How Long Until Getz Gets Real?

Featured Replies

So it seems that Getz keeps asking for more than what our guys are reasonably worth. How long until he gets into the same groove as everyone before him? Ask for what they are worth, settle for less than what they are worth, and move on?

Other teams can get away with it and sometimes come out clear winners in trades, but that's not us. We lose trades. That's our DNA. So stop the nonsense and do the job we expect from you.

  • I think you’re underestimating Getz’s ability to start off with an already low asking price and still end up with a return even less than that.

The asking for high returns is similar to what we got last winter about Cease. Other GMs won't offer anything near what Getz is supposedly asking, and when Getz gets deperate he will accept a lower return because Crochet and probably Robert will be gone before Spring Training or at the latest by opening day.

Exactly. So instead of getting desperate, just start with a lower asking price, take less and move on. Better than getting desperate after starting too high.

That's what we've always done and it resulted in a world series win and multiple playoff appearances this decade.

The high asking price is to try and fool us into thinking he is a hard negotiator, but all the the other GMs know he will fold.

All the talk is what a big return Cease or Fedde will require and then we end up with a mediocre to bad return.  So Getz does shoot for the stars and talks a big game but then does end up accepting a lower offer.

There it is.

Crochet and Robert are both relatively cheap.  There is no reason to trade them unless blown away.  Seems obvious to me.

If that were true then it wouldn’t have taken until March for Cease to move last year.

Exactly. A lower offer than if he started lower. Start lower and he will finish higher.

I really don't think Chris Getz (and by extension, JR) give a s%*# about what we think.

"How Long Until Chris Getz Real?" A truly missed opportunity.

Bullplop. Have you seen the army of people pushing positive leaks?

I’m not following.

All I’m saying is it’s kind of wild to assume that starting off with an already low asking price will result in a quicker resolution and/or higher return. I think the standard process would still play out.

Getz has yet to show enough in trades that would lead me to believe this strategy would work out in his favor.

What am I missing here?

It's more about finding the sweet spot that generates interest. If the convo starts off "I want your top 4 hitters for Robert", they might decide to spend their time talking to another team about a lesser, more reliable CF.

If an extended negotiation for Crochet is centering around Crawford and Bohm, I can't imagine Getz is starting talks for Robert much above that.

Why do they want Bohm to rent for just two years again?  Just to turn around and try to flip him?

They (Phillies) could look to shake things up this offseason by trading Alec Bohm. Bohm is "on the trade block," according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, and could be dealt to add a superstar (yeah, sure!). USA Today's Bob Nightengale noted that if the Phillies trade him, they could sign Astros star Alex Bregman to replace him.

I haven't seen anything that indicates the White Sox "want" Bohm. It sounds like he was pitched to the White Sox, and Getz balked.

The "leaks" that a lot of teams would like to have Garrett Crochet?

The ones that staff members from other teams are lining up to work with Chris Getz would count.

Or here's what we're prepared to offer . . .

We have a dolt as GM who is in way over his head and doesn’t have a clue with the team more than likely on the way to another 100+ loss season. I’ve been a fan since 1952 but have just about had enough and if I don’t see any kind movement this off season to improve the team, sad to say I’m done.

I'm very confused why people are so upset that the GM has a higher asking price than what he will get on November 26th. You'd be losing your mind if he accepted some offer you deem bad right now.
