Cease right now is as untouchable as a player can be on the White Sox.  Kopech is not even in the team photo, literally.

Trading Kopech at his literal lowest value since his early Boston days, after we just recouped a full year of service time, seems like......a really stupid decision.

I’d trade Cease for someone as good as Lynn. Cease will likely never be as good.

The problem with this is Cease doesn't need to be as good as Lynn in one individual season; not even close. 

Lynn has 1 year + 1 month left of control. His value is projected around 4-5 fWAR. 

Let's give PV (Present value) fWAR an increase in value of roughly .4 times - just because the Sox could technically win this year with their roster.

That means, Lynn's fWAR is worth roughly 7 fWAR on the high side. He's making roughly 12 million over that time; a nice 1.7 million per WAR. A heck of a bargain.

Cease is projected to be woth 2 fWAR next year and .3 the rest of the way this year. Putting his PV at 3.22 fWAR at a cost under 2 million. .62 million per fWAR. Obviously we need to give greater weight to the 7 fWAR over the 3, but the value in their deals aren't that far off. The major difference is while Cease has 3.22 fWAR in PV, and Lynn has 7, Cease has roughly +9 addition fWAR in FV. Putting his entire deal at 12.22 fWAR compared to Lynn's 7. Even with the emphasis on PV, there isn't enough value difference between the two to warrant even a straight up swap IMO.

You are acting as if projections are facts. When it comes to a player who has established himself and what he can do then I can understand giving some emphasis to projections but when it comes to a young guy, especially a starter, projections don't mean anything. What was Giolito's projections after 2018? Cease is our best arm and he is only going to keep getting better.

Kopech is healthy and still considered a top 20 prospect in the game.  He has plenty of value right now and could realistically be the centerpiece of a deal for a good MLB player.  Now Reynaldo Lopez, his trade value is at its lowest.

For the record, no Madrigal in the starting line up today.  Yoan and Mendick both still in.

I didn't say Kopech didn't have value.  I said its at its lowest since his early Boston days, to which I still believe.  Dude hasn't thrown a competitive pitch in 2 years.

His value is still hurt because possible makeup and mental health issues are looming, there even were rumors he would maybe quit the game. Not having pitched in two years also hurts value.

He still has decent trade value but his value at this time certainly is compromised.

His value could drop more (if he gets hurt again or doesn't perform) but it also could get a lot higher of he comes back and shows that he is healthy and performing.

That was a freak injury Madrigal suffered on the throw from Avi. Hope he has gotten his bad luck out of the way getting hurt in his fifth MLB game. I kind of like him and Mendick. We need some singles hitters to go with our bombers.
