January 26, 20197 yr Even though he got ridiculous at times, it was Hawk. It was great. Just thinking about no more Hawk makes me miss him. I took it for granted. Thanks for the memories, Ken.
January 26, 20197 yr Don’t miss him but interestingly, he’s the only Sox related person that has penetrated the national audience. I can travel all around the country and non-White Sox fans say “he gone” and “put in on the board...yes”

I prefer broadcasters who attempt to make their viewers smarter about the game, but I understand each person is looking for something different.
January 26, 20197 yr Hawk of the 90s and early 00s sure, recent Hawk not a chance. I'm a big fan of Bennetti and I think the overall broadcast will improve with the influx of talent that's coming (and potentially coming via signings). Won't have to fill dead time of out-of-it beatdown August games with crap for much longer.
January 26, 20197 yr Yeah I miss hawk too. I still get sad when I think about him saying goodbye in his last game. Can't imagine how difficult it was for him to decide to retire after all these years.
January 26, 20197 yr Loved listening to him while I grew up and it was time for him to go. Get him the Frick award while he's alive.
January 26, 20197 yr Speaking of Nostalgia, does anyone else think the making good with Ozzie is a sign he might manage the team again? I think i if Renteria gets whacked Ozzie might be back. Edited January 26, 20197 yr by Jack Parkman
January 26, 20197 yr I've "missed" him for a while. It was a time. I kinda wish Benetti wasn't afraid to pay homage to Hawk. DJ will yell "you can put it on the board...yes!" I'm sure Hawk would be fine with it.
January 26, 20197 yr Can't say that I am. Hawk is around 75 I think, it simply was time to let it go.
January 26, 20197 yr I've always been a Hawk fan but due to some mixture of his old age and the lighter workload, his performance was dropping fast. He's made his mark but it was time for him to go. I like Jason — Steve, not so much.
January 26, 20197 yr I do, all the time. I grew up listening to Hawk. With him, part of my childhood is gone. I can’t stand Benetti. I’ve never been the type to mute the broadcast, but I really might now.

He can be honored by the organization for what he did in his career but he will never manage my team again. I am struggling to think of anyone who burned a bridge that badly on the way out since maybe David Wells. I would feel utterly betrayed by any White Sox GM that hired him.
January 26, 20197 yr Absolutely gonna miss him and am still baffled by the hate he's gotten by Sox fans. Hawk, to me, is like your favorite song from your childhood. It never gets old no matter how many times you hear it. Hearing the same ol hawkisms is like those lyrics you belt out every single time and still get the chills.
January 26, 20197 yr Everyone wanted a guy who would talk about wOBA and we've got one and....... .....its boring. Hawk had lost his juice definitely but this replacement is terrible. Stone sucks too.

I don't really disagree, but you can't doubt he'd be a great manager for this team. I always said he burned that bridge and pissed on the ashes.

Dramatic is the punishment ceremony I want for Rick Hahn after his 2016 season, where the last surviving White Sox fans are wearing cloaks and carrying torches and he is tied up with us surrounding him, we light a moat of oil on fire around him slowly chanting let's go go go white sox as the fires approach.

January 26, 20197 yr To summarize this thread: Hawk great; Ozzie great. Ozzie will never ever manage again. The country is way way way too P.C. now. Nobody in their right mind would take a chance on him. That said ... I worship Oz in a non religious sorta way. An all-time fave.

As has been said before, replace the phrase "too PC" with "treating people who are different with you with respect" and you will understand why Greg is so outraged by this.
