Fire Rick Hahn

Th other thing I question is even if somehow Hahn and KW left, how attractive would this job be? Would anyone new have to keep Pedro and Getz and all the coaches and non development staff? If so, what kind of quality candidate would be interested?

He was neutered with LaRussa, but he still was able to f*** up a lot more. JR was able to get LaRussa the A’s job. He won’t be able to find Hahn a GM job unless it’s for some youth travel team.

Should be the most attractive job in the world.  You basically get 10 years until you’ll be held to any level of accountability and compete against the biggest group of loser franchises in all of sports.  Sure, Jerry sucks and creates certain constraints, but any competent baseball person would look at this job as a goldmine if they are the head baseball decision maker (i.e. KW gone as well).

It’s funny, the consensus has shifted from all the bad decisions we’re KW and JR overruling Hahn to now they all are Hahn, and hopefully KW gets more involved. I will say KW was better than Rick, but that’s not saying much. The house needs to be cleaned out.

If you can put together an average team you should be a contender. These dopes can’t even do that.

Both need to go because both have failed to build a quality top-to-bottom baseball org in the modern game.  However, KW can actually scout and had built a great pro scouting function when he was running things.  I feel much better with KW leading our selling trades than Rick, especially if that’s all we have him focused on right now.

Unless they’re being seriously underpaid (possible), this will still look like a decent job. A rebuild is required, but they’re able to spend money and there’s generally good job security. Unless the owner insists on things that are unrealistic (turning around this mess in 2 years), it’s an opportunity to build an org from scratch. You can even just wait out Grifols contract and then bring in your own guy fresh once you’ve built up the organization elsewhere.

Yeah I'm not celebrating KW having more input and he should be right out the door with Hahn. 2005 was 18 years ago and most of the time since then has been awful.

And after the Royals passed on the guy despite their own opening.

Considering the Sox could have a FO-manager tandem of Dombrowski/Francona for the majority of JR's tenure if they hired inward, it's hard for me to see this as a bad thing.

Doesn't absolve Pedro, but just pointing it out.

They aren’t going full rebuild. JR will give him or her a mediocre budget and expect to win.

Beyond new ownership, Kenny retiring as scheduled (2023) and a new quality external EVP / President of Baseball Operations is hired in October - November is the best case scenario for Sox fans.

Kim Ng is the only external candidate I can think of who has worked a number of years under Jerry that would possibly take the job as a promotion if she is interested. Perhaps there are one or two more that Jerry would hire are out there, would let the process play out.

If Hahn and or Kenny stay on as an "advisor" than I don't think it will work, jerry will still listen to "his guys". Both need to retire or be expunged, and all of Hahn's Michigan s%*# also need to be flushed down the toilet.

Would like to see Brooks Boyer flushed down the toilet as well so as not to f*** up baseball operations on top of everything he fucked up as "Chief Revenue Officer".

If you are in a situation where you have to keep Chris Getz and all his people to develop players, you are most likely to fail even if you make good international signings and drat decently. Obviously, those jobs are limited, and sometimes you have to take what you can get, but if you are one of the better candidates, wouldn’t you wait for better situation? Maybe JR has had enough of these guys, realizes they ccannot choose the correct players. Realizes any player that is developed seems to have been pretty advanced when acquired, and really lets a new hire clean house. I have no confidence that is the case.

The odds are that any GM they bring in will outlast him.

That’s all it takes.  Rick had a $185M budget to work with and blew it.  That takes a special kind of incompetence.

Rick Hahn spoke of “winning the division and doing some damage in the postseason” and having the “best record in the division since May 1st” the last time he spoke to the media.

Stay tuned for more BS and spin this Tuesday before the Cubs game.

The good news with a KW taking over I seriously don’t think he wants to do the heavy lifting of that job anymore and would be likely to hire a replacement. The replacement has a high chance of being bad, but it will be someone else.

When did I miss KW taking over?

KW is taking over? We can narrow down who he’s targeting. Who is 38 and going to be a future hall of famer?

  • Author

Let KW handle the deadline.  Formally let Hahn go in October.  Immediately hire Mike Chernoff to be our President of Baseball Ops.  Let him rebuild the front office as he see fits, but hopefully that means Haber, Getz, & KW JR amongst many others go.  Fire the entire coaching staff even if it costs money.  Accept that 2024 & 2025 could be very ugly, but do the right things to build sustained success.  This is the way and it all starts with Rick being relieved of his duties.

Gonna need someone to pitch after these trades....are there any former Cy Young winners languishing in another team's AAA?
