Coincidentally I have a lot of tickets to offload on people that probably don’t exist

Blum, Geoff. 2005 lone TDL acquisition. Most Sox fans were pissed about that too.

That team was like 25 games over .500 at the break, don’t give me that shit.

Fans were still upset Blum was the only acquisition. Despite the record, no one at the time believed they were as good as their record. I remember it well.

'Refuse to lose' isn't as catchy as 'Strive mightily to win'! ?

5) Twins
The Twins did what you want your first-place teams to do. They added, bringing in a starter (Tyler Mahle) and two key bullpen pieces in Jorge López and Michael Fulmer. Nothing there that knocks your socks off, but guys who should help them hang on to their lead in the American League Central.

One of the reasons for that? The two teams they are fighting for that division title didn’t do much of anything. The Guardians didn’t make a single move other than trading Sandy León to Minnesota, of all teams, and all the White Sox did was add reliever Jake Diekman. This is going to be a tight race down the stretch. One team made itself better. The other two didn’t bother.

16.5 game lead too, nearly lost our lead and our fifth starter ran out of gas. Fans were right then too, always are, vs the people that pump sunshine into this shit group.

And the trades that were rumored and that the fans wanted were insane, such as anything and everything for Joe Randa, and Contreras et al for headcase Sonny Burnett.

The problem here was Hahn’s massive eff-up in the free agent market in December  2021.

Yes, I remember that. Most of the guys the fans wanted that year totally flamed out.

Feels like you’re leaving out a key detail.

Miami instead of Pittsburgh.

Was thinking of Josh Beckett, too.

Any prospect traded for Joe Randa surely would have panned out to be a superstar, I agree.  Glad they held onto those prospects

Probably would have included Brandon McCarthy or Gio Gonzalez in a Burnett trade.

Seems like the failure to get an agreement on an international draft, resulting in the continued existence of the qualifying offer, impacted this trade deadline.

Carlos Rodon and Wilson Contreras almost certainly would have been moved if their teams couldn't get draft pick compensation for them.

Prospects are nice.

Parades are better.

They would have reacquired Gio it’s fine

I fail to see the sliding doors trade in 2005 that would have led to them losing the World Series opportunity, and also would have made the post World Series run much worse. 1 ALDS loss would have been compromised oh noes

Adding good players to your team is the best way to improve your chances. I don’t know how this is even debatable.

Fluke home runs are such memorable moments because they are, well, flukes, and 9 times out of 10 they don’t happen. Good luck should be celebrated, not praised.
