This mentality makes no sense to me. Why do you care about beating the Cubs? They aren't rivals and they're definitely going to the playoffs. Losing to the Cubs is the best thing for the long-term future of the Sox. It's mind boggling that I continue to see this sentiment.

You must not be reading correctly. I want the Cubs to win because it is better  for the Sox. I’m just not going to watch and want the Cubs to win- because fuck them and their fucking fans. If I wanted the Sox to win and screw the draft pick, then I’d be rooting for what’s worse for the Sox...and that’s not what I’m doing. Also, who fucking cares? It’s just baseball and it doesn’t matter who or what fans want this weekend. It’s not going to change the outcome.

While losing right now may be understood, I would also add that the fans have every right to be pissed about it. The losing in 2018 is a direct result of choices the White Sox were making in 2013, 201

But what you want makes absolutely no difference to the outcome of the game.  Why not root for the Sox, enjoy if they win and if they lose, take solace in the draft pick?

I didn't mean to quote flavum. I messed up. I was referring to Zisk's post.

Gotcha.

I have no problem with Sox fans rooting for Sox wins no matter what. Some people don't think that deeply about this stuff, and that's ok too.

Quite frankly, I wish there was a way to do a Draft Lottery that wouldn't put as much on the line with September game outcomes. Like, I wouldn't mind it if teams weren't allowed to have the 1st overall pick twice in a 5-year period, or top 3 picks in back-to-back years...stuff like that. I like that the Sox are all-in on a rebuild, but the MLB fan in me wants rules that discourage it because it's better for the game.

3. Sox 61-93 (Sox magic number)

4. Mia 61-93 (8)

5. SD 62-93 (7)

6. Det 63-92 (7)

Pirates elimination number is 2. When they’re done, you might as well add a loss to the Marlins record.

I don't understand this attitude.  It's fine to want the draft pick more, but they ARE rivals.  To deny that is to be BLIND abt the way life is in Chicago.  Fuck the North Side and fuck their baseball team.  I HATE them - if you don't get this, there's any number of Chicago history books out there to explain it.

Same here, Longshot.

To me the future of the White Sox is most important and not the petty spite of Cub fans.  To me anything else is being more of a Cub hater than a Sox fan.

I agree with this, the happy ground is cheering for the Sox to win but being able to understand a loss is OK too.

On the flip side what someone wants doesn't matter to the actual outcome of the game, so this discussion is just pointless.

I trust our FO has a plan in place to draft the best player at 6 so we can smash the cubs and ruin their fans’ season.

Padres are getting killed. So with one week left...

3. Sox 61-94 (Sox magic number)

4. SD 62-94 (6)

5. Mia 62-93 (6)

6. Det 63-93 (6)

Just keep losing boys!

I’ve jotted down the Sox draft position at the end of each Sunday since May 6th:

3rd

1st for 3 weeks

2nd

4th

3rd for 10 weeks

4th

6th

3rd

4th

3rd

We’ve earned 3rd. Go 2-5 this week.

The Marlins would lose the tiebreaker to all of the Sox, Tigers, and Padres. It’s possible they could jump 3 spots by not playing that last make-up game.

Yep. Like I said, as soon as MLB cancels that game, just add a loss to the Marlins record, because it’s the same thing as not playing.

1-6, clinches 3rd spot

2-5, very likely 3rd spot

3-4 , 50/50 3rd spot

4-3, probably 6th.

Tigers still worry me the most.

Sox- 3 vs Cle, 4 at Min

SD- 3 at SF, 3 vs Arz

Mia- 3 at Was, 3 at NYM, (1 at Pit)

Det- 3 at Min, 3 at Mil

Plain and simple...hope the Sox lose 4, and everyone else wins 2. If that happens, 3rd pick.

Sox can lose 5 and still avoid 100 losses (my personal goal for the team).

How do you figure that?  In this scenario wouldn't the Sox get the higher pick?

Sox 62-100

Miami 62-99

Yes, the Marlins don’t hold the tiebreaker with the Sox, Tigers, or Padres, so them not playing the last game can only help them, not hurt them. So adding a loss with your scenario doesn’t do anything to the order, but you can.

But if it ends up Sox 62-100/ Marlins 61-100, Miami would have a lower winning percentage, and wouldn’t have to play to possibly get the win and knock them down the draft order. So assume the loss there, and they are 61-101.

Five losses and 2 rainout cancellations will also work.

Yeah, I see, I misread the earlier posts and thought Miami had the tie breaker.

MLB hasn’t cancelled the Marlins-Pirates next Monday yet. Wonder if they’re still considering playing it.

And how about this...Ivan Nova could possibly start that game which would earn him 750k for his 30th start.
