Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox

I’m less interested in how the shares work and more excited that not buying the Twins makes it seem what their desired outcome is.

Jerry approached him on this.  There is 100% a bigger deal at play and him backing out of guaranteed control of a different club all but confirms that.

To be honest, the dream is Ishbia coming in, building a beautiful new park at the 78, and having a couple mega free agents to supplement young core.  I love going to the Rate but it’s time for a new,

Clearly the reason there isn't more excitement is there's no reason for us to believe anything good might happen

I would say there is ample excitement, it's just that the details are murky but it seems great overall. Just don't know when they would exactly take control.

Ishbia will likely buy more than over 55% of the team soon to control the team with the Riensdorfs staying with 20-25%of the organization and the other 20-25% going to Elon musk,Mark Cuban or bazos.

Lol do you know what a limited partner is?

I'll reserve some of my excitement until we get reports after next Friday when the deadline passes for the minority stake owners to sell their shares to Ishbia. That will make it more real to me.

This is where I’m at and it’s perfectly reasonable.

I read those articles when I got home last night at 2:30am.  My take is NBB is implying that the Reinsdorf’s won’t be selling their shares right away, but I still believe Ishbia would need control of the org to exit from his Twins pursuits.  I think this will all come out after the Feb 28th deadline for minority owners to sell their shares to Ishbia.  This screams Rubenstein/Angelos type deal.

Yeah I don’t know about this. It doesn’t seem like Jerry is giving up control anytime soon based on everyone I’ve talked to. Ishbia has to have some assurances but I don’t think this moves quickly.

Yeah I feel like he’ll give up control but I kinda doubt it will be that quickly. 3+ years, maybe?

It's the start of the scenario I was told was most likely to happen.  Jerry forces the minority owners to sell to a single individual, that person helps Jerry pay for a new stadium and in return he gets control of the everyday baseball operations when Jerry passes.  Jerry's shares goes to his son John.  Obviously there's a million moving parts here and it's way more complicated but it's good to see things are finally moving.

I think when MLB goes into this next lockout in a couple seasons will help JR step aside. Either way this is good news. New ownership potentially right around the corner

This is the part that bothers/scares me. It could be another 15 years.

Ishbia will be the second richest owner in the entire MLB and is a Chicago resident.  We have hit the motherfucking jackpot and somehow this thread is only at three pages.  I’m literally celebrating this news all weekend.  This is the day we have been waiting for for decades and it’s finally fucking here.  Honestly, I can’t think of a better fucking owner on paper than Ishbia.  I don’t know how everyone isn’t doing cartwheels right now.  This is absolutely incredible.

I mean I’m hyped too, but is this a guarantee to happen? I still don’t know what to make of all this.

That scenario doesn’t make any sense.  Jerry doesn’t have that much leverage here.  Ishbia could buy complete ownership of the Twins right now or could go through hoops, potentially wait for years, and then have to build Jerry a new stadium in order to get control of the Sox?  It just doesn’t make any sense from a business perspective for Ishbia.

Ishbia is passing on the Twins to up his stake in the Sox based on conversations with Jerry.  There is some sort of plan in place which will become much clearer once he buys out the minority shareholders next week.

It’s just weird that this news was dropped in passing on a random Friday night. I feel like this should be a much bigger deal than it is and that the reactions would be way more positive if it really is happening. Perhaps the apathy of this fanbase right now plays a role in that.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Agreed. It's a long play.

It's not big news because nothing significant in the operation of the team will happen soon.

As other people in this thread have stated, what’s in it for Ishbia then? Why would he pass up on the Twins opportunity that would presumably allow him to take over quickly in favor of this where he could have to wait for years until Jerry dies? It just doesn’t make sense.

He’s from Chicago and maybe would rather hold out to take over a team where he’s from.

A good owner can flip this valuation and really increase value if they manage Sox right. I believe they are a sleeping Giant - super undervalued relative to potential given size of Chicago market and extensive history.

Just like JR did.

I read he’s from Michigan but is based in Chicago so you might be onto something. He’s also not that old. But still, if I were him I would prefer to have this process done ASAP as opposed to being in a holding pattern for an indefinite period of time.

All of the shareholders are getting older and have different issues with estate planning. JR could simply be helping one of the shareholders in their transition by controlling who buys in.

I agree with that but my point was that the valuation is on the decline with the way Jerry is operating it and if he continues down this path a $1.5B sale price is possible in a few years.

The minority/non-control/non-voting sale price just doubled in a couple of years.  It is right there in the story.

💯 Always expect the worst as a Sox fan.
