  • With the Sox picking or signing so many guys out of Arkansas, I'm a little disappointed that they let the Mets grab razorback Zebulon Vermillion...now that's a damn 80 grade name.

That’s 80 grade baseball name and 80 grade cartoon villain name.  That’s just outstanding work.

I figured we'd need to save more than 400K to get both Pallette and Cannon.

We also get the extra 5% we can go over the total by just paying a penalty, which adds about another $300k ish.

In theory, assuming there are no other overages in the 10+ round range, the Sox could go to about $1.5 for Pallette and $1m for Cannon and be right against that 5%.

Can't believe Turner made more than Mad Mario

I notice no 10K guys in the top 10.  The college seniors drafted this year did seem like an upgrade from previous editions.

9. Michael Turner $157,700 $35,000 +122,700

10. Tim Elko $149,500 $35,000 +$114,500

11. Jacob Burke N/A $225,000 -$100,000

12. Brooks Baldwin

13. Mason Adams

14. Shane Gilbert

15. Billy Seidl

16. Tristan Stivors

17. Nick Altermatt

18. Bryce Willits

19. Drake Logan

20. Ethan Hammerberg N/A $100,000 no cap impact

CURRENT CAP IMPACT

$406,500 UNDER CAP

The White Sox pool is $6,289,100. They can go to $6,603,555.

They currently appear to have about $2,475,655 left in the pool. That leaves plenty of room to give Peyton Pallette $1.5 million and Cannon something in the $800-$900K range. I think Brooks Baldwin might be over as well though.

Why do those two guys have so much leverage?

Sox likely floated them to their spot with bonus numbers. Pallette wasn't just suddenly available at 62. He made a deal with the Sox. I just don't know what the exact number is.

Because they could have been much higher picks if the Sox didn't make them a draft day bonus promise.

I really love the Pallette pick.

Assuming no other overages from the 12-20th rounds, this leaves the Sox another $65,100 from the regular bonus pool, plus $314,454 that they can pull in by going just under the 5% over their cap before incurring a draft pick penalty.

When added to his slot, that leaves the Sox up to $975,854 to sign Cannon with.

I'm waiting to see what Whisenhunt signs for.

$252,600 OVER CAP, $61,854 FROM (up to) 5% MAX

With the top 11 picks signed, there is the situation left at hand.  Not much left to sign, but we have just over $60k extra we could use for any over $125k bonuses for either rounds 12-19 picks, or for any NDFAs.

Now we need to get these guys playing, other than Pallette, of course.

Ok that makes sense.  If he signed for slot or even close I would've said WTF why did they pass on him.  $800k over I still would've given it a lot of thought but I get why they didn't do it.

Sox Machine has everyone signed with their bonuses listed.
