  1. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) I know Flaherty is pretty good, but is Sierra at the level where that's a deal we can't turn down? Any second piece is going to have question marks. To get anyone as the second piece that we could immediately plug into the MLB would be a cant turn down deal. He has potential and is a great defensive CF. He's the second piece not first.. If you think that trade is light then people are going to get really upset if we wind up trading him and we see what we get. However, I hope I'm wrong
  2. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Flaherty and Sierra. I don't see how unless you're of the camp that doesn't want to trade Abreu regardless. I'd be surprised if we got a deal of Flaherty and Sierra for Abreu.. Seems too good to not jump all over
  3. This is outstanding. I was wanting to see if we could get him when the offseason began
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) I do think we can compete in 2019, but that's beside the point- I value his leadership more than most, I suppose. It's not just an on the field issue to me. We've had major clubhouse issues over the years and he has been vital to maintaining it That is just such a soft argument to me though.. You can sign a cheap leader if that's what you're worried about. Get me a good young prospect or two who have a legit chance to make an impact during our contention period.
  5. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) Jason Martinez of mlbtraderumors had this to say: "Zamboni 5:44 Flaherty and Sierra get it done for the Cards for Abreu Jason Martinez 5:45 I'd say one of their top pitching prospects, one of their best OF prospects and maybe one low-level guy with high upside. So Flaherty/Sierra could be in the vicinity of what it would take." I'd prefer to swap Kelly and Flaherty based on organizational needs but that return would be absolutely outstanding.
  6. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:55 AM) I hope this brings other teams like the Rockies around with more depth in the system. Rockies are losing cargo and could move Desmond to outfield and open up 1st base They would be the ideal trade partner.. Give me Dahl please
  7. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) Gotta get Chavis back in any Abreu trade scenario with Boston. He's blocked by Devers at third and would be blocked by the guy he's getting traded for. I'd agree. Chavis makes too much sense. But I DON'T think you can get JBJ and Chavis. OR Groome and Chavis.. So I think a deal will have to get creative.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) If Rutherford came over and hit immediately, you would have no problem finding someone. Right.. But even at the time of the deal most people thought it was really light. But anyways.. that's another discussion. Back to trading Abreu!
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) I think he really wanted Rutherford. He better have really wanted him... I've yet to find someone who was super happy with that deal though (like the others)
  10. QUOTE (Scoots @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) If Hahn has shown us anything in the last 12 months, it's that he won't budge on a move if he thinks he is not getting what his player is worth. Abreu is undervalued and is worth way more than what someone not in the Sox organization might think he is worth. He probably has 3 more seasons of .300 average, 30 homers and around 100 RBIs. The only way I see him going is if Hahn can get a deal done similar to Eaton and Sale. He budged BIG TIME on the Yankees deal though... I'm still sad
  11. I love this. Don't forget about Eduardo Rodriguez either. We had interest in him in a Sale deal if I remember correctly. He could be another MLB player available.
  12. QUOTE (zisk @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) I am hoping for Carlos Gonzalez. LF,DH,RF til Eloy is ready. Then flip him at the deadline if he has a bounce back season. Yes I have thought of him and loved the thought of bringing him in on a one year deal
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) This goes both ways. You guys who only want prospects to be our rebuilt WS team frustrate me. Why? Our division blows? Yes there's been a flavor of the month, KC when it had the great bullpen and Cleveland (I guess) the past two years. But it doesn't take much to compete in this division. That's why it frustrates me to get rid of Avi and Abreu and push back contention time even more. You guys act like the rebuild is the only way to win a division and get hot and win a WS. And by rebuild I mean the entire roster. Some of us like to have some familiar White Sox names around. It's not our fault it "hasn't worked" before because of an incompetent front office. I understand your position. I don't believe you try to understand ours. Minnie made the playoffs this year for gawd sakes. You guys give our front office a pass for horrid baseball since 2005. I don't. Giving our front office a "pass" would mean to let them keep doing what they had been doing and NOT selling. Which is exactly what you want Greg.. Sounds like you're giving them the pass.. But oh well.. the incoherence is confusing.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) The Sox would still be out. Penalty phase is two years. We are now serving year 1. well this makes me sad... I didn't know/forgot it was a two year penalty
  15. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) Important note: Every team can sign Kevin Maitan. Teams will be able to use money from the current bonus period (2017-18) or dip into next year's pool (2018-19). They cannot combine the money from both years. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/933081338818777089 Theoretically, this would allow all teams to go after Kevin Maitan, but as we know, teams already have most of their 2018-19 bonus pools committed. Early signings are simply a reality in the current state of play in Latin America. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/933081643610509312 F*** yes.. Let's go balls to the wall!
  16. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) We might not be. I don't know how to embed a tweet, but Badler said this a little while ago: With the new international system in place, the precedent set with the Red Sox doesn't really matter. Badlers tweet makes me feel a little better about our chances.. Let's hope for a change
  17. We aren't in play here right? Since we can only offer 300k.. or can we go over? Is this a special case? I'm confused lol
  18. I don't see how limiting it to 2017 international bonus pools is fair to teams who are over it since they were unaware Maitan and others would be available.. hmm This should have a special rule where anyone is allowed in, but you'd ahve to pay the double tax if you're over (like how we signed Robert)
  19. I'd love to add a guy like AJ Pollack in 2019.
  20. Yeah I don't get the argument of not protecting him.. It literally makes ZERO sense.
  21. Goodness.. Our bullpen is in shambles. But this move and the Burr move, where all we gave up was international bonus pool for both are amazing. Both are older so have close proximity to the majors and both have legit intrigue (Not like a Beck arm). I love Hahn and what he is doing.. Is this how he is going to build some of our bullpen?! I love it!
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Right. As of now, I think it's very possible they win 82-87 games. Those moves would obviously change things. Regardless, I disagree with those who think we're going to be worse/as bad this year than we were last year. A 20 win improvement?!?! omg stop. If we win 70 games that would be huge to the rebuild.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) It seems to be an international amateur signing which I agree with. You just pretend like he never signed with the Braves (except that he keeps the money). And im guessing the international pool money will be dated now as opposed to when he signed in 2016? aka we had money in 16. don't have any now.
  24. Does anyone actually know if he will be considered a FA or international amateur signing or are we just speculating? If he is a FA we have a chance and I'd imagine a good one.. If it's international bonus money we have no shot.
