Not good enough but not historically awful either. The Cubs had the ninth highest opening day payroll in the MLB last year and just acquired a “big guy”. Now they get to see if they can re-sign him. But have the Sox ever even acquired their version of Kyle Tucker? I’m not defending them, as I am not a Cubs fan, but the truth is that the Cubs are in a far better place than the Sox are. I personally think he will be a poor man’s Jose Ramirez if he can fatten up a bit and add some power.

Would also free them up to use Nico as a trade piece.

December 18, 20241 yr Cubs fans should be pissed that with all of the financial advantages they have over all of the small market teams in their division they are choosing to be cheap af. Keep Bellinger AND pay for pitching. The Cubs are an ATM that prints money. I wouldn't have thought the Ricketts would be so cheap, but here we are.
December 18, 20241 yr He kinda sucks at hitting and doesn't really fit anywhere except center field. A good team probably wants a better-hitting first baseman and they have PCA to play center. Perfect fit on the Yankees, I love this for them, they look to be a better team despite losing Soto. Think the Cubs definitely could've gotten more than a reliever/salary dump though. I'd be more upset about not retaining a lot more of his salary (they gave Yankees $5m) to get back an actually good player. Maybe they spend it on a player. Unlikely.
