Wish I could read it LOL

basically just says during a tourney in Mexico he defected and that this is a problem for Cuba that happens all the time during international youth games and is embarrassing. Looks like he hit 356 this year with an OPS of 961 in his age 23 season. Not sure how much of a prospect he is, probably more of a B level guy.

This is what google translate gives.

Cuban player Geisel Cepeda became the twelfth player to leave the Cuban team during his participation in the III U-23 Baseball World Championship in Mexico.

The 23-year-old Cuban prospect had to join the Mochis team, in the Aztec country, but he will not fulfill that contract, as confirmed by journalists Yordano Carmona from Pelota Cubana and Jorge Ebro from El Nuevo Herald.

Cepeda decided not to board the plane back to Cuba on October 3, thereby breaching his contract, which will no longer be effective.

So far he has been the last to desert and refuse to return to the island. The rest of the team is scheduled to return to Cuba tomorrow, Monday, October 4.

As reported by sports journalist Francisco Romero, Cepeda will seek a contract in the Major Baseball League (MLB) of the United States.

During the U-23 World Championship, there was an exodus of Cuban players who, together with the Spaniard, is the 12th player to leave the squad, which means that 50% of the Cuban team escaped during the sporting event.

The first to leave the squad was Luis Dany Morales, on September 21.

The 18-year-old prospect escaped the control of the leaders of the Cuban delegation at the Mexico airport, immediately arriving in that country when the team arrived to play the championship.

While the last to escape, before Cepeda, were Loidel Chapellí Jr. Zulueta, 19, and Yandy Yanes Nembhar, 23, from Camagüey.

Both fled yesterday, Saturday, October 2, leaving the national team in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

The scandal that has been generated as a result of the Cuban players' escapes during their stay in the Aztec country has become a topic in all the information media both in Cuba and outside of it, as well as the ridicule caused by the situation in social networks.

The truth is that it is not known what measures the Cuban authorities can take, both with the managers in charge of security during the trip, and with the rest of the players.

It has also been speculated that it is possible that in the following trips of Cuban sports teams abroad, the security protocols will be even more strict, to avoid the abandonment of their members.

The abandonment of baseball players in Mexico comes only a few months after something similar happened during the Pre-Olympic Tournament that was played in Florida, USA. On that day, three players and the team's psychologist left the national team.

White Sox are in a weird spot. They should have somewhere in the neighborhood of $5.3 million to spend. $3.7 million of that is committed to Oscar Colas and Erick Hernandez. They should have just over $1.5 million to play with and they likely have some signings already in the $400-$600K range that I don't know of.

Never heard of this Hernandez fellow.  Read his MLB pipeline report and it's glowing.  What do you know/think?

If Cuba actually reformed things and became a democracy, would Havana be a good spot for an MLB franchise?

That’s a whole lot of if, but it wouldn’t be much more travel than a trip to Miami. I’d imagine they could draw better attendance numbers than most teams but who knows how much money there is (merchandise, tv, etc.) in the Cuban/Caribbean market

I hadn't heard of him before Jesse Sanchez's write up but it's exactly the type of signing they should be making every year. I'm told it's about $1 million.
