Athletics interested in Avisail Garcia

What could we realistically ask for from the A's? -
QUOTE (fredmanrique @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) The more I think about it the less it makes sense to lock up abreu at $20mil + per year in 2020 and beyond. (age 32-37ish) Love the mentor angle with moncada but bring in one year vets like Melky or Adrian Gonzalez to fill that role. (taking on minimal salary or getting a legit prospect to take on that contract in the A Gon example) I'd do groome, Rodriguez with Boston or McMahon plus from Colorado for abreu. it's probably not time for Avi deal until midseason - where we decide if he's part of the core or not, but I bet Atlanta would love to turn kemp into Avi in right. Take on that kemp deal and I bet we could get multiple starters in top 100 back. not their top guys but Ian Anderson, gohara, etc. Point is, we can keep payroll similar by swapping abreu and avi for veterans that can also be mentors (not sure about kemp) while adding 3-4 legit pitching prospects at different stages of arrival. i.e. Rodriguez, groome, Anderson, gohara. That's too much potential for 2 years of control of veteran leadership. I'd love a Garcia trade starting for Gohara. Plus it seems the Braves are ready to make moves and get people in that new stadium. You've got my attention sir!

I'd LOVE to bring in Trevor Rosenthal. I see he was just released. He would be the perfect reclamation project for Cooper. Former dominant closer, still at a good age

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) Yeah. Then get some more relievers and repeat - I can go for that. They shouldn't have had to give a good prospect to cover 30M of Shields' salary, as shaky as Shields was. No one thought Tatis was a good prospect.. No matter how much we all want to hate the trade it's a guarantee 98% of us approved of that trade when it happened.. Tatis was no one to us at the time

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 07:41 PM) I wouldn't count on Rodon for anything going forward. He just had shoulder surgery, and even though there was no structural damage, nobody knows how it will respond. At best, I'd pencil him in as a LOOGY or late inning reliever, or 5th starter. I also am of the belief that Rodon shouldn't be counted on as a starter any longer. I'd actually prefer that we move him to the bullpen as a setup man or maybe even try him as a closer. I'd imagine in a closer role his fastball and slider would be devastating, The dude just can't stay healthy.. I think it's time to make a switch with him.

I will go with a surprise signing of Jake Arrieta.. Pull a Cubs move by signing a big SP one year too early. (Jon Lester)..

Off Season Buy Low Candidates

Why has no one mentioned Schwarber... If he were on any other team but the Cubs everyone would want him as our buy low guy. -
QUOTE (coco1997 @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 05:35 PM) I wouldn't trade those guys for two catchers when Narvaez is fairly serviceable and Collins is almost ready. Collins was BARELY ready for A+ lol

Giancarlo Stanton traded to Yankees

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) Lots of Stanton rumors in Boston. Some combination of Bradley, Bogaerts, Groome, and others for Stanton and either Ozuna or Yelich. Jeter told to get payroll down. I wonder if Bogaerts is on his last leg in Boston. They seem confused with what to do with him in their every day lineup. I wonder what it would take to grab him.. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) It sure seems like they are setting him up for it. I can't remember the last time one of our MiLB guys got national press like he did. Who is this?

I agree with SoxFan that they like that Renteria speaks spanish. It seems that the Sox always have a high number of spanish speaking players, moreso than any other team. No data for this, just eye balling. So I think they love that about Renteria. HOWEVER, I'd love the idea of bringing in Girardi assuming he wants to coach more. He wanted to be in Chicago a few years ago, maybe he'd come to the Sox? All just speculation now..

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 07:05 AM) Not a "buy-low" candidate but Adrian Gonzalez really has no room on the Dodgers roster. He would be the perfect guy to trade for (along with a good prospect or two) if he was with another team but since the Dodgers don't really seem to care about money, it's likely they'd be more willing to release him. He's set to make $22.4 million next season, the last year of his contract. Ew.. Why -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) Joc Pederson is another guy. The Sox need LH hitting (hi Lillian). The Dodgers seem to always have too many players but they usually use them. He's about to make some more money. I don't know it the Sox have anything that would interest them that isn't a prospect, but you never know. I actually love this idea.. You get a really good defensive CF and one that has 25+ HR power. If he could bat .250 and hit 25 HR with his usual defense that is one really good player batting around 7. I'd figure he would be fairly inexpensive as well. -

I love the idea of a guy like Franco. I just don't see how the Phillies could discount him that much. It would have to take a Dunning sort of talent at least. -
In no way, shape, or form did Singer dominate. THAT is why he makes me nervous as a 1-4 pick.. I just do not like it (things can change).

Why do people like Singer again?? No one has answered that for me..

White Sox outright 5 to Charlotte

I think you try to protect Eloy, Gillespie, Polo, Adolfo and Guerrero. We have the spaces and losing any of those would really suck. I don't feel confident we would get Guerrero or Adolfo back. -

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) my 2 cents: If you have a choice between Arenado, Harper, Machado and Stanton and you tell me the Sox WILL sign one? I put Stanton at the back of that list. I still like Arenado and Machado a whole lot more than the others. However at the same time if you tell me this is JUST a contract dump? I'd entertain Stanton. I do think he'll have a big trade market however if it just a contract dump. Giants, Phillies, Yankees, Cubs, RedSox, Dodgers can all absorb that price tag a lot easier than us.. People may think I'm crazy, but I can see the Yankees going after Stanton AND Harper... Imagine an OF of Judge, Stanton and Harper ...... infield of Torres, Sanchez, etc. But to go back to the original question - yes I'd acquire Stanton. He'll be 38 at the end of the deal ... Pujols is 37. It's not inconceivable for Stanton to play 6-7 really good years within that contract and a few more at replacement level. I may be alone here but give me Arenado any day of the week.. I'd rank them Arenado, Harper then a STEEP dropoff to Machado, Stanton. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) I'm not sure but I know players would love it. I base that off of the criticism some players had for the system when Moncada signed for $31.5 mill while top draft picks are signing for significantly less. Interesting topic.. If we do a draft we will get less good players coming.. Abreu, Cespedes, Moncada, Otani, aand others wouldn't come if they were just going to get the 1st overall pick money.. It's interesting. I'd love a draft but if they do that I think you lose out on lots of top talent..

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) There is no way in hell I'd even think about trading Collins. No one wanted Fulmer 1 month ago and Collins had a bad year. I think that's fair. Remember I did say I'd like money back too. I think that's about what it would take to land Stanton and I'd be willing to do it for those two. I think Fulmer at BEST CASE SCENARIO is a 7th inning guy. Collins had a bad year but still has some projection so he's harder to peg but his terrible K% is extremely serious since he was supposed to dominate the minors with the bat.. He couldn't even handle A+ ball.. This is a fun topic! -
Rating the Rebuild: Completed Year 1 Edition

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) Sorry, but how could it possibly have gone better? We will end up with the 2016-7 #1 prospect in baseball (Yoan), the likely #1 or #2 prospect in baseball going into 2018 (Eloy), the best 2018 pitching prospect in baseball (Kopech), and a handful of other guys not far behind or already showing signs in the majors. All achieved by trading 3 players and spending some money in the international market. This franchise was effectively dead before the 2016 off season. Nothing in the farm system and likely wasting the primes of Sale/Q/Eaton since it was not possible to build around them without a 400m payroll to fix all the other holes. I haven't been this excited about the future of the Sox since 2006. Is it guaranteed? Of course not, nothing is. Is it light years better than the bulls*** they tried for the previous decade? 1000000% yes. Because of that dang Yankees trade. It was light almost all around. That's why I and many others dropped their score from a 10. I gave it a 9. My favorite year in recent memory -

I would be willing to do a Fulmer and Collins package ASSUMING they eat some of that money.
