Should, yes.

But that's far too rich for their blood.

Why should the Sox guarantee $22M to a utility infielder? If they're going to do that, bring back Leury.

  • Solid move, was gonna be tough to block all the infield prospects without an addition of some kind.

No player worth anything wants to sign with this organization when it’s been in such disarray over the past few seasons. The Sox can only sign players who don’t have a lot of options to play elsewhere

It’s absolutely wild.  The only spot we have multiple prospects at is 2B & 3B and we just blocked them all.  No fucking clue what we are doing here.

I believe we both thought it was Ha-Seong and he is certainly not a utility infielder.

I don’t want a dumpster dive SS either, I want Kim. He’s 29 years old. Don’t see why they couldn’t afford a 4 or 5 year contract for him at the projected AAV I’ve seen thrown out for him.

edit: just saw he signed for 3, $22M. That’s a joke, Sox should have easily beat that..

Why?  The Sox probably won't be even at .500 in 3 years.

3 years, $12.5M actually.

The sticking point is that shoulder after surgery...he still might miss the first 2-3 months of the 2025 season.

He's a $100-150 million player without that hanging over negotiations.

Maybe he would want a one year deal or multi-year deal with an opt out after year 1.

So that means they shouldn’t sign any good players over the next 3 years?

I know we have plenty of catching prospects but I’d still claim the catcher the Dodgers just DFA to add Kim.

23 year old Diego Cartaya, the Dodgers 16th ranked prospect.

If you are living in a trailer park are you buying a Ferrari to park in your car port?

Who is going to be DFAd for this guy? I’m guessing a pitcher.

We are hot garbage for the next 3 years, at a minimum.  Getz will have pulled a Getz if they cannot develop a utility guy over that time with what is already in house or drafted in the future.

Murfee, Scholtens, or Colas IMO.

So Kim is Juan Soto? Wtf are you talking about?

Looks like he has struggled on offense recently. How’s his defense?

How is Kim a “utility guy” when he’s averaged 3.5 WAR over the past three seasons? I guess Luis Robert is a 4th outfielder then.

The Sox literally don't have anywhere for Cartaya to play.

I think he means the other Kim the Dodgers just signed.

Yeah, I thought we were talking Hyeseong and not Ha-Seong.

I am talking about window dressing on literally the worst team in the history of baseball.   WTF are you talking about?  Why would you waste millions on a mid term deal for a player that has no hope of playing on a winning team?  It's like getting expensive rims for for 84 Cutlass sitting up on blocks in the backyard.

Waste millions? We’re talking about a player that has been nearly as productive as Luis Robert over his mlb career with projections for a 5 year/$60M contract, cheaper AAV than both Benintendi and Robert. If the goal is to literally only field players making $2M or less, then they need to dump Robert and Vaughn asap and also eat whatever salary they need to move Benintendi.

For what, exactly?  To win 51 games this year?  And trust me they are trying to move Robert and Benny.

Why sign anyone if that’s the mentality? I mean, really? Why not just throw all the scrubs like Vargas, Deloach, and Amaya out there everyday if nothing matters anyways?

Don't threaten me with exactly what a 41 win team should be doing.

Says the guy that was devastated by breaking the loss record and continues to bring it up. Sounds like you want them to break it again!

Top 15 prospect not long ago. Only 2 catchers on the 40 man so there's room there, but not really when it comes to org depth. I guess you can shove him all the way down in AA. Theel and Quero shouldn't be down there and would be ahead of this guy. But yeah not sure how much sense it makes for a 23 year old on the 40 in AA above 2 guys who will be pushing for that spot very soon.

I see both sides of the argument.  Keep payroll low during the rebuild and then spend like crazy when the team is good again.  However, it doesn’t seem like Jerry is truly willing to “go all out” after saving millions during a rebuild phase.  So I could understand @JUSTgottaBELIEVE’s stance of why not spend money?  It’s Jerry’s money so who cares and he likely won’t ever go all out when the team is good again.  Maybe a decent signing could help the team and/or be traded for an asset later.
