It sounds like they're gonna get a pitcher with the first pick.  I would think like last year they would try to grab a lefty.  Ryan Webb or Bryan Magdaleno would work.  If they take a player in the 2nd round I would think they would go for a speed bench guy.  Cooper Bowman would be a great get if he were still available.  Dasan Brown would be an interesting pick too.

Of those two, Magdaleno makes more sense to me. 8th guy in the 'pen as a lefty. Probably has as good/better stuff than Ellard. I feel like Webb is just a guy. Would be a replacement if you trade Shuster, but is he really better than the 2nd/3rd tier lefties in the system like Bush, Eder, Schweitzer, Gordon, and Murphy? I didn't like the Drohan pick last year and I would not be thrilled with Webb, but I like upside.

It's the rule 5 draft.  These guys are the best of the bunch.  Unfortunately there are no Tarik Skubal or Zack Wheelers available.

Fully agree.  Magdaleno is the guy I would target.  I’m not a big Shuster fan, but replacing him with another low stuff lefty who is probably a small upgrade over him doesn’t really do it for me.  Magdaleno can be an important part of this bullpen for a long time if he works out and not just a placeholder type that you always are looking to upgrade from.

I’d still take Seymour at 2.01 if he makes it there, unless Getz has a better for DH like Ben Rice.

They should be able to get a couple of picks that would make the 26.  It's not like they have a ton of talent or depth

I get that, but the way the rules are, it's much easier for a team to take a pitcher. These guys all need some development or they wouldn't be available. A hitter basically loses a full season of develpment. A pitcher, not so much. And you can use them in garbage time, which there will be plenty in 2025.

You can probably grab the best arm option and a bat with your second pick. Not all teams take players and it seems like hitters less so.

I  know it's a lot easier to keep a underdeveloped pitcher on the roster than hitter.  But looking at that preview list, Ryan Ward of the Dodgers has raked at all levels, and has spent 2 seasons in AAA.  He shouldn't need development - at this point he can either play or he's a AAAA hitter.  You can always send him back if he can't play. It's high risk, but also high reward.

Or the guy from the Cubs - now he does need development but his D is elite so he can at least be used as a late inning OF.  
There will be an interesting pitcher available in round 2.  And the Sox already have a lot of interesting pitchers who they can throw into the pen and who  are as ready as they ever will be for MLB.

On Edit I see they are picking Shane Smith.  i hope he brings the Saints with him for some good jamming.

Don't know how updated this is but this shows how many guys are on each team's 40-man roster. 6 teams have full 40-mans and obviously a good chunk that has space available won't take someone. Sox should absolutely add two guys.

They're low on talent so nothing really.

mlbtraderumors says that despite the Rule 5 Draft starting at 1pm Central time, the White Sox pick has already been reported by Jonathan Mayo as RHP Shane Smith from the Brewers.  Not sure how that works if the draft hasn't started yet, but that what mlbtraderumors says.

  A hitter is rule 5 eligible for a reason.  He needs more development time.  If you put him on a major league roster it's too difficult to thread the needle of getting him the AB's he needs to continue his development and protecting him from getting his s%*# pushed in.  It's much easier with a pitcher because over the course of a season there are plenty of low leverage situations for him to get his work in.  If they do take a hitter I think it will be a Cooper Bowman type whose development is pretty much over and maxes out as a utility type guy.
