Angels score five runs total in three games...and win two of them.

This offense is simply miserable, just really awful.

Going to be a long season, although we already knew that was coming.

Technically the bullpen hasn't already blown two games because the games were tied when they got on the mound but giving up game winning runs both times in the 8th inning isn't encouraging is it?

The 8th inning has been a nightmare for like 5 years now.

Booser keeps pitching like he has this weekend and he's going to start hearing boos awful fast.

Maybe he needs to go back to skilled carpentry? 😆

So glad we have a new start with Will Venable as the manager and things are going to be different.

So let's look at today's game.

The Angels score two runs thanks to bad defense.

The Sox score early and don't score again the rest of the game.

They run themselves out of a potential inning.

Bullpen (can't blame them too much really) loses the game.

And what happens over and over and over: the Sox have runners in scoring position in the 7th and 9th and then proceed to have four terrible at bats. Terrible situational hitting with the game on the line again and again and again.

Yep, things look new and different to me this year with Venable.

Situational awareness by Vargas not good

But...but...but "fundamentals" were being talked about and focused on in spring training according to the manager right?

I'm sorry nothing is really changing on that end...for years Sox mangers and coaches couldn't teach it effectively and the "baseball-stupid" players don't seem to want to learn it.

Again today they lose the game in part because of an easy play that was booted in the 1st inning and terrible situational hitting.

Little things add up.

Yup, we’re in year two of a rebuild so we should just dump an actual prospect in Baldwin after three games and go sign the UT version of Jankowksi

well the alternatives are Ramos (move Vargas) and Sosa.

I get your sarcasm but yeah, nothing has really changed.  This lineup is as bad as it was last year, probably worse.

Sure I guess you can switch him for Meidroth but just cosmetic changes to the narrative until Teel and Quero are recalled.

As pathetic as it is, we need Tauchman back ASAP.  He’s unfortunately one of our only proven bats against RHP and his addition helps us get Jankowski off this roster altogether.

Yeah dude and most likely it will be weeded out. Give the dude a break. You know better.

Baldwin hardly a prospect worth playing regardless of year, nothing but a place holder .

Sosa is already on the roster.  And if you aren’t happy with Brooks’ production so far, I can assure you won’t be happy with Ramos right now.  Beyond not being able to throw at the moment, he showed he was much further away than Baldwin last year with the bat. Bryan needs at least half a season in AAA to regain his form before we should even consider calling him up.  And I say this as a huge Ramos fan.  Unfortunately, young players are going to look bad in small samples and we have endure those struggles if we want to come out on the other side of this rebuild with a competitive core.

He definitely was rushed last year...time in the minors with regular at bats might end up being the solution, but these are all knee jerk reactions to one series.

This team was only designed with not losing 121 games again in mind.

It will be pretty close.

Guy who can play pretty much any position and put up a 150 wRC+ last year in the minors is “hardly a prospect worth playing”…dear god make it make sense

Given the roster construction the odds of it being 'weeded out" are pretty small in my opinion.

The only two seasons that are of 'recent' vintage' where the Sox were very good at fundamentals were 2005 and 2012.

Other than that they have been brutal. Again there's plenty of blame to go around from the manager and coaches who can't teach it or demand players perform it or else there will be consequences to the players themselves who are rushed to the majors with little idea of the details regarding their craft or who could care less about things like throwing to the correct base, not missing the cut off man, run down's, advancing runners into scoring position or getting runners home with less than two out.

You know, just the things that cost them two winnable games already...no big deal I guess when you are going to lose 100+ games but it would be nice for Venable to establish that he's not going to take this for very long and guys will suffer consequences.

We'll see what happens.

Baldwin can be on the roster, but he shouldn't be playing over Sosa. "He's not good in a small sample size" is kind of beside the point, you can make the same arguments for any of his alternatives. You said the alternative was some old guy.

It’s going to need Meidroth, Teel, & Quero eventually too.  They will go through their struggles, but should bring a better quality at-bat from day one than some of the retreads currently on this roster.

The poster said we should send him down to AAA after three games.  Sosa is not the guy replacing him on the 26 man roster.  He may get more at-bats as a result but he should be getting those at the expense of Maton (and Amaya) and not Baldwin.  Both guys are going to be needed if we want any semblance of a competent offense.
