caulfield12
Kyle Tucker free agency speculation “If he wants to stay in Chicago, he can always sign there in the winter,” an NL exec said. “Prior to that, I imagine it would take a massive overpay to get him to forgo an opportunity on the open market. Since he’s a couple years older than Vlad and doesn’t have the same tie-in with the Cubs that Vlad has with the Jays -- or with the country, for that matter -- I would be surprised if they would be willing to go far enough during the season to make him bite early.” While some reports have indicated that Tucker and the Cubs have engaged in some talks during the season, the majority of executives around the league believe he’s ultimately headed for free agency. Two execs believe the Cubs can get something done if they're willing to pay him, though it’s obviously going to take a massive contract to close the deal. https://www.mlb.com/news/kyle-tucker-cubs-extension-mlb-executives-weigh-in “If the Cubs don’t extend him, that may go down as an all-time terrible trade,” an NL executive said. caulfield12
With the worst record in Major League Baseball, the Colorado Rockies are making a change that they hope can provide a jolt to a lifeless offense. Hitting coach Hensley "Bam Bam" Meulens was fired on Thursday and was replaced by former Rockies manager Clint Hurdle, who had been a special assistant to the general manager. At 3-15, Colorado has the fourth-worst team batting average in the National League (.220) and third-worst team OPS (.629). The Rockies have the second-most strikeouts in MLB at 195, are tied for the second-fewest home runs with 12, and rank last in the majors with 52 runs scored. Meulens was in his third year as Rockies hitting coach, hired before the 2023 season. Last season, the Rockies' .242 team batting average and .704 OPS were the worst in franchise history. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/mlb-worst-rockies-fire-hitting-coach-hensley-meulens-name-former-manager-clint-hurdle-interim-replacement-001506534.html Rockies fire their hitting coach after 3-15 start

caulfield12
ATLANTA -- Ronald Acuna Jr. watched with interest when Jarred Kelenic was thrown out at second base after failing to hustle out of the batter's box on a long drive in the Atlanta Braves' 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night. Acuna went to social media to criticize the way manager Brian Snitker handled the situation. Acuna, recovering from surgery after tearing his left ACL last May, replied to a post on X by MLB.com reporter Mark Bowman on Sunday when Bowman was asked whether Snitker had commented on Kelenic. Bowman posted that Snitker "protected Kelenic by replying: 'Was I supposed to' when asked if he had said anything to Kelenic." Acuna replied to Bowman's post, "If it were me, they would take me out of the game." The response by Acuna was removed about one hour later. espn.com

Cam Smith is really starting to come into his own for the Astros, and Matt Shaw had to be sent to the minors. Would help a lot of teams in baseball to have signed Jose Quintana, that's for sure. Brewers (almost) always make great starting pitching decisions.

Snopek
Using playoff odds in April for why a team is or isn’t a contender is kind of silly. Not to mention it sucks the fun right out of everything. Just use your eyes at this point. The cubs are clearly serious contenders and one of the best teams in baseball right now. It’s not that complicated.

It’s not that complicated. They beat the Dodgers at home...in a game of huge swings back and forth. Dustin May was terrible. Kyle Tucker has been on fire...along with half their offense, but starting pitching almost always wins in the post season. Heck they have six total hitters over 121 ops+. Not sustainable. Along with that, Matthew Boyd is their number two starter right now, with Pressly and Merryweather pitching out of their minds. Color me a bit skeptical for now.
