Coach talk I’m sure, but GT coach said he’d be their best SS as well

The Oregon State coach extolling the greatness of Madrigal was the last one I believed.

Roch tanking to go to SF lol?

I don't even think prospect fatigue fully covers it. I think some people (within Sox fandom specifically) are trying to talk themselves into it being a tougher choice so that they can reserve the righ

I never thought Colson was a bad shortstop. I always thought he could stay there. People who thought otherwise didn't watch. Bonemer might legit be 1B or LF though.

Seriously - I would draft him as a Centerfielder.

If the Sox drafted Lackey, I'd be shocked if they moved him. He's an awesome catcher. Moving him doesn't many any sense and I think the team agrees.

Roch season might be ending. I would have never thought anyone would be drafted ahead of him this season, but it might happen.

If you didn’t know the hype, you’d never think he looks like a super high pick.

Just give me Grady Emerson please and thanks.

Lackey destroyed another

What a heater this guy is on.

The Sox have to be very much considering Lackey at this point. He fits the mold entirely. Up the middle player, performing against better competition, freaky athleticism, improvement year over year, tooled up, makeup sounds off the charts, positional flexibility. And the fact that you might be able to get him at a discount over Roch and Grady?

Slam dunk to me.

I mean come on - that’s not true.

Wow. Anybody have an updated comparison of Lackey’s 2026 and Roch’s 2025?

How’s his plate discipline?

Look at the fun you could have if you take Lackey. Save 1.7 million off the top. Splurge on two high ceiling prep bats in Thome and Wilson. Grab two high ceiling prep arms in Nawrocki and Herst. Pop Koenig in the 6th round, college reliever with a big up arrow in stuff but needs to do some tinkering, then let him start not unlike Gabe Davis. Picked some funky lefties with good extension in Leguernic and Possehl. Both seem the White Sox type. Dipped into the Juco well with Frutchey, a funky righty with a starter profile who has projection remaining (and toys with a knuckleball!). Then finish out with Nate Gray, another guy whose stuff is up this year, but needs some refinement to go with the live arm.

Load up the farm and get maybe the best player in the draft at a discount? Yes please.

I wish the Sox would trade the pick for a haul.

They trade 1-1 to the Giants for 1-4, a 5th and the Giants 1st round pick next year.

This isn't the NFL. Only comp picks can be traded.

Which is why I said, “I wish”

at this point I would be okay with any of the top3 guys but I prefer Lackey

I am going to be SO FUCKING SAD if they pass up on that young man’s swing and his athleticism.

Anyone here down to pen a letter to the Sox and collect signatures with me. Maybe we can rally and advocate to Chris, Josh, etc via Brooks or some other line that someone may have.

Mercy.

That is a great point to evaluate for us to have a little insight into the mindset of our war room when talking Vahn. We know this front office loves guys who work good at bats and strike out less than they walk.

Good news: Freshman year he was at 11.7% BB / 17.5% K. Sophomore: 9.4% / 14.3% ( small dip ).

This year: 17.5% BB ( Big Jump ) / 13.4% K ( lowest in his career )

Comparing to Roch: He has good numbers but this year his is striking out more than last year while walking less. The numbers are negligible though. Freshman 0.71 BB to K rate, Sophomore 1.5 ( best year of the two for this stat, and this year he is walking at an equal rate to his strikeouts ( less walks, more strikeouts ).

Makes me somewhat concerned about Roch not being able to make adjustments that the league is making to him.

We’re splitting hairs here between two amazing talents but it is just one angle. I like Vahn’s swing much more to translate at the big league level than I do Roch.

Someone hire this guy at the front office and take me along with you. ( Though I bet they sign some seniors to get some more over slot deals than your mock ).

If that was our draft in a nut shell, I think we’d all be stoked.

This is the attitude we will all have to adopt or else we’ll have blood pressure issues for the next few weeks.

One thing if they go with Rich that I’ll take solace in is that I can’t wordsmith any LLM off him as the right 1.1 choice.

Even if I prompt with explicit instruction to heavily weigh junior year over year improvements and provision no allowance for data showing Roch as the number one pick, demanding a strictly analytical analysis — they always stick with Roch. 😆
