Deivi Garcia? Edit: Yes, Deivi Garcia. (Claimed by White Sox)

Patino and Garcia should be in the pen at least next year.

Maybe one can at least open the year in the rotation as a placeholder for one of the guys in the minors before moving to the pen.

Seems like they are doing more of these types of deals in the dawn of the 3rd Hahn rebuild than they did in the 2nd.  Should at least get some relievers out of it.

If the Rays put a claim on him then this kid must have something.

They're certainly more familiar with him as a divisional opponent 19 games per year...until now.

Well, the payroll is much more likely to be in the $140/150 range and Moncada is taking up $29 million (including buyout) of that.

Not much room to maneuver considering they have to replace nearly the entire pen, catcher's spot, 2B, RF and 2-3 starting pitchers.

You know its a rebuilding when you start taking everyone's former prospect. Who was that first baseman from the Astros that everybody on the board got excited about but then sucked for us just like he did for the Astros?

I know everybody says the rotation is a need but I think the Sox will go into next year with Scholtens and Touki which just leaves one spot on paper. That leaves some huge questions marks but it really depends on how those guys throw the rest of the year.

SP Cease

SP Scholtens

SP Kopech

SP Touki

SP ?/ Clevinger?

Right Fielder: I would presume would be Colas

2nd Base: Who cares the Sox clearly never have

Catcher: Some combination of the young guys.

And Boom!

So lets do what we do best and get a recovering pitcher for the 5th starter and spend the rest of the remaining money on the bullpen.

More than likely someone like Patino or Deivi Garcia because they at least have a track record.

You're probably not going to hear Scholtens mentioned often in their off season hype because he's the least exciting of all.

Then they'll throw Martin's name out there in the recovery window just to make it seem there's more depth there than reality indicates.  And Honeywell because of his former top prospect status with Tampa.

Always selling hope in whatever form they can package it in.

Am I nuts or do the Sox still need to get rid of someone? I count 41 on the 40-Man roster even with the Liam transfer.

The next couple of years will be the equivalent of buying Amazon return pallets. You get all excited thinking it was a bargain then find the hidden damage and missing parts.

This has been more or less the story during three full "multiple championship contention window" seasons.

  • C Grandal had a good hitting season, defense either poor or defensive catchers couldn't hit.
  • 2B Madrigal, Cesar, Big Energy, Tiny Elvis
  • RF Eaton, Scrubs, Sheets, Colas
  • SP Quality until the playoffs in 2021, drop off in 2022, down to Cease and scrubs this season with Lucas traded.

Actually worse, you forgot Leury who played at all of those positions and more. (Ok, pitched in relief, but it's close.) Ah misty water colored memories ? ?

Rays probably would've made him an effective pitcher. White Sox? Eh...

Not totally sure, there were no real 1b picked up by the white Sox during the last rebuild because of Abreu being here and I’m not seeing former astros in their lineup.

Any chance you’re thinking of 3b like Dallas McPherson or Matt Davidson and mixing it up with JD Martinez, who was a former Astro but went to Detroit?

and this is weird to me but probably related to why the last rebuild failed - I feel like we’ve picked up more guys like this in the last month than in the entire previous 3 year long rebuild.

You know it took me a second but it was AJ Reed. Remember that guy.

Yeah, I think the Mariners had a 1B (White something?) that had a long-term extension very quickly around that same time period as Singleton was getting his extension from HOU.

I love that KW is gambling on a bunch of former top pitching prospects:

  • Honeywell (#14 overall per BA in 2018)
  • Patino (#18 overall per BA in 2020)
  • Toussaint (#53 overall per BA in 2019)
  • Garcia (#55 overall per BA in 2021)

If even one of these guys reaches a fraction of their ceiling, it’s a huge win for us.  Giving guys like this an opportunity is exactly what we should be doing in a lost season…Pedro be damned.

"now anybody could have him".

I hope he grabs the opportunity. Here's the real issue for him. Would you trust the Sox coaches regarding anything? Pitch selection? Technique? Training? He's really screwed here.
