Yes.  This should have been avoided at all costs.

It's Keuchel, Kopech and Cease/Cueto in NY.

Ah, my bad.

Kopech had another kid?  Quick turnaround from the divorce, hope he's in a better place.

He's definitely less public about it. Probably a good thing.

Yeah, good on him for getting off all socials, nobody needs to pay attention to that vitriol.

My coworker asked if I wanted to go see a game this weekend at Yankees Stadium.

I'll be catching a Brooklyn Cyclones game instead.

I don't blame you one bit.

  • Cheaper
  • I know the mascot
  • Less pain
  • Coney Island

So it's only temporary, but right now the White Sox's starting rotation is:

Cease, Keuchel, Cueto, Velasquez, Martin.

Keuchel has a career 2 ERA against the Yankees in 10 starts. For whatever reason, they've historically struggled against him.

Yea Yankees struggle against southpaws without elite stuff oddly enough. Keuchel has historically owned them too. Ironically enough probably our best bet to win out of all of them.

You're a catcher? Can you hit too?

They’ve got a roster built around sluggers. They’re great fastball hitters and a lot of the “stuff” pitchers are more or less two-pitch fastball and slider guys. Many of the hitters on their roster can more or less sit fastball and wait to punish that or a hanging slider. If Keuchel is on his game then you have to work with something outside of that “mash fastball” comfort zone. Line drive hitters can mostly adjust their approach but a lot of the Yankees power guys only have one way to operate.

And maybe Cueto at 90-92 and not the hot gun in KC.  Might be worth a shot to try to get a surer Cease victory next time out.  Of course that's a bit of a loser's mentality for Cease to deliberately avoid the Yankees. He likely would face them again in the playoffs.  Therefore he needs to build up his confidence that he can at least record a QS against them.

I was kidding in another thread by quoting Jim Mora, but seriously, what indication is there that this is a playoff team?  Blind faith?  They've been .500 since last July in a sample size > 100 games.  This is beginning to look like who they are.  To me, baseball's a lot like hockey:  Don't tell me who your 5 best players are, tell me the 5 worst guys who get a lot of playing time.  Half the Sox roster won't be in MLB 2 years from now.  They're 29th in runs scored and can't defend.  Their starting pitching has been good, but they can't strike out 27 guys a night.  Cease ducking the Yankees is fine.  It'll help him in arbitration after they finish 82-80.
