Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox

On topic, The Celtics were just sold for $6.1 billion.  Look the bubble for the sports market could burst any time, but it sure hasn't done so yet.

To be honest, the dream is Ishbia coming in, building a beautiful new park at the 78, and having a couple mega free agents to supplement young core.  I love going to the Rate but it’s time for a new,

It will be interesting to see what the twins sell for now that the front runner for the purchase dropped out.

It's always the second highest bidder that sets the price.

I'm still hoping new ownership will take over sooner rather than later. The franchise needs a shot in the arm. If anybody doubts me go look at the advance ticket sale on ticketmaster for the White Sox home opener. It looks like half of the stadium  is not sold out.

Not much to be excited about or entertained by other than milk shakes and opponents.

I know it's getting late but I always thought this deal would close by the end of ST.  Just makes no sense for JR to hang on to his "managing partner" title while doing nothing to improve this club.  He can give up operational control while having little or no tax consequences.

I think it's going to be a around 5 years give or take a couple.

That's the point though he still wants to retain absolute control.

I assumed a year or two...figure it is cordial and involving polite discussions and mutual respect.  Convinced JR offered a plan that led to Ishbias backing away from MSP...and in return the Ishbias are going to let JR set the pace of transition...and a timeline that is most likely already set.  Just a guess though...I don't have much experience in the lives of billionaires!  😁

He's continuing to drive down value of his shares though..if the next wave of prospects struggles or "Getz" injured, he will have no recourse remaining.

Yep. He will until he is ready to leave.

Another 110+ loss season will do it.

All that's left is trading Robert and a #10 draft pick in June won't move the meter.

According to a report from Dan Hayes, Ken Rosenthal and Brittany Ghiroli at The Athletic, the Pohlads are “believed” to have an asking price of at least $1.7 billion. The Athletic writes that the Pohlads viewed a $1.5 billion purchase price that was floated by one potential buyer to be “a non-starter” in discussions.

Last year, Forbes estimated the club’s value around $1.46 billion. Sportico’s 2024 valuation was more in line with the apparent asking price, as that publication valued it at approximately $1.7 billion. The Orioles, the most recent franchise sold, went for a $1.725 billion purchase price in January 2024.

Interestingly, The Athletic writes that Twins executive vice president Joe Pohlad prefers to keep control of the organization. The 42-year-old Pohlad only took over daily operations in November 2022. His grandfather Carl Pohlad purchased the team for $44MM back in 1984. After Carl Pohlad died in 2009, his son Jim (Joe’s uncle) took control. Jim Pohlad turned over operations to his nephew 13 years later. It seems there’s varying levels of interest within the family about selling the team.

I doubt twins  fans are happy to hear that Joe wants to be involved after the sale.

Let’s not forget Jerry’s kids are still buying shares of the club from other investors.

They sure are.  I wonder how many of those shares were involved in the Ishbia purchase.

But wouldn't that just be a shrewd business move, anticipating the sale? Buy up other shares at a depressed value to increase their overall value once the team is sold to Ishbia.

Or better yet, buy low now and hold through the sale, with the expectation that the next owner actually invests in the program to increase their overall value. Sell in 30 years for f-you generational money.

Two more days and it will a full month since the sale deadline, and we still have no idea what happened.  This is exactly why I have zero faith in the local sports media in this town.  They only write what they are told to write, and do zero actual investigative work,

So they were buying shares at an effective franchise price of $1.1 billion recently, and now selling them to the FNG for $1.8?  Quality work if you can get it.

While simultaneously "starving" the major league team to death like it's the equivalent of the US government...just a sad state of affairs for Sox fans who were grasping for basically anything to feel optimistic about.

Ishbia better hurry up and close the deal before JR raises the price.
