Freddie Freeman is a free agent right now, shouldn't they be putting more of their attention there?

Maybe. Id say the Sox degree of pressing need is an order of magnitude higher.

  • Yes, Leury is a good player to have on the roster. Nice to have, trust the process, etc. I believe that the White Sox intend to get a better second baseman still. Here's the problem, as I see it:

You are not familiar with a lot of rosters then, because there are a lot worse players than Leury Garcia pulling down paychecks in MLB.  With 750 roster slots out there, there is a ton of mediocrity and worse getting MLB jobs.

Not as a starter, which Leury is despite a lot of guys here being blind to it

I’m not the biggest Leury fan in the world but this is misleading. He was atrocious in the first couple years of his career but has improved substantially since then.

He had an 82 wRC+ in 2019 when he played 140 games. He had a 98 wRC+ this year and a 98 wRC+ in 2017. I don't know if he's really improve substantially. His plate discipline is a little better. Just my thoughts.

might mean they're going with the kids at 2B and RF.

Um… why?

What else they say

Just pushing the narrative that our payroll is already at an all time high and we extended Lance Lynn already so that was pretty much a FA signing. After seeing the contracts the big FAs got, no chance the Sox we’re going to be involved. Preaching the don’t judge the off season til it’s over. And yes floating the idea of Vaughn at second.

If there are injuries and the starter you brought in poops the bed… sure he is then.

If you think he’s barely a serviceable bench guy, your standards might be a little too high for bench players.

Also, where are you seeing that he’s the starter at 2B?

Logic.  He has started like all of the playoff games and started most all games where he has been healthy.   They signed him to be a starter.

lol, this is really nice of Arcia, but this seems so annoying. Is it like a checkbox on the contract? Do the braves, right before you sign, ask "would you like to donate 1% of your contract to our charity?" and stare at you the whole time?

Just like a billion dollar company like Jewel asking for a donation at checkout.

He started the playoffs because the guys who were supposed to start bombed out.  This is literally why he is on the roster.

They won't sign any other starter at 2B or RF (whichever they want Leury to start at).

Because most of the players were out for most of the season and he was filling in for them.

Only if you are blind do you believe this.  He was always gonna start

Yeah because Goodwin sucked down the stretch and got hurt and Cesar sucked also

Why spend 5 million a year on a back up? in case Romy  and Gavin  and Jake fail. You wouldn't spend that kind of money for a

back up if you sign Semian or Taylor or Conforto. At least the Sox wouldn't.

Someone on Spanish Twitter is claiming it’s a 16.3 million dollar deal. Just based on the number… I believe him.

Which is exactly why having Leury, Romy, and even more available is important. Because the odds of this team having a good number of injuries next year remain high.

Makes sense, not awful

RF: Gavin, Engel, Vaughn.......

2B: Romy....

Give me all those guys at those positions over Leury

I think they’re spending 5 million on a backup because they did.

Seems about right for Leury.

Sure… in 2015-2019.

Yeah cause those guys would have hit McCullers well

Let's see who has egg on their face when Leury starts opening day.  Then after the all star break.   Then in the playoffs.   Cheap is cheap and they going cheap
