Interesting.  He was a guy I mentioned as being effected by three batter rule as he has terrible splits.  RH batters crush him.  Maybe the AL east has lots of lefties.

What’s this new three batter rule?

Pitching changes now will require facing at least 3 batters??

Yes, unless facing fewer ends an inning.

He was on my non-tender list, so not too concerned.

That’s a huge change all in the name of speeding up the game... not sure I’m a fan.

I'm a fan, one out specialists suck. I'd prefer two, but I'm fine with three.

The fact that Boston jumped on him the same day he was released says something.

Stats not too bad:  ERA of 4.66,  4:1 K to BB ratio,  8.1 K/ 9.

Only bad stat: 15 HR in 67 + innings pitched. (Verlander-like ratio ?)

It's not ALL in the name of speeding up the game. It' also benefits the hitters and we all know offense is more attractive to fans than great pitching .

You must not consider right handers .903 OPS against him a bad stat.

He sucks vs righties.

Failed starters like Fulmer might take on extra value for their ability to face multiple hitters.

The Chaim Bloom era is off to a roaring start.

He will probably be released by Boston before the offseason is over.

1 more open spot

Not at all a loss. Guy is already 31 with little to no success at the MLB level. Sox can do better for a 3rd lefty option out of the pen. Great to see the 40-man getting trimmed rather quickly.

Sox 40 man at 32, I could imagine them getting it to 25 if they non-tender Yolmer, outright Frare, Ruiz, Vieira, Meideros, Palka, and Zavala. Maybe they are planning on adding 10 guys in the Rule 5 draft.

Frare will definitely be safe. Others maybe not.

Agree to disagree.  Frare was horrific this past year.  Don’t know what happened to him, but it was rough.

Point is, the Sox 40 man had a lot of really bad players on it.  Probably farther from contending than they think.

Frare was in fact awful this year. Both in the bigs and AAA. But he’s got a great arm, throws left handed and is still just 26. Of all the guys you listed, he is definitely the safest, I’d be surprised to see him outrighted or DFAd this winter. He’s the first lefty reliever depth piece after Bummer and Fry with Osish now gone.

But ya, point remains. Sox 40 man is effectively at like 27/28 guys who will be there after ST.

Haven't removed anyone surprising but what do you guys think is the reasoning behind such deep cuts?  Must be clearing space for some reason.

They had to add three guys from the 60 day DL and they’ll have to protect a half dozen prospects in the coming month or so.
