closer. Too early to tell right now but the Sox might have found one. The pitch sequence to Devers including the change-up for strike 3 was special.

My opinion is that Plaintiff's case should have been dismissed on a Motion. There is no set of provable or even plausible facts that would create liability for the White Sox. Never forget, the burden is on <Plaintiff> to prove her case, not the White Sox ....or me, lol. As far as the animosity toward Chicago public school teachers I have an idea where that comes from but I'll let you explain that.

That is a bizarre theory for what may have happened. No one saw a gun and no weapon was seen by fans, captured on video, or recovered. Skin and fat do not impact metal detectors. Just ask anyone who had joint replacement and tried going through one.

I admire creativity and forward thinking from those who can think outside the box. Imagine that kind of stadium located somewhere down the shore of Lake Michigan with a view of the lake. Ishbia has the resources and proven expertise as demonstrated from his recent dealings in Winnetka where he swapped private property for Lake Michigan beachfront. Imagine if he and the ISFA swapped all GRate land for some area near or around the 31st beach or something like that. Game changer in the Chicago sports market. Creative and beautiful, not a hole next to the Cal sag canal bordered by the Lumber st. railroad boneyard elevated streets and the Metra tracks. -

Part of the reported agreement between Reinsdorf and Ishbia was that Ishbia is free to invest in the team starting this year... so I don't know why he is waiting. He is basically the defacto owner with Reindorf serving a lame duck term as the putative head of the organization. Time for Ishbia to stand up and start taking responsibility now. Why let this thing deteriorate before your eyes ? -
In a video first posted on TikTok, the Arizona manager was seen angrily pointing out the fan who allegedly had been taunting Ketel Marte about his late mother .... During the clip .. Lovullo is seen yelling at the fan before gesturing towards security to have him thrown out. “Dumb f***,” Lovullo appears to say in video. “His mom died, you dumb f***. Dumb f***.” Lovullo could have ignored the fan but instead chose to escalate the taunt by himself injecting the fact that Marte's mother died. This is no defense for the fan's behavior but at the same time the Manager made a larger deal out of this than it needed to be. Finally, I feel sorry for all of us that have had parents and loved ones die including Ketel's mom, but he is a professional and maybe could have handled this better (i.e., giving the fan the finger or just ignoring him and playing the game).

Venable has terrible management instincts and a surprising lack of judgment. The Sox draw a nice crowd on a a Beautiful Friday night so without Robert Jr. , he plays MAT in C and Noda in RF. Soxtalk posters were laughing at that line-up before the game started. -
The heckler actually knew that Ketel's mother died in an auto accident ... in 2017 ? Any way you slice it, the ejection was justified but it seems weird that this fan would have even known about what happened back then. I'm proud of the White Sox for dealing with this situation as they did.

The 78 has been proposed for an open air soccer stadium. Several decisions have been made by the architects/land planners as can be seen below. Note how there is almost no vehicular or pedestrian access to the East save for Roosevelt Rd. which is +20 ft. or so in elevation along the North end. -
Unfortunately race is still something that impacts opinions, perceptions, and attitudes in this country and in baseball long after Jackie Robinson came into the game. Deny that if you wish but it's reality. My own opinion of the criticism of this young man is that it often exposes more about those who engage in it than it does about the broadcaster. Schriff will never be "competent" enough for some people who are looking for someone else they can probably relate to more.
-
Schriff seems just as nice and as competent as McKnight. I really like both of them. That said, I don't like what I perceive as mean-spirited scrutiny of a young broadcaster to the degree I have seen it, including from Paul Sullivan (and I commented on that previously.) Maybe we should not lose sight of the fact that Schriff is one of the only Black Major League Baseball play-by-play announcers out there. Does that mean he should be immune from criticism. No, but it makes me think twice when McKnight fills in for a game and criticism of Schriff somehow seeps to the surface. Whatever you think of this young man, never forget, this is sports, nothing more.
-
I have XFinity high speed Internet only. I purchased the CSHN App and it has been just awful - buffering, loss of connectivity, and a non-intuitive layout where some selections just freeze the app. The default cc is captioning, which you have to turn off every time. The quality of the picture is not nearly as good as the former CSHN OTA channel. So you pay more for less.

Despite Lenyn Sosa's occasional defensive lapses, I would pencil him in at 2B almost every game. He sees the ball and hits it hard.

6/21 game thread Sox at Jays 2:05 CDT
tray replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Exactly. If the Sox aren't even going to try to win, why should our fans watch ? Why should advertisers support the Sox ? Why should the media take them seriously ? Meanwhile where is the Ishbia clan with all their billions? They have a large ownership interest in the team with the exclusive right to take control. What is the advantage to them of letting this kind of damage to the franchise and depression of the fan base continue on? I think a loser image is beginning to emerge and no one wants to be part of that or of waving the white flag. -
JR to be deposed in Sox Park shooting lawsuit
tray replied to waltwilliams's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Evidence tending to show that Plaintiff did not bring a gun into the park would not prove what she is alleging, namely that (According to John J. Malm, attorney for Plaintiff) “The defendants had a duty to protect attendees from foreseeable dangers, including firearms. Our client, an innocent attendee, suffered serious injuries as a result of the failure to take proper security measures, we believe.” The lawsuit highlights concerns regarding stadium security protocols by the Chicago White Sox and At Your Service, LLC, and oversight by the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, which owns Guaranteed Rate Field." In order to prevail, Plaintiff would have to present evidence that it was more likely than not that the gun she was shot with was smuggled in by someone who got past stadium security/metal detectors and that WSox security was negligent . Not sure how she can prove that or really prove anything other than two people got shot and they have the bullets. Perhaps there is more evidence we are not aware of. IMO, taking Reinsdorf's deposition appears to be a litigation tactic designed to intimidate Defendants into settling this as a nuisance case. That said, I doubt JR would be intimidated by this move. -

IMO, the worst part of this team (and there are several) is the bullpen. They cannot throw strikes when they need to or keep opponents from hitting ball-busting late inning home runs. Sox have been getting some decent starts even lasting into the 6th inning, then the bullpen blows it. Maybe Katz needs to go as do some of these stiffs in the pen.
