Yermin was already the people's champ but this will only cement it further. I'm sure hell get big love next PA in guaranteed rate (unless tony sits him forever)

I'm torn on Mercedes hitting that HR in that situation.  Part of me is fine with it.  The other part of me wishes he would have hit it farther.

Since about 2001, the Minnesota Twins franchise has had no problem piling on the Sox at every opportunity. They also were more than happy to manipulate the airflow to their own benefit in that oversiz

perhaps we should dust off those posts about how tony tended to have very public, toxic feuds with players on his team. I was worried about TA, but maybe trying to scape goat the rookie who has carried this team through some injuries is unwise.

Lol it will be handed in house....after alerting the media

While I don't have an issue with Mercedes in the general sense of the situation, I do have a problem with him ignoring the take sign from his coach.

Looking at signs probably isn’t high on the priority list with a position player pitching in a blowout

Don't care. Then he is wrong in neglecting to to his job. You still listen to the coach.

Tony isn't going to feed Yermin's kids when he stops swinging

The problem is that Tony's conception of "sportsmanship" is not in tune with today's game.

Tony's conception of "sportsmanship" is be sure to take your 'roids.

Thibs was able to keep buy in from his players despite riding them into the ground for as long as he did by never selling them out in public. Tony should do the same. This is about feeding Tony’s ego, nothing to do with real discipline.

Do you have a problem with a coach publicly running over his star rookie in the media?

That's fine. Mercedes still needs to listen to his coach.

Personally, I would prefer it behind closed doors but with the media and fans today wanting more transparency and information I think those old school days are gone too.

Twitter seems to largely disagree with TLR.  Heyman and Passan are two of the more well-known names defensing Yermin.

Not following a sign from the dugout is an issue.  But TLR could have just left it at that.  Instead he had to go all lame old school and soft and squishy and apologize to the other team...AND say all that bullshit publicly.

Pineda not pitching today or tomorrow.

I wish that was the case...but we can't have it both ways. Well apparently LaRussa wants it that way.

It’s possible Tony said those things publicly to lessen the likelihood of any “revenge” pitches possibly injuring our guys. I don’t think it’s likely, but it’s a thought.

STRETCH!

Sure you do. Everyone wants everything out in the open and the media go after it until they get a response. It is gone. There is nothing behind closed doors anymore.

Point still remain as much as you want to deflect this to TLR. Mercedes should listen to the coach and there should be accountability when he doesn't.

D STRETCH? Sounds painful.

Based on Tony’s statements today, it sounds like he would be more at home in the Twins broadcast booth than in the White Sox clubhouse.

My point is LaRussa is now "new school" and wants to be transparent with the media....but is still going to play it old school not swinging on 3-0 because SPORTSMANSHIP!

All he had to say was "we talked about it" or "no comment" and say whatever he wanted to behind closed doors.  This is the worst of both worlds.

no. That wasn't the discussion. You asked that during a different discussion. The discussion was did Mercedes do something wrong by not listening to the coach. You interjected a different discussion about TLR making the public statements. I answered your question, you continue to deflect from the original discussion.
