QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 12:25 AM) I think you're being a bit hard on him and discounting the next stage of his evolution as a hitter... he really is primed to start stepping into his power next year. Get what you're sayin and all, thou. I laugh to myself when I see people still thinking Avi has power lol

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) If TA is good (and Sox are picking up his two team options) and Turang is a top prospect, say top 10 in MLB, but is still 3-4 years away then the Sox can flip him for whatever they need to make a pennant push. I just really like the idea of drafting a top SS prospect. Those are rare and guys like Beer frequently drop into the 8-20 range. Sox aren't going to be picking top 3 again in 2019 if things go well next year development wise. I am not sold one bit that this team still wouldn't be bottom 3 again next year. They literally have 0 bullpen pieces and had career years from guys this year (Avi, Leaury, Yolmer, Davidson, etc). Plus our questionable (at best) starting pitching. I hope they all are for real but I just don't like those odds. I am not expecting much. But I'd absolutely love to be wrong.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) Hoskins with another big hit. 2-run double, Phillies up 4-2 in the 5th. Hoskins is my boy! I drafted him in my dynasty league in the 40th (last) round hahah

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) Seth Beer is a guy you take a chance on at the top of the 2nd round if he's available. There is potential for a generational bat, but if the glove doesn't play anywhere else, then your risk is ultimately way too high to draft him anywhere but there. I am guessing that Beer will end up in the back half of round 1 where a team can afford to take that risk, especially a team like the Yankees, whose system is among the deepest in the majors at the moment. There is absolutely no way Beer will fall outside of the top 10. He may be at the backend of that but his bat is unworldly. He won't fall far

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) At this point I have to imagine the Sox will get some nice offers for Avi this winter. I agree. I'm interested to know what kind of offers they got for him at the deadline. you know they at least received some offers...

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Still need these guys to play somewhere in the field eventually, we may end up with 5 DH/1b by the time we're contending. I completely agree. I didn't mean to make it seem like that's who I'd like. I honestly don't know yet and don't know enough about everyone. I like Turnag and Hankins a lot. I just wouldn't put Beer past them since that's the type of player they've been drafting. They haven't been too interested in Defense the past few years so I'm not certain that'll change.

QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) Brice Turang gets my vote. Super high ceiling prep SS that projects to stay there long term. Struck out ONCE in 101 ABs last season. I'll be watching both he and Jarred Kelenic very closely this coming season. Sorry, I wasn't insinuating I want him drafted. I also love Turnag and Hankins. I just wouldn't put it past the Sox with the players they've been drafting.
-
I still really love Seth Beer. He fits exactly what we've been drafting recently too. Powerful bats with great walk/K's ratios but lack defensively. Despite is shortcomings I wouldn't think he is for sure a non-option anywhere for us from any pick we have

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) The White Sox will take the college pitcher over a high school pitcher. Brady Singer and Alec Hansen will look nice in the pipeline. honest questions because I simply don't know.. What is it that people love about Singer? His college stats (i know it's not all about stats) simply don't shout out stud #1 pick. Someone fill me in!

Another beautiful day for the tank

I like the idea of people throwing out Harvey. He will be traded this offseason. He may be beyond repair but if I trust anyone to fix him it's Coop. But the real question is... What would it take?I wouldn't feel comfortable trading any of out top 100 prospects or Dunning. But I also don't think a Collins/Fulmer/Basabe type of guy would be enough for them to trade him.. It's a weird situation and i just don't know what it would cost.

Last night was huge to get both the Phillies and Giants winning

QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 05:29 PM) Completely agree. Today was a BIG loss. I am very happy the Sox lost this one. A top 2 or 3 pick would be huge. I want hankins after seeing this I WANT HIM I WANT HIM I WANT HIM!!! Look at all that movement on everything... After the videos I've watched I do not see how he isn't the #1 pick.. I want him so bad ahhaha

What a perfect game for the Sox!! This could be exactly what they need to completely derail the end of the season and guarantee a top 3 pick. WOHOOOO

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) We need a bullpen next year. So frustrating to what these guys give up homers I love watching them give up homers! As long as the future performs well I'm happy. The bullpen can blow every game for all I care this year. GO TIGERS

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) Perfect example of what I was saying about poster arrogance. Perfect comp is Melky ,PERIOD. So cocksure yet ignored defense you know, the other half of the game besides offense. lol.. why are we acting like Avi is a saint defensively? Melky is bad, yes. Avi is not much better. Let's not forget when melky was 26 (same as Avi) he was a CF'er. Much harder position. Avi is 26 and is relegated to a corner OF spot (at best). That comp is not out of the ordinarily, and I'd like someone to give me one better.. I'm open to one, Melky just came to mind quick and it made and still makes so much sense. Especially when you consider how much faster Melky was then.
-
If Melky Cabrera was 26.. Would you really give him a 5 year 80 million dollar deal? The perfect comp to Avi Garcia is Melky.. period.
-
I also don't believe anyone here is advocating trading him for a basket of bananas. We'd all want/expect something of value for him. Like a Hot N' Ready pizza

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) I've read all the threads. Many profess to 'love' Avi but it all boils down to one thing. The consensus is don't pay him. And many want to trade him. Even though Lillian put together great post after post about how you need guys like Avi and Jose Abreu to go with the young studs to win a pennant (now Lillian knows how greg feels as the antagonist), very few are buying that. Sox fans don't want to pay anybody cept international prospects who need the lump sum to join the organization, certainly don't want to pay Avi. That's fine. Let's drop the subject. Tell me if I'm reading the people wrong. The naysayers usually start their posts with the caveat "I love what Avi did this year or I love Avi, but ..." The majority opinion is don't sign Avi for more years; for gawd sakes don't give him a lot of money. We are Sox fans. We don't want to pay our own. We don't respect our own (veteran players). We love prospects and we LOVE low payrolls. That's how I read this thread. It's America, feel free to tell me I'm full of bleep. Read Lillian's posts and read the responses. Very few want to pay Avi/keep Avi around once he needs more money. It's prospects we want, baby. Lilian, thanks for trying and your great posts! Now I see why no one likes this guy. lol in all seriousness us "naysayers" don't want to fork over 100 million for a guy who shouldn't have made this roster out of spring training, despite his outstanding year. We want to see more before we invest in him.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) He's hit 17 HRs in 121 games, including a stretch from the all star break to September where he didn't hit a single HR (likely due to the hand injury he suffered having an effect on his power, as well as the missed time due to said hand injury and a separate knee injury). I think 25-30 HR potential is in that bat if he can be healthy for 162 games. He won't hit more than 15-20 in a season, though, If he can't keep himself healthy and in the lineup. Rarely does anyone play 162. So let's just go with 150 because it's easy math and is definetely reasonable. He has hit 17 HR in 121 games.. That's 14% of games. If you multiply that by estimated games played he hits only 21... Avi is not a power hitter. You can't negate his poor month either.. Do we just negate his best month then? You include it all because bad stretches happen.

Have the sox found an all star in avi?
Squirmin' for Yermin replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My opinion: I was the biggest Avi fan when we brought him over from the Tigers and remained a big fan. However... I am not sold. He is strictly a singles hitter. Little power to go with him with an extremely high BABIP. However, that's not to say he can't be productive. I see him as a .270 hitter, which before the season to see that would have been crazy. That's a useful #6 batter. I think this is a career year for him. I think you EXPLORE trade deals, though only taking one if it includes a very good prospect. If not you hold him and ride this out, hoping it's real. I'd try to extend him this off season for about Anderson money. 6-8 million a year. If he declines (which i wouldn't blame him) you try to trade him, if you can't you simply hold him and take that qualifying offer in two years and get that comp pick. Anything close to 10 mil is crazy for him given his track record, and that fact that he literally is a 1.5 tool player. Just my two cents.. It's been a fun year but I am not completely sold. PROVE ME WRONG AVI -

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 12:54 AM) I've been saying all season that Avi will be a perennial all star the rest of his career and a future HOF inductee (maybe first ballot). If our rebuild is to be successful, we must sign him to a long term contract (unfortunately, the organization has probably cost itself 50-75 million by waiting til this point) I'd be surprised if there's every been a HOF who had as bad of a start to a career as Avi has.. lol Let's not get crazy -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 07:39 AM) Avi's BABIP may regress, but I also think he will be hitting more homers. I don't think anyone expects him to hit .333. But if he hits .285-.300 and hits 25-30 homers, he's a lot better than anyone thought coming into this year when people were upset the Sox gave him $3 million and weren't giving Rymer Liriano a shot at playing. I can't stop but get confused why people this Avi is a power hitter.. Why do they? Because he is tall and bulky? The dude has 17 homers.. May not even crack 20 this year (he's 26) and people still think he could hit 30? He is what he is. A singles hitter. Let's stop assuming and hoping he's all of a sudden going to become some power hitter you need to backout the outfield for
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) How? They already have too many outfielders plus young guys like Bader, O'Neill and Sierra. Also yes.. they have a lot of below average outfielder that they thought would be good who haven't turned out.. Piscotty, Grichuk. IDK if they're a fit too for the reasons you mentioned but they definitely aren't set in the outfield.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) How? They already have too many outfielders plus young guys like Bader, O'Neill and Sierra. Many posters here put them at the top of the list of Avi suitors. Weren't there rumors they were interested around and before the deadline too?
