Quintana

Quintana and the bullpen pieces fit what the Brewers are doing rather nicely.

Send them Shields and Swarzek with the Sox eating the remaining salary for Shields as well.

Why would Brewers want Shields?

Holland and Swarzak...or MiGo if healthy.

I doubt the Brewers make any big ticket trades, but the division is theirs for the taking this season which may cause them to reconsider.

Garza and Suter are 3/4.

Ch. Anderson and Guerra both on DL.

They need pitching pretty desperately.

But at what cost?

The two anonymous GM's were not kidding when they said the cost for Quintana/Gray would be Brinson + Hader + Phillips (or a very similar package). I think the Brewers would be open to dealing their second tier prospects, but not Brinson or Hader

Who wouldn't? But how easy would that be for about 10 other teams to top?

What about the Cardinals?

They aren't out of it, and they don't want to rebuild anyway. Q would work well for them.

Melky probably makes sense for the Yankees with what is going on with Bird. He gives them OF depth, but can DH everyday and let Holliday play 1B for the rest of the year. It won't be cost prohibitive in terms of prospects, and would provide an upgrade on their current production.

Packages I would take for Quintana:

HOU: Tucker, Whitley, Alvarez

NYY: Frazier, Adams, Andujar, Abreu

MIL: Brinson, Ortiz, Diaz

CHC: Jimenez, Cease, Candelario, Perlaza

ATL: Acuna, Anderson, Riley

Any of these riduculous? Yankees give up four top 10 guys, but Frazier is a cut below those other OFs based on the most recent mid-year prospect rankings. And it would clear three spots from their 40 man roster crunch.

These are really good and realistic. One you didn't mention that I think would be valuable and realistic is

LAD: Verdugo, Buehler, Calhoun/Diaz

I think Hahn is going to position Frazier as an option to both the Red Sox & Yankees. You're not going to get a ton for him regardless, but adding a bit of leverage could ensure a decent return.

Last I saw, they were waiting to see how they started July to determine whether they are buying or selling. They 5.5 out of first and still have to jump the Cubs to get there. They are 7.5 our of the WC and have to jump the Cubs and Rockies or Dbacks.

I like your Yankees proposal the best. Was tough because you included Whitley with Tucker and Whitley is the pitcher I've had my eye on since last winter so I struggled with which I thought was the best proposal. But man, Whitley would fit right in with Hansen and Dunning in Winston-Salem.

Well this is interesting. I wonder what he's basing this on. The Rockies are a dream match up. First, they have tons of position player prospects - Rodgers, Dahl, Tapia, McMahon. Second, they would benefit more than most organizations from shifting a potential position player asset to a known quantity SP. Not that guys like Rodgers and Dahl are ever expendable, but it is much easier for the Rockies to plug an anonymous player in offensively and see him succeed given their ballpark. Acquiring a veteran top of the rotation start is much more difficult for them. Lastly, their front office is crazy enough to entertain some bold moves.

I think a Verdugo/Buehler package would work for us, but someone pointed that Dodgers' rotation is already stacked with lefties. Gray might be a better fit for that very reason.

The Rockies should also be added to the list. They don't have a single starter who has gone 200 innings before. If they want to have a chance at a successful postseason run, they'll need to another quality starter with a history of durability like Q. I said it in another post, but Rodgers is the only guy they have capable or being a headliner. I'm doubtful they would move him, but then again their front office is a bit of a wild card.

So, who are the suitors for Q?

Astros

Yankees

Brewers

Dodgers

Braves

Cubs

Rockies

That's a nice large group of bidders.

Yankees typically wait until very end. Could benefit sox in saying if you want us to deal now you have to pay extra otherwise they'll wait for full set of suitors.

There were scouts from 10 teams at the one start a few weeks ago.

Yankees are going to wait until the deadline to assess before making any moves. They likely are not championship contenders this season, and I think they prefer to hang onto their farm assets.

I do agree with this. Hell, they were over .500 and ahead of us last year when they sold some guys.

The great thing about Q is that they can use him next year and the year after, especially helpful when they get Reyes back and effectively would give them a bang up 1/2 punch at the front of the rotation.

Carlos Martinez as well.
