July 18, 20169 yr QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) Yeah, it's been frustrating. No doubt. While it is frustrating as you said a few guys wake up , Morneau hits, Rodon does what he did at the end of last season, Sheilds pitches more like he has recently and suddenly the lineup and starting pitching look ok . Might even trade Gonzalez for a relief pitcher then stick Fulmer in the starting rotation ( if his inning limits can be controlled) or if Fulmer helps in the pen then offer up Avi for more relief help. It certainly isn't hopeless . If I'm going to watch the games, like I always do, then it's with the idea that it's not over til it's over. Gonzalez could net the Sox something usefully young which wouldn't be too bad for a cheap pick up. His FIP has been OK as have his HR's/9. We all know starting pitching is always in demand . I know the Pirates are looking for a controllable guy but that won't come cheap so they may have to settle for less. Edited July 18, 20169 yr by CaliSoxFanViaSWside
July 18, 20169 yr How can Morneau hit when he's not in the lineup again tonight? Robin taking an interesting approach to helping him get consistent reps. For those who want to take a look at what he does against lefties, take a look at what Avi has done first. Edited July 18, 20169 yr by Special K

July 19, 20169 yr QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) If we keep playing the way we're playing, anyone who thinks this team is going to catch Cleveland is crazy. We don't have to catch Cleveland just get a wild card spot
July 19, 20169 yr Nail in the coffin boys. Fire the entire coaching staff after the season. Fire Hahn, Kenny and the scouts. Start fresh. Go all out for a great young group of fresh faces. Sell sell sell.

July 19, 20169 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 10:43 PM) Can Ventura now to give Renteria a tryout I'm all for it my man as you well know, but clock is ticking. Almost August.
July 19, 20169 yr QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 10:45 PM) Fire Hahn, Kenny, Robin. Leave Renteria for now but let the new front office deal with him as necessary. Agree wholeheartedly. I'm now thinking if ya do that, unless you're blown away you don't trade the pieces. Probably get fair value for Melky, Robertson and Frazier but don't trust Hahn. Would just rather let the new front office do it.
July 19, 20169 yr Back to cheering for losses again. This gets really old. Going from the best record & playoff odds in the American League to this in ~2 months is peak White Sox.
July 19, 20169 yr And Reinsdorf wonders why we don't come out and pay harded earned money to fill the stands? For what purpose? I still love watching the Sox but if I can watch at home for free, why pay to see the same crappy game?

July 19, 20169 yr It has been pretty clear for a while that Robertson no longer has Closer stuff, at least since Robertson allowed 6 out of 7 runs in the ninth to blow a 7 run lead and lose to the Royals at the end of May. Just like he did in that game , Ventura sat and watched Robertson implode instead of getting him out of there, or going out to the mound himself to calm him down and perhaps mpart some useful information...like how to pitch guys. Robertson vs. Adam Lind had disaster written all over it. It was like you knew it was going to happen. The season is not over, but someone has to take responsibility for things to chanage. Demote Robertson from Closer status or trade him and re-assign Ventura to West coach scout.
July 19, 20169 yr In the question of buy or sell, this quite clearly answering that question on the field.

Last night and the non save situation you mentioned are pretty much the only blips on his resume. He's been pretty damn good otherwise with only 1 or 2 normal hiccups along the way. You can blame a lot of things on a lot of guy's, but I don't understand how you think demoting a closer who has 3 blown saves and 2 L's on a very crappy team is going to solve anything. Trading him because the season is indeed over and we don't need a closer? That would have been a much better rant to go on...

I b****es after the game but he's not the scapegoat for this team. Closers blow games. Even the almighty Kimbrel has blown them for Boston.
July 19, 20169 yr The problem with Robertson is when he doesn't have his stuff he isn't 1 ER bad he's 600 ER bad. He is always nails for April, gets tired, then suddenly is on only 1 in 10 nights.
July 20, 20169 yr Thinking back to the nightmare of 2013, at least then it seemed the pendulum had finally swung as far back as it could before heading the other way. Now it just seems the pendulum is dead. SFF
