He's a freaking 1 year rental at 2B. It can't cost that much. The original asking price was Vaughn. I don't think it's the end of the world if nothing happens. It's not like they tried. This is an unusual situation for any organization. How many winning teams are trading from a position of weakness? That is where they are at right now. Social media is all about attention. It's like DUH! they are trying to get certain pieces. Yet we pay attention to all of these tweets as if there is some truth to them. If nothing happens don't blame Hahn. Either the price was too high or the other team isn't interested in what's offered.

If the White Sox don't make moves, and they're knocked out of the playoffs by the Astros in round 1 with Heuer on the mound getting shelled or after an error by Leury, you darn well better blame Rick Hahn. Unless LaRussa is actually making GM decisions, then you blame whoever made that call.

Whether that's for being unwilling to trade the prospect capital to make the obvious upgrades this team needs, or allowing the farm system to reach a point where it's so baron they couldn't even trade for adequate players that are 2 months from free agency. You'd have to pick one of those choices. We all know Leury isn't good enough to be plan A at 2B for a World Series contender.
July 27, 20214 yr I’ll be honest, I’ll be livid if we enter October with Leury as our starting 2B. That is 100% unacceptable for a team trying to win a World Series. If he gets injured then we’re starting Mendick everyday with Tim Beckham as our reserve infielder. At a bare minimum, we have to add another infielder to mix for depth purposes. Also, Fegan basically confirmed the Sox aren’t stretching out Kopech because he’s too important to the bullpen right now. It’s terrifying that we might compromise his ability to start next year because the rest of the pen underperformed. We better get two relievers between now and Friday and let Kopech make some starts down the stretch.

You can only hope the offense is firing on all cylinders. The bullpen is a dart board with consistency. A veteran arm is needed there. We also assume everyone will be healthy. Too many IFs for this season.

This ^ Many of us pointed out how thin the team was on Opening Day -- the position they're in now is related to that, both in terms of their on-field needs (not signing depth in the offseason) and the fact that they have nothing in the upper minors to move (having called everyone up to be the depth they didn't sign). You can say they "tried" and be correct if they spent their money, but they didn't -- we're still right in the middle of the payroll pack where we were before the rebuild began.

You'd hope someone would be interested in Lopez or Stiever. All of the so called farm studs are either playing or on IL.

July 27, 20214 yr Hosmer is a guy who goes opposite field a lot right? Feel like he would make sense on the Red Sox in Fenway, who don't get a lot of production at 1B as is. Not at his full salary of course, though it was a more front-loaded deal. Edited July 27, 20214 yr by manbearpuig

You realize Crochet is just turned 22 about a month ago and had zero time in the minors to develop before being tossed into a MLB bullpen, right? The stuff is there, and with further development he could become really valuable.

I bet he'll move for about what we expect within a day of the deadline.
July 27, 20214 yr Anyone advocating for trading Heuer in a deal for a non elite reliever would regret it once he's somewhere else and regresses back to a normal BABIP again

Hosmer's only value, at this point, is to an early-stage rebuilder, with 1B ABs to spare, who can take his contract to get some prospects along with it.
July 27, 20214 yr Trading MLB relievers for other MLB relievers would be a really sad and bad deadline strategy.
