Putting another 50% of costs/development responsibilities on the NCAA side of the equation.

Would result in lots of future stars going other routes like basketball and football with so much more NIL $$$ available in those areas.

It's not like Japan/Korea and Latin America can/could offset thc significant loss of baseball talent this would result in...all in the name of preventing young stars from getting to FA in their mid to late 20s instead of early 30s.

I have no clue. @Y2Jimmy0 was suggesting a 3 way trade could work? I just dont quite understand why the Pirates would want to give up a comp pick though. Those are gold for smaller market teams who rely on developing talent internally.

I don’t think it makes sense to subtract from the MLB team to get a draft pick at this point unless they want to get out of Dominguez’s contract already.

The Pirates are cheap. I don't think they want to spend $20 million on the draft. They didn't even spend their full pool last year. They have two second round picks in addition to the Comp A.

I'm not sure. I know the Sox have actively looked for another pick. Rosenthal reported that Pirates are open to trading theirs. I'm sure other clubs who have a better fit are also interested though.

I'd be ok with this. Would suck big-time if Gonzalez blows up, but we've got so much depth at 2B. There's also Camiletti who deserves a shot soon IMO. We can call him up if we need more depth.

The Pirates spent $330 million on Griffin Reynolds and Keller alone.

Would rather the Sox figured out ways to extend Vargas/Mune than spend it on anything else.

That said, the great organizations can and do both equally well, like the Brewers with their extensions for three young players, including Chourio.

Camiletti has approximately the same odds of making it as a long term big league regular as Junior Perez.

What are you even talking about? The Sox acquiring another draft pick and more bonus pool has no implications on extending Vargas or Mune.

He’s probably the guy you would dangle in that kind of a deal since he doesn’t really have a spot long term and you can draft someone who might fit the roster better later on. Plus the fact his prospect status was basically dead in the water and then turning him into something after the AAA year he’s had would be awesome.

This is an exciting possibility. We need to beef up the next wave of prospects. It’s a little barren looking right now.

Statistically, what’s more likely to have a profound impact?

Letting Mune and Vargas go, or second and third round draft picks?

The idea the Pirates are suddenly being cheap with their draft budget is pretty laughable when they’ve doled out hundreds of millions in extensions.

That’s just an old and tired trope about the Pirates and that until relatively recently highly-criticized ownership group.

Signing pools are pretty much locked in for every team…+/-5%.

except they already know how much all three players are going to ask for…and Roch/Emerson certainly are clued in about each other’s numbers as well due to having the same representation

Totally. With all of the graduations and not many development wins this season the farm isn't looking so hot. I think Bonemer is your only top 100 guy at this point? Maybe Carlson is in the back end? Hagen stinking it up, Bergolla being indefinitely hurt, Oppor forgetting how to throw a baseball ain't great. I like Fauske and Gabe Davis, but they aren't there just yet.

They really need to nail some talent in this draft. I'd like a high end prep bat and they desperately need to hit on some pitching. Though I'm far more inclined to trust in hitter development at this point.

I would not trade Gonzalez for the 34th pick in the draft. At that point, you’re lucky if the pick ends up as good as Jacob.
