  • Toronto must have no faith in him returning to form.  He's still probably worth a look for the minimum by a team in need.

  • Reading the flattering reports on his workout gave me flashbacks of Tim lincecum reports.

He literally did not play at all last year.

Well they still have to pay him.

I can see the cubs taking a flyer on him as they need a guy until Russell is back and they can cut him if it's not working.

They should be fine with Baez at SS and Zobrist/Happ at 2. Bote could probably play SS for a game or two if needed.

Toronto still owes him about $40 million. How done must he be if they don't even want to see if he can recoup some of that?

They paid him $20 million not to play in 2018, $20 million in 2019, $14 million in 2020, and 2015 has a $4 million buyout.

That is $58 million for no games.

Tulo is the gigantic counterpoint to my "big contracts can be traded",

He was traded though from the Rockies. Unless I'm misinterpreting that comment.

Is he even able to play baseball any longer?

When he came up with Rockies, I thought he had HOF written all over him.

The Blue Jays will wind up paying him about $105 million for about a 3.0 WAR. Not even 1,000 plate appearances.

True, but Jays have wanted to move them for a while, cutting him is a "we cannot trade him without sending out more value (cash/prospects) than is worth it to us".

I'd give him a minor league deal...why the heck not?  Maybe he gets healthy and returns to a decent ball player.  Most likely he's toast, but for the league minimum, why not?

Don't forget about insurance. Most likely they paid no more than 50% with insurance covering the rest.

What a shame. Tulo was such a good player. I honestly forgot he was in the league

I think he had a no movement clause which is why he was straight released. I find it hard to believe someone wouldn't have traded for him otherwise.

Kind of hope the Sox explore Tulo at 3B. Who knows I’d hes healthy, but for $550k, why not? Sounds like he wants to go to the west coast, but he’s have a nice opportunity with the Sox to regain some value. Even if the Sox get MM, you either release Tulo or use him as a bench piece until he is needed to fill in the infield.

Thoughts?

Nah. The dude is always hurt and someone will probably give him way more than he is worth. Now if he is secretely bff's with Machado and Harper, thats another story... ???

He is getting the major league min no matter where he goes.

Then no. I don't think Rick wants a stop gap  like that. I think he would just rather roll out Yolmer there if it came down to it. At least he has a future bench role player in our contention period.

For starters, he recently came out and said that he would rather retire than to play a position other than SS, which eventually led to his release (Toronto has Guriel and Bichette ready to fill in at SS).

Several other teams are going to give him a shot at SS, Cubs included. So you will not see Tulo playing 3B for the Sox.

If that was the case, why wouldn't the Blue Jays have simply told him that he can't play SS, and let him retire? Wouldn't that have saved them the $38 Million?
