I am picturing this conversation as if it is happening in a bar, and it is fantastic. SS2K5 and Balta are off in a corner shouting big numbers at each other, not even noticing caufield yelling in

Take a guess at how many SS's last year put up a .360 OBP.  I will save you the work.  2. 8 SS's hit .270 or better. 5 SS's hit 25 HR or more. There was literally 1 SS in all of basebal

But he also came back with 60-65 w/ incentives 75-80.

That seems like a huge PR miss to give him all this guaranteed money, and still dick around with the system.

I think they look worse if they send him down and then call him back up before opening day with the only change being his extension.

Theres no time manipulation once he signs.

Olive branch for last season, it seems. That's a lot of money for a guy with no service time.

Maybe he got the number from the player side and that's what they were trying to get.

He's up for Opening Day then, right?

Has he worked on his defense and straightened out his hitting to the White Sox satisfaction?

I would think he would be up. But the Sox would have a hard time explaining his being sent down without being truthful.

So then there is no reason for him to start the season in AAA.

I mean, he did just hit like .150 with a 400 OPS this spring. Keeping him down for a couple weeks when his extended salary this year is probably like 1MM is not a big deal.

I would assume, if it's truely an 8y deal, the last 2 years are team options.

Called the options.

I guessed exactly the years and structure when this discussion started,  including guessing 6/39 for the first 6 years.

I am glad the option years will be significantly smaller than was initially thought.

Does this make sense having 6 years + 2 options. So essentially you just buy 1 year of FA.

So if 8 years (with options), that means the Sox only gain 1 year of extra control over Eloy than if they were to call him up April 26th?

I believe it may be 2y.... Cheaper arb as well.

Lot of guaranteed money to buy out 1 year of free agency.

I would think they are betting on getting arb cheaper.  IMO

They also don't have to worry about Super 2 now.

Hope he's good!

In any case congrats to Eloy and his family. Absolutely outstanding for him especially with where he came from.. which was nothing.

This makes a lot more sense than the 8/100 deal Gomez was originally reporting.

Still odd in a way though, that this only gives him 1 extra year of control. They are basically paying, if Jimenez is still an average or better starter, like maybe a few million dollars for that extra year. So it's worth it, and if he's better than average, it gets even better.

I mean, it's not the Q/Sale crazy win for the sox but it will make the player happy, creates cost certainty through 6 years for hopefully a game changing prospect, and the 7 and 8 years are not team guaranteed so I like it.

Early years a bit more, later years a lot less, and progressively less with each year.

Now if part of this is Eloy being cool with still being called up 4/26, then you have the makings of a very good deal.
