  • Crochet’s a bad example. The league adjusted to his slider after like 5 starts last year and he started to get hit. He then worked with both Katz and Bannister to change his arsenal, including adding

Speaking of pitch data, Bannister is teasing what him and Katz have been cooking in the lab:

Does Carela accrue service time?  He was never on the 26 man roster, so a bit different from Bush and Berroa.

Last year would not matter once you are added to the 40-man. However, the note earlier did say he was optioned today so maybe it's minor league IL (which I guess probably wouldn't up a spot on the 40-man).

Well there’s two 40 man spots that just opened up.

Looking into it, Carela was optioned today, so I would assume he wouldn't be on the MLB 60-day IL. I don't think that would open up a 40-man spot.

Not for Carela. They just optioned him to AA. He won't open up a spot.; have to be on MLB IL.

Doesn't matter the actual velocity. It's if you are throwing at your max too often.

One person throwing 97 maybe be throwing with less effort than someone else throwing 95.

I don't believe so. He was added to the 40 man last November but has never been on the active roster. They'll burn an option but no MLB service time.

And if they run up against it on IL time, they can also get an extra option, I believe.

DVS Sox notebook, key takeaways:

- Thorpe looks to be throwing 3 innings by end of ST
- Drury challenging for a spot
- Taylor's an exciting pitcher
- Meidroth sidelined a couple days

Quote

The Sox were able to sign Drury, 32, on a minor league contract ($2 million) with an invite to spring training after he slumped miserably to .169/.242/.228 in 97 games with the Angels last season. He was batting .348/.375/.696 with a home run five doubles, which ranks second in the Cactus League, and took a five-game hitting streak into Sunday’s game against the Guardians.

The Sox need offense, but being in rebuild mode, it’s possible he could fetch a younger player in a trade when rosters are re-evaluated as Opening Day approaches.

He owes us a win from that HR robbery.

Decent in 2023, rather mediocre last season. He can cover all 3 OF spots, but spends most of his time in LF. I guess he's a solid depth signing, but not sure he offers much as a flip candidate either.

He fits right in then.

Are we talking about Jankowski?

Another version of Pillar.  At least he provides defensive vetsatility and insurance if Taylor totally bottoms out.
