a part of PD is giving a guy a chance to get there. i know you don't think so, and you think every MLB decision is made solely about winning every single match-up and batter but it's just not true.

i also think a part of PD is getting a guy out of there feeling good abotu himself too, so this was a two way street. I can see both sides of this one.

1st start in a long time back off of TJ. You might have a point if this was mid-season and you’re looking for Dunning to take the next step...we’re still on step 1 with a young pitcher. No need for a test right away

I am requesting that start times be included in game threads.  It used to be standard.

Third time through on Mize coming up. Wonder what his pitch limit is tonight.

yeah, and how do you get him used to a 3rd time thru, or see how his stuff plays a third time thru with some fatigue without trying it.

People on here make decisions based on maximizing every run and win; it's just not how managers or teams manage games.

agreed. This is better for the future starts of Dunning and he looks like a guy that can be really important later in the season.

Just coming out to start the 5th was seeing if he could get it back (and I'm fine with that part too).

He proceeded to give up a hit, a 104MPH screamer that should have been a hit, and then a walk.

RR hung him out to dry

The hit was on a terrible 0-2 hanger, then a rocket at his head and proceeded to walk the 9 hitter on 4 pitches. Everything screamed he was done, especially with how great Foster has been.

The best Sox games are the ones where Rentetia is a complete non-factor.

Not seen.

Not heard

Hopefully we can see the offense pick him up

Dane Dunning is not 12 months removed from TJ. He is 16? months removed from TJ.

The White Sox NEEEED to stretch out Dane Dunning if they want him to start. They cannot stretch him out in simulated games as a rookie who has never made a MLB start; it just won't work that way as well. Part of building up arm strength is throwing through fatigue.

Its utterly amazing that 9 out of 10 posters on here could see this, yet our manager couldnt. We have the worst manager in the MLB.  He has cost this team at least 2 games already this year, and this might be the 3rd

Collins into the RF corner!

Stone kept pounding the table for "Dunning is getting tired" and again it felt like it was not only obvious but it felt like it was taking shots at Renteria for not seeing it

The problem is the sox only have two guys who really can go more than 5 and if Rick pulled every starter that was in trouble in the 4th or 5th that would burn out the pen pretty quickly.

This is losing games but the sox are already 6th in bullpen innings in the AL and the only good teams ahead of them are the Rays and As who have much deeper pens.

A quicker hook would win more games but the sox don't really have the quality pen depth behind the top 3 guys do do that consistently and they also don't have the starters except keuchel who can give them 8 to give the pen a breather.

Rick certainly makes some mistake but the way that pitching staff is constructed including all the injuries you simply need to sometimes just hope the best to squeeze out another inning.

Our hero has returned to the plate. Lets see what he can do for us.
