Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox

Since they set the new record for losses in a season, it is categorically untrue that they can't set the record again. They literally did it last year.

Again we hope it's not going to happen, it likely won't happen but never say it can't get worse.

Last years team proved it can.

And I think there's a chance they will...under Jerry Reinsdorf

To be honest, the dream is Ishbia coming in, building a beautiful new park at the 78, and having a couple mega free agents to supplement young core.  I love going to the Rate but it’s time for a new,

But what does JR gain in return for being the "bad" guy this go-around?  Vengeance against some owners?  Against the union?  I sure hope he isn't obsessed with that mindset in his last years of life.  If he thought he could do something that would "save the game" or the likes then yeah...but would he really want to go out as the "hatchet man"?

If he can break the union and get a better cost structure, he sees his franchise shares go up by hundreds of millions potentially.

Sure. Don't ever ask that question.

Look at what the brother did in Phoenix. Changed the whole team, has the highest payroll in the league. Team got worse.

I would be impressed if they did worse than the worst season in the 125 year history of MLB.  No offense, but going for it and failing is WAAAAAAAAY better than this pile of radioactive waste we have here.

This. I went to an article someone posted around here and it said there was a 98 year old on the board. Like what the hell is this.

This is America. We love keeping old white men in positions of power.

Based on the entire history of baseball, it is quite literally impossible to get worse than last year.

Quoted again just for clarities sake.  121 losses.  I don't want to hear that it could get worse, because the only team with a chance to do worse than that is the 2025 White Sox.

Anything is possible.

Don't ever say it can't get worse.

So it can get worse.

We're already at the threshold of hell. There may be a non-0% chance that it will be worse but I'm willing to take that chance.

Some say there are 7 layers of hell.

I'm willing to take the chance as well.

Doesn't mean there is absolutely no chance it won't get worse.

Odds are it won't. But never say never.

Worse than the ownership group trying to avoid setting the worst record in the history of the game in back to back seasons?

I will bet on the new ownership group all day, every day.

Agreed because if the current ownership’s effort is what we see for the next decade, I’d rather just not be a fan of baseball

I'll bet on it too.

But it doesn't mean it absolutely can't happen.

I'll also bet on that the payroll that they have this year will be half what it is in 5 years.

I don’t understand why it’s so important for you to stress that right now.

It's weird when your current owner is Jerry Reinsdorf.

It isn't. I just answered someone question and then a bunch of people told me it is impossible to be worse.

I'm just answering question about why I think you can never say it can't get worse.

I've said throughout the discussion that odds are it won't but everyone tells me it can't.

A meteor could blow through your head as soon as you walk outside, but I sure don't think you are hiding in the basement because of it.

Hope JR sells soon

You'd be surprised. There are people like that.

It's called catastrophizing. See them a lot in pain clinics I work with.

Bit no i wouldn't doesn't mena it can't. I like to live on the edge.

IMO JR was at least an average owner his first 30 or so years. Had some division winners, a WS, some interesting teams. But the last 10 or 12, he has really been hard to be worse. And if you think about it,  he's been worse with the Bulls. Unlike Sox fans, Bulls fans have acted like Cubs fans and still showed up after they got horrible, which is really something, because before Jordan, the Bulls had to be really good to draw. Yet, despite all the money he made being awful, he wouldn't go over the luxury tax, just a big middle finger to all those paying hundreds to attend Bulls games.

If you're worse than the worst record of all time, you're still the worst of all time. It's impossible to be worse than the worst of all time.

Don't think you're understanding by statement fully.

The only way it can get worse is if Jerry sells to his boob of a son.  Otherwise, the odds are 99.9% the next owner is better than 89 year old Jerry.

Ishbia is not investing all this money to answer to anyone.  I will be surprised if Ishbia isn't calling the shots by opening day.

I'm guessing the family will honor his wishes and sell the Sox and keep the Bulls.

The public pressure and national embarrassment is going to be be brought to bear...they might set the all-time MLB record for spring training futility while they're at it.

You're not going to see a whole lot of tolerance or fan support for a team that's basically being held hostage by an 89 year old man whose best days are behind him and CAN STILL turn the cash-cow Bulls' franchise over to his son/s.

Not to mention there's no way in HELL that Reinsdorf's in a position to get this stadium deal to the finish line without putting in $500 million and maybe $1 billion of his own money to get it done, that's money that only the likes of the Ishbia's and Hobson/Lucas group as secondary investors can possibly take on.

Fwiw, the Pohlads run their Twins' franchise in the exact same way as Reinsdorf and had a sense that now was the best time to get out...and this coming from a franchise with basically 2 owners in 125 years (Griffith's as well).
