December 9, 20223 yr I got to be honest, baseball kind of sucks when the Mets can roll with a +$300M payroll. Really fucking lame.

Every team can afford the contract Nimmo just signed. What is the point of being a billionaire, owning a baseball team, & not doing everything possible to try and win?

The competitive balance in baseball is broken.

December 9, 20223 yr Sox with Jerry as the owner have no shot in this environment. Mets also just signed Robertson.
December 9, 20223 yr The AAV seems pretty fair but I don't think a lot of people saw a 30 year old Nimmo getting 8 years given his injury history.

Teams at the bottom who refuse to spend are a much bigger issue for competitive balance than what the Mets are doing.

The extra year doesn’t matter. It’s a way to keep the tax total slightly lower, if it helps you to think of this as $150/6 or even $150/5 that’s fine, anything after that is a bonus. The goal is to put a successful championship team on the field in the next 2-3 years. If they do, this more than pays for itself, and you’re already paying Scherzer and Verlander for those years and on them this is a rounding error/ The White Sox should have been in a position making moves like this one.

Sure, but at the end of the day it’s MLB’s CBA that allows poor teams to cake in revenue sharing money and for rich clubs to spend without limits. It’s beyond broken and I say that as fan of a franchise not horribly impacted by that.
December 9, 20223 yr Ok, I understand my team is cheap but this right here is drunk spending. No way this guy should have got anything North of $120 million. WTF
December 9, 20223 yr Yeah I woulda bitched a little if he signed somewhere for 120 or under…but no way we could/should have competed with this kind of offer.
December 9, 20223 yr $18 million for Grandal is a lot more palatable after all the drunk spending happening.
