  1. And lets not forget he is only one year removed from posting a 2.22 ERA and prior to this year he hadn't had an ERA over 3 since 1996.

    obese man

The link works. A little from column a and a little from column b. I understand that there are people that have genetically are more inclined to gain weight. But there are no people that can't do anything about it if they decide to get help. There are surgeries that limit how much you can eat and I repeat, if you burn calories then you take in you will lose weight no matter who you are. I blame the obesity problem in this country mostly on parents. If you see your kid is becoming overweight do something about it. Don't keep sweets around the house, don't get fast food, and cook smaller meals. Then I hear parents say that they don't want to change their lifestyles, well too f***ing bad you have kids you put their needs before your own end of story. If parents would introduce healthy eating to kids at an early age you will develop better eating habits as you get older. And we have to improve gym classes in this country. The teachers don't make kids do nearly enough to improve what kind of shape they are in and no one works hard and takes advantage of the opportunity to work out and improve their conditioning. Fact of the matter is, most of the over weight people I know are some of the least active people I know and most of them don't have a very healthy diet. There are exceptions but that seems to be the majority.
  3. Fact is, if the White Sox are good ESPN will talk about them. When we were getting into the division race in 2003 Baseball Tonight talked about the Sox a ton. And I hope they don't bring up the Sox ineptness at winning the WS because I really don't feel like hearing that all the time because unlike Red Sox and Cubs fans I don't feel that is some kind of badge of honor.
  4. Spending a ton of money doesn't guarantee a championship but it does make it a hell of a lot easier to get to the playoffs, well that is unless you are the Rangers or Mets.
  5. Even so, we had a 3 1/2 game lead for the wildcard, plus the second best record in the AL behind the Yankees.
  6. I'm not sure about that. 1 title is not a trend and there have been plenty of fluke champs in all sports (I see the Red Sox being around for a while mainly because of the all mighty dollar). But this entire post season has given credence to the theory that in the new era of baseball money can buy championships. You can bring up sabremetrics but how good would the Red Sox be with out having the benefit of a payroll easily exceeding $100 million dollars.
  7. Hell, I'll take the Bears run in the mid 80s with the 1 SB even though that team had the talent to win more than that.
  8. If you are going to pay a guy's entire salary why not just keep him on the roster for an insurance policy. That is unless he is a clubhouse cancer.
  9. I don't have an scientific explanation but comparing homosexuality to ADD, obesity, and high cholesterol is a terrible comparison. People with ADD are given medication so they can learn and work more easily. Without medication many of these people have an extremely difficult time learning and ultimately holding onto a job. As for obesity and high cholesterol, well obviously they have a very negative effect on your health so its pretty obvious why thats considered a negative. But my question to you is why should homosexuality be considered a negative by society (without bringing in Bible texts). I understand that it does not allow for reproduction but in our current world in which there is over population anyway this doesn't pose a threat to the human race. And homosexuality doesn't harm anyone so why would it be viewed as a negative.
  10. Yeah...But IMO Lacey Chabert>>Lindsay Lohan
  11. I agree with that to extent, but the reason those are the only good teams coming to Champaign is because all are other big games non conference are neutral court or road games. And Steve, maybe you should ask your MSU team who have had their asses handed to them the last two years at Assembly Hall how difficult it is to play there. Also, Minnesota is NOT the 9th hardest place to play in the nation, hell its probably about 9th in the Big 10 alone. They currently have no fan support, the place is dead silent for every game and their team sucks so they have no home court advantage.
  12. Correction, Tim Couch was never good in the NFL.
  13. Yes actually. And sorry I didn't see your second post. I too really enjoy doing that. And picking any school from Texas for football in NCAA 2005 is recruiting gold.
  14. I didn't say I would want to coach a very small program over someone like Kansas or Kentucky, that would be stupid. But yes, I would rather coach Stanford, Illinois, Texas, etc.. places that have very good programs but need to take the next step. If you read my post I very clearly said I would rather have a very good program then one considered elite because it would be a much more rewarding position.
  15. I wouldn't, but thats only because I've always thought it would be more fun and challenging to build a very good program into a great one then go to a prepackaged great program. Where is the challenge in coaching a Duke, Kentucky, Kansas etc.
  16. Wow... a whole 4 years must suck to be them. And they haven't had any success at all, they've only been to two WS in that time frame. As everyone says, you get to the playoffs and its a crapshoot, you get there often enough and you are bound to win eventually.
  17. Life would be sweet if you are Carlos Beltran right now. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Yankees offer him over $20 mil per to make sure he signs with them. And they probably sign multiple starters from this free agent market. And I wouldn't be surprised if they go after Beltre or Nomar and move one of them to second. This offseason could get out of hand.
  18. Don't forget Carl Pavano, Odalis Perez, and Matt Clement (can never have to many starting pitchers).
  19. There is no lead safe with Koch in the game if he is left in long enough.
  20. I find it funny that the announcers seem to be blaming this choke job on the Yankees pitching staff when its been their $100 million dollar lineup thats let them down.
  21. Yeah, and they look exactly like White Sox hitters. No patience at the plate at all, a bunch of Yankees have been ahead in the count and the first pitch near the strike zone they pound into the ground right to Cabrera. No one is going the opposite way or trying to do the little things to get on base. I really do feel like I'm watching the White Sox try to play and win a big game rather than the Yankees.
  22. I agree in a sense, but in this situation I'm doing anything I can to get on base, and if it means bending or breaking the rules without getting caught I would probably do the same thing.
  23. And Illinois is better at every other position than MSU besides Center and if someone wants to try to argue that be my guest. I don't remember anyone on this board thinking Illinois was going to win the title last year, I thought they would get to the Sweet 16 and lose to Duke and thats what they did. I also have said on here before that I thought Wisconsin was the best team in the Big 10 followed by UI and that MSU was a distant third. How that shows I thought they would win the title is beyond me. Yes, this year I do think Illinois has a legit shot at the national title and should be preseason top 5. However, I also feel the same holds true for UNC, Kansas, Wake, GT, and Syracuse. If anything before the season started last year it was MSU fans overrating their team, and I especially loved them saying their backcourt was better than Illinois.
