Doyle hasn't even been a complete disaster...he's rounding into at least a useful player with around a .650 ops, great defense arm speed and XB power.

Or basically, everything Acuna was supposed to have been...

It's that Castillo move that really sticks in the craw.

Worst of all, to be stuck with him again on the team next year seems almost cruel fate at this point...you just know they'll put him in the rotation again in an attempt to extract some value, and it will just about kill their April/May record.

The dude has 26 strikeouts and 0 walks in 74 plate appearances with the Sox, while they have been primarily starting him against lefties. He’s an absolutely putrid hitter.

Mune makes him look like Arraez

Jimmy, do you think they’re developing them to be 2-3 inning relievers as some sort of market inefficiency?

650 ops hitters with his abundant physical tools are at least useful role/platoon players...it's not like he is still down in the 500s as a member of the Sox.

Braden has been even more of a net negative despite the nice throw yesterday.

Also, the "starting" value of Schultz H.Smith McDougal Oppor and Grant Taylor has taken a massive hit this year. Hard to comprehend.

Looking back at Sox teams post-2005 this collapse is nothing new when the Sox had a first place lead in mid-Sept:

2020: Sept 19: in 1st by 3.0 games w/ 8 games remaining. Season end: 1 game back, 3rd place, made playoffs as wild card.

2012: Sept 18: in 1st by 3.0 games. Season end: 3 games back and out of the playoffs

2008: Sept 21: in 1st by 2.5 games. Then lost 5 in a row before winning games 161, 162, and 163 to salvage the season

The only exception is the 2021 season when they held a huge division lead through the entire 2nd half. But even there, they played .600 ball in the first half and then were a .500 team in the second half - so that was more about them being in a weak division.

Getz is just the latest in a succession of incompetent front office staff. As I said earlier, I don't see this changing under the current ownership. If they actually fired Getz, who is confident that his replacement wouldn't be even worse?

The guy literally had one of the worst trade deadlines of all time.

Kenny Williams' 2005 deadline was picking up a utility infielder whose OPS+ was 33 in his 99 regular season at-bats.

Literally.

Worst of all time.

LOL.

Not sure how this relates at all but okay.

The guy you called a project is now in the bullpen. It was a failed trade. Not sure why you can’t admit it.

Post of the year.

Which part did you like best? The part that said that it's "faulty thinking" to be able to emotionally bear missing the playoffs, or that Getz shouldn't have gone all in, just make a slightly, incrementally better trade that would have been insanely successful beyond our wildest dreams??

like, how are people demanding we not "accept this collapse as tolerable" even find themselves able to post? They should be in the middle of the street screaming themselves hoarse until the neighbors have them forcibly committed, like they demand happens to us who understand the relative unimportance of sports in our lives.

Again, Occams razor is clear. Getz knew that team was playing over its head and wasn't as good as its record, so that's why he looked at players for next year. It's regression to the mean, not a collapse. They were never THAT good, but benefited from a bad AL and some luck early. The Castillo trade is an obvious disaster, but seeing this team regress makes it obvious why spending too much at the deadline was always a bad idea. They were always more than a couple of players away.

I don’t blame Getz for Brazoban. That is a case where the pitcher has just underperformed. The Castillo trade is one I will never understand. Crippling for 2026 and 2027.

I liked the Brazoban move and won’t criticize with the benefit of hindsight. I also liked the Bart move after the better catching options were deemed too expensive or unavailable. But there was no excuse to ignore our SP needs (I stand by us needing two SPs) and there were numerous options superior to Castillo. Trading for an old, broken, expensive SP with a +5.00 ERA who got to benefit from one of the pitcher friendly home stadiums in baseball will never make sense to me. The odds of him coming over to the Sox, figuring his s%*# out, and making a positive impact down the stretch was slim and we gave up a legit prospect and took on $12M next season (if you view Dominguez as being valueless) for that privilege. If I did something so stupid at work, I’d be fired in a heartbeat.

There is no doubt Chris has done a lot of good, but he clearly panicked at the trade deadline. He didn’t want to give up his high end prospects, but clearly got nervous about “asking prices” and settled on Castillo. Had he been more patient, he would have quickly found out that starting points in negotiations are always inflated and better deals would become available as sellers become as desperate as buyers to get a deal done. Throw in the Doyle trade and you have a GM not understanding the urgency of trade deadline moves. We could have Mason Adams right now and one of Hays or Pereira and would be better. And if you hated the idea of Everson being you backup CF and needed someone like Doyle, then why the f*** is Acuna on this roster still at least? Again, just a lot of questionable moves these two months and ones that are extremely hard to ignore right now as we watch a golden opportunity wither away.

Disagree. The Castillo is one of the worst trades I have ever seen on paper in my 42 years on this planet. Made no sense at the time and it might cost us a playoff spot. Doing nothing would have been better than adding him. I have been a staunch Getz defender all season, but last night was my breaking point. Watching a team in desperate need of SP wither & die after an early 8-2 lead while Castillo was nowhere to be found was the nail in the coffin. There is no question he failed this team at the deadline and has weakened them going into 2027. I’m glad he held onto Bonemer and didn’t go “all in”, but I can’t otherwise comprehend his set of moves. Thinking you can fix broken players mid season while in the middle of a playoff push reeks of arrogance or stupidity. Just too hard for me to ignore how mind boggling the Castillo & Doyle moves were.

They have Doyle hitting .250 since his arrival while playing elite CF defense. Sometimes knowing what you can do and then executing does look like arrogance.

It relates because you called it "literally" (which means actually true, not metaphoric, or using hyperbole) one of the worst trade deadlines of all time. Doyle has improved with the Sox, and depending on what's up with Tristan Peters, that move looks fairly prescient. Getz saw a lack of depth and brought in one of the best defensive CFers in the game. You need to move that one over the the win column.

They gave up a starting pitcher option for a guy that has barely had an impact. Arrogance? 🤣

He sure looks like he's had an impact over the last week. I get that you need to portray everything as "worst ever", but the Doyle trade wasn't quite the catastrophe it's been laid out as.

You’re claiming victory over a .630 OPS.

Victory? They made a trade, and it looks like whatever changes they've made are working.

You just said this regarding the Doyle trade — “Sometimes knowing what you can do and then executing does look like arrogance.”

Doyle’s at a .757 OPS over the last month, .850 over the last two weeks.

How about he "executes" Castillo right off the potential playoff roster?

When you have to trust a rookie pitcher with a 5.88 era to cover high leverage over Luis...well, that's certainly something.

Interesting that some of Getz's biggest defenders weren't around last night but suddenly appear today.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Getz has done some good things, this past trade deadline wasn't one of them.

But OK, in a few weeks the season will be over and we can judge him by what JR allows him to do this off season assuming teams are allowed to do anything given the labor situation.

He's been good and nice to have him in CF with Peters day to day

And a .632 OPS in a Sox uniform. .594 OPS on the season.
