January 11, 20188 yr WElcome back MiGo Free-agent RHP Miguel Gonzalez is in agreement with the #WhiteSox on a one-year contract, sources tell The Athletic. Gonzalez had a 4.02 ERA in 268 2/3 innings with the White Sox in 2016-17.— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) January 11, 2018 <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8">
January 11, 20188 yr QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 10:52 AM) I'm okay with this. Better than Covey. Is this a minor league deal? MLB deal.
January 11, 20188 yr QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 11:00 AM) $4.75 million. Not terrible. I feel mildly better about the 5th spot. Not a bad move. We need somebody to go out there and eat 150 innings in 2018, could do worse than Gonzalez.
January 11, 20188 yr With the state of our team I would have preferred to take a flyer on someone else. Oh well
January 11, 20188 yr Author I am somewhat, somewhat surprised he got an MLB deal not gonna lie. Only complaining due to 40 man.
January 11, 20188 yr Love it. Happy to see Miguel back on the south side. Hopefully this means Covey becomes the long relief arm in the pen.

Somewhat surprised he is getting a major league deal as well, but hard to be that upset when we need veteran stability in the rotation. Does Covey get cut?
January 11, 20188 yr No biggie. We know about what he is worth if he is pitching well as a flip. I'm sure he's cheap, and innings will be available.

Does Covey get cut? Pardon my ignorance, but can he be cut since he was a Rule 5 last year? I'm not sure how that works.
January 11, 20188 yr Author QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 11:08 AM) Somewhat surprised he is getting a major league deal as well, but hard to be that upset when we need veteran stability in the rotation. Does Covey get cut? Covey's ability to be either a bad starting pitcher or bad reliever makes him valuable unfortunately. Totally fleeced the rangers getting both Forbes AND miguel for life.
January 11, 20188 yr I think the fact that it is a MLB deal is just goodwill by the organization since they seem to like Miguel.
January 11, 20188 yr Well there's the 5th starter warm body. Cheaper than what it cost us for Holland last year.

Totally fleeced the rangers getting both Forbes AND miguel for life. Haha I hope this is sarcasm^ I don't see how Covey justifies a 40 man roster spot when we have many better options internally
January 11, 20188 yr So the rotation on opening day is shaped up to be: Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Gonzalez, Shields (no specific order)?
January 11, 20188 yr QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 12:21 PM) So the rotation on opening day is shaped up to be: Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Gonzalez, Shields (no specific order)? Yup looks about right. Feels good to have some stability. Barring injuries, MiGo probably goes to the pen when Rodon comes back.
January 11, 20188 yr QUOTE (Scoots @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:27 PM) Yup looks about right. Feels good to have some stability. Barring injuries, MiGo probably goes to the pen when Rodon comes back. Shields could be dropped to the pen also and no one would be mad. Heck, with a rotation that young I wouldn't mind going to a 6 man rotation for a few weeks either if the roster could take it.
