I think we make a solid effort and have an edge in case of ties.

There is no room in the budget or the rotation for Rodon. He gone. Sharpie it in.

Need to know what happens with Kimbrel and perhaps Keuchel before I say we don't have the money.  I would prefer to use Sheets, Vaughn, Engel, and Garcia in RF and spend the money at 2nd and pitching.  I understand your liking of Conforto but we already have the guys I mentioned and they need to play somewhere.

RIP Luis Robert's legs.

And who are you spending money on to play 2B if you aren’t upgrading RF?

Do you guys think there is any chance the wsox bring back rodon? I really liked watching him

They would like to bring him back on a 1 yr deal but some team will likely give him multi years and they will regret the absolute hell out of it.

I suspect a trade will happen.  Marte would be top of the list but probably untouchable.  One of the Mets guys is more probable.  I think Vaughn & Sheets would put up mega numbers and with Engel filling in after we put away the opposition...the defense isn't half as alarming as some here think.  As I've said before on here...Vaughn & Sheets have to play somewhere and unfortunately, we already have the DH covered and then some.  I know some will say trade Vaughn & Sheets for something we need but they will come back to haunt us IMO.

Mets would be a good fit

Don’t you think Vaughn would likely go in a deal for Marte?

Yep...and that would annoy me since they already took away Madrigal.  However, Marte if available would be a great fit.

Sox would have to eat at minimum half of Keuchel deal to move him. Not happening. He’s a fine 5. Sox let Rodon walk because they don’t want him. I get the angle on SP over RF, just doesn’t make sense based on How they handled Rodon.   All those guys you listed will still get plenty of play with a RF like Conforto on the roster. We don’t have a LF either. If you wanna call Eloy one, then we don’t have a DH. We also don’t have a 2B atm which Leury is certain to play plenty of.

I don’t think Sox should punt off Sheets either because lets be honest, Sox have a serious deficit of lefty sticks and at bats to go around. He also has 2 options, so flexibility is on our side. But Sheets isn’t a guy that’s going to haunt anyone. Could he hit 25-30 homers? Yeah probably. But he can’t do much else. I know you’re a sheets guy and I get the love, but dude is nothing more than a no defense platoon DH with low upside. Again, he’s useful. But we shouldn’t be penciling him into anything but a depth role.

Dodgers make a ton of sense to me. Any contender that has rotation depth but needs high quality innings rather than an innings eater type would seem like a good fit for him.

Don't see how he can sign a 1 year deal for less than the qualifying offer given what Syndergaard, Verlander, & Stroman (on a 3 year deal) all signed for. If the tax goes up at all I think big market contenders would gladly scoop him up on a 1 year deal for well above 18M if that's the market he's looking at.

My guess based on his agent continues to be that he’ll get a couple years with an opt out after 1. For example, 3/$50, with the first year worth a little less than the others could be plausible.

As of right now, Spotrac has the Dodgers luxury tax payroll at $232 million. This is in the second tier of the owners’ proposed penalties, where the Dodgers would owe about $14 million in luxury tax and lose their second round pick. They also have not resigned Kershaw.

Adding in Keuchel would almost certainly push the Dodgers into the highest tier of the proposed luxury tax, costing them their first round pick and a total cost of $40 million to take on his full contract if I’ve understood the tax proposal correctly (I think the 100% tax rate applies to everything over the tax line, I could be wrong on that).

If I’ve got this right…Dallas Keuchel for $40 million and a 1st round pick…is pricey.

I think the Sox can like Rodon without wanting to pay him at QO prices.  Just depends on what Rodon is worth in the eyes of the league.  I'm sure we won't be signing him if the price is 20 per year for 3 years but he might be that guy.  If we could sign him for 2 at 16 that's another story.

FYI, saw an interview Nightengale did with David Kaplan where he said Sox main focus should be pitching (getting a 1 or 2).  Also said Sox have never seemed too worried about finding guys to plug in at 2nd.

I think RF and SP should be the priority.  I think a 2B should be added, but we don’t need to blow a huge chunk of resources on the position.

Yup, 2B should be the easiest hole to fill.

If we're talking about former Sox farmhands that pitch for the A's that the Sox should acquire, why not Frankie Montas?

I'd far prefer Montas to Bassit but with the extra year Montas has he'd be far more expensive.
