They can't all make it, but most of this garbage can have a spot if the Sox choose. I could see Covey going to the Charlotte rotation now that he's Sox property.

Covey I bet will be in Charlotte if I had to guess. That would make 12 but I also assume there will be a couple cheap veteran signings for the pen. Also, Petricka is missing (though can't really be counted on to stay healthy but neither can Jones).

We will see a significant amount of players added to that mix.

 

The White Sox will almost certainly be a major player in the Rule 5 draft. They have two open roster spots as of today and they have a large amount of players who could hit the road after the season is over.

 

The White Sox area always a team who is active in signing everything from minor league free agents to major league free agents who are looking for a second, third, or even final chance at a career turn around. It wouldn't shock me to see the White Sox add around half a dozen pitchers in this category alone, most of whom will fail.

 

Finally the Sox still have Avi Garcia and Jose Abreu on the roster, both of whom could ended up being traded in the off season.

I feel comfortable saying they'll be the guaranteed holdovers. I can easily see Infante in fact coming back. And I'd expect 2-3 vets signed but maybe only 1-2 breaking camp.

 

I'll place Fry at 50/50. I think he'll absolutely be up at some point next year, just unsure if he breaks camp.

 

They could also go 8-deep in the pen again like this year. Depends on how much versatility is on the bench between the 2 non-catcher spots.

Staff: Rodon, Giolito, Lopez, Shields and Guerrero (or scrapheap FA like Chatwood or Ross)

 

Pen: Jones, Minaya, Bummer, Goldberg, Danish, Fry and Connor Walsh or Brian Clark

I don't think so. I think the rotation will be much more stable. They will keep Rodon, Lopez and Giolito the whole season and let them learn. Shields is signed and I don't think anyone wants him in a trade so unless he is truly awful they will keep him as well. That's 4 that will be consistent, barring injury. That alone will cut down on the number of changes on the staff.

Well it was what I said along with what the guy above me said.

I think Hahn looks for starters willing to take a ST invite or sign to a minor league deal. No point in signing a starter to be #5 in a development year. Start the season with Rodon, Shields, Lopez, Giolito and Fulmer. I'm not very high on Fulmer but he's shown enough to be the team's #5 to start the season. If Fulmer struggles then he goes to Charlotte when Kopech is ready but if he succeeds, Shields gets bumped to the pen for Kopech.

 

Definitely think the Sox look for more Swarzak type relievers to potentially flip at the deadline.

Santiago is probably done. Was throwing low 80s in rehab starts with the Twins AAA team. Someone may sign him to a minors deal, but his time in the majors may be over.

Yeah, I just remembered the injuries Rodon has dealt with so keeping that in mind it's a good idea to sign or snag a starter from the rule 5.

Considering that Kopech will most likely make his grand appearance sometime mid-season, picking up a guy on a 1 year deal who can either be cut mid-season or traded if the first half is good does fit one of our possible needs.
