October 31, 20196 yr Interesting. He was a guy I mentioned as being effected by three batter rule as he has terrible splits. RH batters crush him. Maybe the AL east has lots of lefties. Edited October 31, 20196 yr by BamaDoc

October 31, 20196 yr The fact that Boston jumped on him the same day he was released says something. Stats not too bad: ERA of 4.66, 4:1 K to BB ratio, 8.1 K/ 9. Only bad stat: 15 HR in 67 + innings pitched. (Verlander-like ratio ?)

November 1, 20196 yr Not at all a loss. Guy is already 31 with little to no success at the MLB level. Sox can do better for a 3rd lefty option out of the pen. Great to see the 40-man getting trimmed rather quickly.

Maybe they are planning on adding 10 guys in the Rule 5 draft. Edited November 1, 20196 yr by Timmy U

Point is, the Sox 40 man had a lot of really bad players on it. Probably farther from contending than they think.

But he’s got a great arm, throws left handed and is still just 26. Of all the guys you listed, he is definitely the safest, I’d be surprised to see him outrighted or DFAd this winter. He’s the first lefty reliever depth piece after Bummer and Fry with Osish now gone. But ya, point remains. Sox 40 man is effectively at like 27/28 guys who will be there after ST.
November 1, 20196 yr Haven't removed anyone surprising but what do you guys think is the reasoning behind such deep cuts? Must be clearing space for some reason.

They had to add three guys from the 60 day DL and they’ll have to protect a half dozen prospects in the coming month or so.
